Android :: Custom Grid View With Array Adapter Out Of Sync With Backing Data

Oct 28, 2010

I'm have a custom GridView Array Adapter. The problem for me is that when the grid list gets large enough to scroll off the screen the gridview and arraylist get out of sync. For instance in my case I have code that checks if an actor is of type director the text color should be red. if you scroll up and down my list enough times all the actors text in my gridview will become red. The thing is that the Gridview appearance actually looks fine its the backing data. Here is the complete class. In the code you can see where I tried to override getItem and getItemId but that didn't fix anything. Code...

Android :: Getting Updated Array Of Data From ListView / Adapter

I must be missing something simple here.I've searched around but don't think my search query is touching on the right topics to yield results. Anyhow, what I'm after is running through the array of data I bind to a ListView after a "Submit" button has been clicked.

Android :: Filtered List View With Custom Adapter Not Updated

Mar 25, 2010

I have a ListView with a custom Adapter that extends ArrayAdapter. It's ArrayAdapter of Type Artist. (There are about 1200 artists in my list). Artist is a very small class that has a name and an id. The Artist Class has toString() overridden to return just the name. I have an EditText. The EditText has an TextChangeListener where I call .getFilter().filter(chars, callback) on my adapter. In the Filter.Filterlistener().onComplete() callback i print the count and it looks really good. As i type the count decreases. So it seams everything works as advertised, but the List stays the same. I tried to call artistAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged() to force the list to redraw, but nothing happens. [see 2.)]. I am tinkering around for days now! I am desperate. Hopefully someone can have a look on my code and tell me what I am doing wrong! How can I force the list to be redrawn?

Here is what I have done:
1.) Defined a ListView and an EditText like this:
<EditText xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="@+id/list_search_text"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="35dip"
android:layout_below="@id/header">
</EditText>
<ListView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="@+id/list_search"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
</ListView>

2.) Setup my ListView in the Activities onCreate():
private ListView listView = null;
private ArtistAdapter artistAdapter = null;
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.search_artists);
artistAdapter = new ArtistAdapter(this, R.layout.row, list); // 'list' is an ArrayList<Artist>
listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.list_search);
listView.setAdapter(artistAdapter);
listView.setFastScrollEnabled(true);
listView.setTextFilterEnabled(true);
listView.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> av, View v, int position, long id) {
// do something } });
EditText txtSearch = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.list_search_text); txtSearch.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() {
public void afterTextChanged(Editable arg0) { }
public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence arg0, int arg1, int arg2, int arg3) { }
public void onTextChanged(CharSequence chars, int start, int before, int count) {
artistAdapter.getFilter().filter(chars, new Filter.FilterListener() {
public void onFilterComplete(int count) {
Log.d(Config.LOG_TAG, "filter complete! count: " + count);
artistAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
}});
}});
}

3.) This is my ArtistAdapter in short. I added an remove() and add() method:
public class ArtistAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Artist> implements SectionIndexer {
private List<Artist> items;
/* other stuff like overridden getView, getPositionForSection,
getSectionForPosition and so on */
@Override
public void remove(Artist object) {
super.remove(object);
items.remove(object);
}
@Override
public void add(Artist object) {
super.add(object);
items.add(object);
} }

4.) My artist has also the toString() overridden:
public class Artist implements Comparable<Artist> {
public String uid;
public String name;
public Artist(String id, String name) {
this.uid = id;
this.name = name; }
public int compareTo(Artist another) {
return this.name.compareToIgnoreCase(another.name);
}
@Override
public String toString() {
return this.name;
} }

Android :: Add Childs To My Custom View Group With A Cursor Adapter?

Oct 13, 2010

I've got a schedule Class, which is simply a custom ViewGroup (with custom onMeasure() and onLayout()), which enables me to place childs(=events) with LayoutParams for column/row start and column/row end. The number of childs and their LayoutParams depend on database entries.

Now I'm trying to add childs (events) from my database. I'd have to use a Cursor Adapter, so my schedule Class has to extend ListView, right? I tried that but the newView() method of the adapter is never called. Why not? My custom ListView doesn't ask the adapter for childs, no childs are added. I also can't add the childs by hand calling schedule.addView() if I extend from AdapterView.

How can I add events to the schedule with the data from the cursor?

Android :: Multiple Column List/grid With Adapter And OnItemClickListener

Jun 19, 2010

I have a simple grid with rows of items and columns of options on each item. Of course I can manually link OnClick actions to cell items through specific resource IDs:

CODE:.............

What I'd prefer to to is use a ListView or a GridView and an Adapter. Is there a way to get cell id's from one of those? I was hoping that ListView setOnItemClickListener() would call me with the view id of a view within row 'position': onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View view, int position, long id) { ... }

But no go. Maybe a different approach?

Update:

I started with this:

CODE:.............

I'd assumed that I couldn't go into my Adapter and set child view OnClickListeners. Bad assumption. When I went back at this I gave it a try:

CODE:.................

Android :: Add() Function Of Array Adapter Not Working

Mar 1, 2010

I have an ArrayAdapter (myAdapter) attached to an AutoCompleteTextView (textView)component. Once the user presses a character I would like to populate AutoCompleteTextView's drop down list with items containing this character. I retrieve the items using AsyncTask (which uses a web service).

I call myAdapter.add(item) but the drop down list is empty.I added a call myAdapter.getCount() after each addition and it shows zero every time.
Calling notifyDataSetChanged() didn't help.I even tried to add simple String objects instead of my custom objects, to no avail.What am I doing wrong?

Edit: I changed the code as miette suggested below but still to no avail.
Generally, what I do is after text is changed in my auto complete text view, I call a new AsyncTask and pass it the entered text and a Handler (see afterTextChanged()). The task retrieves objects relevant to the text and once done the Handler's handleMessage() is called. In handleMessage() I attempt to populate the adapter's objects. But still the adapter's drop down list ends up empty.

Here is my code:

public class AddStockView extends Activity implements OnClickListener, OnItemClickListener, TextWatcher {
ArrayAdapter<Stock> adapter;
AutoCompleteTextView textView;
Vector<Stock> stocks;
public AddStockView() {
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
stocks = new Vector<Stock>();}
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
setContentView(R.layout.add_stock_view);
findViewById(R.id.abort_button).setOnClickListener(this);
adapter = new ArrayAdapter<Stock>(this,
android.R.layout.simple_dropdown_item_1line, stocks);
//adapter.setNotifyOnChange(true);
textView = (AutoCompleteTextView)
findViewById(R.id.search_edit_text);
textView.setAdapter(adapter);
textView.setOnItemClickListener(this);
textView.addTextChangedListener(this);} Code...

Android :: Use An ArrayAdapter (no Subclassing) With A Custom View To Display Data?

Nov 3, 2010

Often, a simple of ArrayAdapter does what I want and during early development I will provide the android.R.simple_list_item_1 for the view id required by the ArrayAdapter constructor. Is it possible to provide a customized view which is based on the android.R.simple_list_item_1 to the ArrayAdapter constructor?

I do not fully understand Android's 'include' functionality, but what I would like to do is something like:

Define a new TextView based on customizing the android.R.simple_list_item_1.
(I have no idea what the valid syntax would be)

code...

Reference my customized TextView. I assume that something like this would go into my layout directory. Then in my code I would do something like:

LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater)getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View view = inflater.inflate(R.id.MyTextView, null);
ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, view.getId(), myArrayOfData);

Is this possible and if it is, what is the appropriate syntax to accomplish what I want?

Android :: Implementing Sync Adapter / Sync Icon Wont Disappear

Oct 18, 2010

I'm implementing my own sync adapter and everything works great. A strange i'm having is that after the sync is over, the Android still shows the sync icon (the one with the rounded arrow) in the account activity, and that someone (i guess its the account manager) repeatedly calls the sync again and again, every 30 to 60 seconds. Now i tried all sort of things to test this issue and i have discovered something strange. In my code, i do resolver.applyBatch every 50 new rows. (each new contact i sync has about 5 rows). If i remove the applyBatch (which means i retrieve the data from the next, sort it and prepare it, but never "commit" it) - the problem goes away. The icon disappear and the account manager never calls it again on its own (I'm using Android 2.1). I must also state that no exception is being thrown in any of the cases and that all the methods finish gracefully.
