Android : View "data" Directory On G1?

Feb 12, 2009

How does one view the "/data" directory on the G1?

I've tried multiple different ways. Using adb from the command prompt gives a permission denied message.

Is there any way to get around this denial of access?

Android :: Create Files Hierarchy '/data/data/pkg/files' Directory

Dec 11, 2009

I try to create 'foo/bar.txt' in Android's /data/data/pkg/files directory.

It seems to be a contradiction in docs:

To write to a file, call Context.openFileOutput() with the name and path.

http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#files

The name of the file to open; can not contain path separators.

[url]

And when I call

this.openFileOutput("foo/bar.txt", Context.MODE_PRIVATE);

exception is thrown:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: File foo/bar.txt contains a path separator

So how do I create file in subfolder?

Android :: Need To Read Trace - Text File /no Data Directory

Sep 25, 2009

Sometimes in LogCat I'll see Wrote stack trace to '/data/anr/traces.txt'

But when using the DDMS perspective, "File Explorer" View, I can't see anything in the "data" directory, I'm assuming because permission denied. Is there a way (short of rooting my ion device) to read what's in that text file?

Is there perhaps an android app for developers that will show the contents of the file? It would seem there would have to be some way of reading the file without rooting the device, otherwise why does the o.s. write it out? How can I read this file?

Android :: Mkdirs Returns False For Directory On Sd Card While The Parent Directory Is Writable

Oct 31, 2010

At some points while running my android application, I need to create a directory on the sd card, for a small number of users this fails and I can't figure out the reason for it... (I've found similar problems caused by the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission missing, it's there and it works for almost all users so I don't think this is reason) When mkdirs returns false I crash the program and log the following java.io.File properties, starting at the directory I want to create, then recursive printing properties of the parent directory and so on...

/sdcard/MyDirectory/Dir1/Dir2 (exists: false, canWrite: false, isDirectory: false, isFile: false);
/sdcard/MyDirectory/Dir1 (exists: true, canWrite: true, isDirectory: true, isFile: false);
/sdcard/MyDirectory (exists: true, canWrite: true, isDirectory: true, isFile: false);
/sdcard (exists: true, canWrite: true, isDirectory: true, isFile: false);
/ (exists: true, canWrite: false, isDirectory: true, isFile: false);

The strange thing is that the parent directory is writable (canWrite=true), I can't print the execute file permission but from what I've read, write is what you need when creating directories... What I've looked at so far is the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission, if the sd card is full and if the sdcard is mounted read only:...........................

There are a bunch of files and folders listed (e.g. backups for apps, album artwork, etc.) as being on the SDCard. Android :: Use An ArrayAdapter (no Subclassing) With A Custom View To Display Data?

Nov 3, 2010

Often, a simple of ArrayAdapter does what I want and during early development I will provide the android.R.simple_list_item_1 for the view id required by the ArrayAdapter constructor. Is it possible to provide a customized view which is based on the android.R.simple_list_item_1 to the ArrayAdapter constructor?

I do not fully understand Android's 'include' functionality, but what I would like to do is something like:

Define a new TextView based on customizing the android.R.simple_list_item_1.
(I have no idea what the valid syntax would be)

code...

Reference my customized TextView. I assume that something like this would go into my layout directory. Then in my code I would do something like:

LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater)getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View view = inflater.inflate(R.id.MyTextView, null);
ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, view.getId(), myArrayOfData);

Is this possible and if it is, what is the appropriate syntax to accomplish what I want?

Android :: Transition Between Data In Single Dynamic View In Android?

Jun 20, 2010

Let me start out by saying that I feel like there should be a very simple way to do this, and it's entirely possible I'm missing something very simple. But all the examples I find for transition animations (push left out, push right in, etc.) deal with moving from one view to another. What about an application that only has one view, but dynamically changes the data feeding that view? The best common example of this is the base calendar app. It has identical views, but when you swipe forward or backward the date of the view transitions with a swipe animation. How do I reproduce this? Surely I don't have to inflate ViewFlippers for the same view? And if so, what is the best way to go about this?

Android :: Best Way To Store Application Data / When Data Stored / Data Format Could Change In Future Versions?

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before).For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.
