Android :: Unable To Sync Ical / Contacts - Wifi Not Connecting
Jun 7, 2010
I just returned this fabulous device called the EVO. After waiting months and prepping by joining android forums and downloading various applications I found that the small bit lethal disagreements of not being able to properly sync iCal/contacts, wifi not connecting to networks in the same room and the biggest issue of them all, 1 phone bar in your house and outside of your house, making the use of such a wonderful device like buying a car without wheelswhats the sense (pun intended). I just dont get how after such advancements in technology how such well thought out devices like Macs OS and a open source OS like Android cant get along. Millions are invested in R&D in these OS and devices. And things like contacts and calendar should be simple enough to play with any OS. Still I looked past those issues until I ran into the wifi issues at home. I am a techie at heart and a finance database programmer by day. So, when I say that my wifi setup at home should be able to connect to any b/g/n capable chip, I am not doing any guessing here. My EVO just would not get more than one bar, and I updated the firmware on my wireless network even when all of the other devices work perfectly well with my setup.

Activesync syncs my exchange inbox with my hero but not my calendar, contacts, subfolders or any other folder (deleted items, etc). It looks like the folders are there, but they are actually empty. The calendar issue is not really a problem now that i am using Google Calendar Sync, but i would like ALL my exchange email to be on my phone.

I received my HTC last week and I am very pleased with the phone. However I am experiencing one issue with my carkit, the parrot ck3200 LS Color.
It doesn't seem to sync my contacts. Everytime after a couple of contacts it says "Synchronization failed". At first I thought it was because I have some pictures associated with my contacts, so I deleted every picture from every contact, but no luck. The sync still fails at contacts that are in my Facebook friend list. I tried to find some settings where I can turn off the picture sych, but couldn't find it. Then I realized I don't even want the facebook friends to be synced with the phone, but I couldn't find any setting in the carkit or phone to turn that of.
Does anybody have an idea in solving the issue so that my carkit and phone will sync whitout issues?

What about handheld devices (PDAs, Smartphones, etc)? For Windows Mobile devices, there is SecureW2 for Windows Mobile. For iPhone, see our iPhone Web page. Currently, we know of no method for connecting Palm, Blackberry, or Nokia devices that are not running Windows Mobile to the UIC-Wireless network.

When at work I switch on my Wifi so that I don't use my plan data unnecessarily. When I do that it switches off 3G (which is good) but then most of my apps don't seem to connect - eg Facebook, Market, GMail, etc... So are most apps not able to operate on Wifi alone? Is there some config I need to change to make the apps be able to switch easily between 3G and Wifi connectivity?

I just acquired my first proper smart phone, the HTC desire, and am quite pleased so far.I am looking for an application, widget or setting that automatically updates my gmail, weather, news and whatnot when I connect to a wifi hotspot. If this can't be done automatically I guess a simple button on my home-screen would do.Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I have two WiFi access points in my house, due to thick walls. When I turn on my phone it searches and connects to the first access point it finds, which is not necessarily the one with the strongest signal. e.g. I have one access point on channel 10 (lounge) and another on channel 1 (bedroom). When I'm in the lounge it always connects to the A/P in the bedroom, unless I actively "forget" that network, even though the signal strength of the one in the bedroom is VERY weak. Is there a way to force it to pick the strongest A/P?

We have an application where we'd like to use the WiFi connection on a local network (intranet) with no Internet connectivity, and use the 3G connection simultaneously as the data connection to the internet. To summarize:
We need to connect to two distinct networks at the same time - We need data traffic to be properly routed to the appropriate network based on its IP address - We need both radios (WiFi and 3G) on and active. This can easily be done on the iPhone, but not sure if it can be done on the Android.

I'm having an issue with my new Desire HD in that it won't connect to my home Wifi. It can find the network no problem and select it, but after I type in the password it says "Disconnected" then seems to go through Disconnected-Scanning-Connecting-Disconnected loop without letting me know whats happening. Initially I thought to myself "Perhaps it doesn't like WPA2", so I completely opened up the network. Then after scanning, it was showing on the phone that the network was still WPA/WPA2. I tried connecting to it anyways but it still asked me for a password and wouldn't let me through without one. Thinking something funky must have happened, I restarted the phone but it didn't change anything.

I just got the HTC Evo 4G yesterday and rooted it using the Unrevoked method (not sure if there is another). I then downloaded the Wireless Tether for root users. For some reason i cant get anthing to recognize it. I've tried looking for the signal with my ipod and laptop but nothing! What setting needs to be changed? I have tried to find this issue on other posts, but nothing.

I'm having trouble connecting my tattoo to my home Wifi. I have seen similar posts to this one, but as of yet, no resolution.
I can connect to my Wifi at my uni address with no problems, so it is obviously a fault with the wireless rather than the phone.
The phone asks for the WEP password which I put in correctly, it then says "obtaining IP address" only to return with 'unsuccessful' or 'disconnected' - which may indicate that there is some security that is stopping the phone connecting?

I have just installed HTC Sync 2.0.18 on both my computers and none of them will recognize my phone when I connect it. One of the computers is a Dell Inspiron 9400 running Vista and the other is a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 under VMWare Fusion 3.0.2.HTC Sync 2.0.18 should work in Windows 7 and definitely under Vista so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. On both computers I'm running AVG Antivirus 9.0 Free, on which I disabled resident shield during installations, as recommended.

I have a feeling my problem is the router and not my Droid, but I thoght I would try anyway.
I have 2 networks that I conenct to at my work. An open network and a secure one.
The open network, which has weak signal, I have no problem connecting to.
However, when I try to connect to the secure network, which i have great signal, I get "Disabled, secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK". I am positive I have the right password.
The strange part is I have had my Droid for less than 2 weeks. Before I had an Eris and would connect to that network everyday without any problems. But have never been able to connect with my Droid once I dont think anything has changed with that router, but i cant say for sure.
Any ideas as to why the Droid wont connect? Unfortunately, i dont have access to the routers settings. Unless I really had to, i can try to access it early in the morning

For some reason my wifi no longer connects to my home network automatically. I need to go in to the wireless settings then in to the wifi settings menu itself, where I'll see my network "Not in range-remembered" for a second and then it'll connect itself. It wasn't like this a few days ago, and I don't think this happens at the 2 other wireless networks I frequent, I'll try and remember to check tomorrow when I drop off my son at the in-laws.
I deleted the network and added it back in, still no auto connect. I rebooted the phone and it connected once, then after I turned off wifi and turned it back on, it went back to needing a manual connect, which it really isn't even that. It just doesnt want to connect unless I go in to the wifi settings.

I'm trying to connect to an ad-hoc wifi network with WEP encryption made available by a Windows 7 laptop, which has an Intel 4965AGN NIC. The phone doesn't see the network, and adding it manually doesn't help either. Another laptop, running XP, sees and connects to the network just fine.

Now I wish there was a way to connect my Non-Rooted Froyo Incredible to Ad-Hoc WiFi networks, but I can't seem to find a way. Does anyone know of any ways to connect my Incredible to my Ad-Hoc WiFi networks? Because that would be the only reason I would root my incredible, but I wouldn't do it if there wasn't a solution available.

Our home wifi router gives my wife and I perfect wifi speed & strength for both laptops, both i-touches & my iPad; however, bought my wife a Nexus 7 yesterday & it always states 'out of range' unless I am within 5 feet of the router (as this is upstairs in a spare room, this is not exactly ideal...)
I've seen elsewhere there are possible issues with the Nexus 7 & also the Kindle Fire HD (which is/was an alternative for my wife) & could be down to 5ghz or 2.4ghz transmission on the router?
Should the Nexus 7 go back in favour of a Kindle Fire HD (which boasts better wifi connectivity)?
