Android :: Automatic Syncing When Connecting To WiFi

Nov 28, 2010

I just acquired my first proper smart phone, the HTC desire, and am quite pleased so far.I am looking for an application, widget or setting that automatically updates my gmail, weather, news and whatnot when I connect to a wifi hotspot. If this can't be done automatically I guess a simple button on my home-screen would do.Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Android :: Automatic syncing when connecting to WiFi

Android :: No Automatic WiFi Handover Between Access Points

Nov 16, 2010

I have a Samsung Galaxy S, running Froyo. I have an issue with WiFi handover, so I am posting here (in addition to the SGS section) in case this is an Android issue rather than an SGS-specific issue. I have two WiFi Access Points (APs) at home, both using the same SSID, but on different channels.

I expected the SGS to automatically move (handover) from one AP to another based on signal strengths that vary depending on where I am. However, this does not happen. It stays on the AP that it is connected to, even when moving to very poor signal levels. I need to manually trigger this (e.g by disconnecting from the AP). Any configuration or Android app. By the way, I also tried configuring the APs with different SSIDs, but this didn't work either.

HTC EVO 4G :: App For Automatic Bluetooth / WiFi On / Off?

Jul 1, 2010

Is there an app that will automatically recognize when I am near my bluetooth headset (which I keep in the car) and turn bluetooth on, then off again when I am out of range? Same for my home wifi? I typically turn one off and the other on when I leave the house or come home. Any way to automate it? I know there are ones where you can schedule it, but I don't have a predictable schedule, so that won't work for me.

General :: Automatic Timezone Incorrect On WiFi?

Apr 22, 2014

I'm testing a hybrid phone/scanner that came from China and I noticed the time was wrong on it (we don't use the phone part), so I went into time settings and it was set to automatic date & time and timezone, but when I turned off automatic timezone it said it was still China even though I've been using the device for a week. When I look up our IP on the web it says it's in the US in the correct state so I don't understand why Android is not locating the phone by IP.

I've noticed on other Android phones the time randomly goes incorrect when off cell service (like on my old Droid 2 or Galaxy Tab which I keep the cell service off for), so this appears to be a bug in Android. Is there a way I can smack the phone so it does it automatically or do I always have to expect Google not to do this right and make me have to manually set the timezone (and sometimes the time)?

Android :: Wifi Instead Of 3G - Apps Not Connecting

Jul 12, 2010

When at work I switch on my Wifi so that I don't use my plan data unnecessarily. When I do that it switches off 3G (which is good) but then most of my apps don't seem to connect - eg Facebook, Market, GMail, etc... So are most apps not able to operate on Wifi alone? Is there some config I need to change to make the apps be able to switch easily between 3G and Wifi connectivity?

Android :: Connecting To Strongest WiFi Access Point

Sep 9, 2010

I have two WiFi access points in my house, due to thick walls. When I turn on my phone it searches and connects to the first access point it finds, which is not necessarily the one with the strongest signal. e.g. I have one access point on channel 10 (lounge) and another on channel 1 (bedroom). When I'm in the lounge it always connects to the A/P in the bedroom, unless I actively "forget" that network, even though the signal strength of the one in the bedroom is VERY weak. Is there a way to force it to pick the strongest A/P?

Android :: Connecting To 3G And WiFi Data Networks Simultaneously?

Jul 13, 2010

We have an application where we'd like to use the WiFi connection on a local network (intranet) with no Internet connectivity, and use the 3G connection simultaneously as the data connection to the internet. To summarize:

We need to connect to two distinct networks at the same time - We need data traffic to be properly routed to the appropriate network based on its IP address - We need both radios (WiFi and 3G) on and active. This can easily be done on the iPhone, but not sure if it can be done on the Android.

Android :: Unable To Sync Ical / Contacts - Wifi Not Connecting

Jun 7, 2010

I just returned this fabulous device called the EVO. After waiting months and prepping by joining android forums and downloading various applications I found that the small bit lethal disagreements of not being able to properly sync iCal/contacts, wifi not connecting to networks in the same room and the biggest issue of them all, 1 phone bar in your house and outside of your house, making the use of such a wonderful device like buying a car without wheelswhats the sense (pun intended). I just dont get how after such advancements in technology how such well thought out devices like Macs OS and a open source OS like Android cant get along. Millions are invested in R&D in these OS and devices. And things like contacts and calendar should be simple enough to play with any OS. Still I looked past those issues until I ran into the wifi issues at home. I am a techie at heart and a finance database programmer by day. So, when I say that my wifi setup at home should be able to connect to any b/g/n capable chip, I am not doing any guessing here. My EVO just would not get more than one bar, and I updated the firmware on my wireless network even when all of the other devices work perfectly well with my setup.

HTC Desire HD :: Not Connecting To WiFi

Nov 16, 2010

I'm having an issue with my new Desire HD in that it won't connect to my home Wifi. It can find the network no problem and select it, but after I type in the password it says "Disconnected" then seems to go through Disconnected-Scanning-Connecting-Disconnected loop without letting me know whats happening. Initially I thought to myself "Perhaps it doesn't like WPA2", so I completely opened up the network. Then after scanning, it was showing on the phone that the network was still WPA/WPA2. I tried connecting to it anyways but it still asked me for a password and wouldn't let me through without one. Thinking something funky must have happened, I restarted the phone but it didn't change anything.

HTC Tattoo :: Connecting To Wifi

Dec 18, 2009

I'm having trouble connecting my tattoo to my home Wifi. I have seen similar posts to this one, but as of yet, no resolution.

I can connect to my Wifi at my uni address with no problems, so it is obviously a fault with the wireless rather than the phone.

The phone asks for the WEP password which I put in correctly, it then says "obtaining IP address" only to return with 'unsuccessful' or 'disconnected' - which may indicate that there is some security that is stopping the phone connecting?

Motorola Droid :: Wifi Not Connecting To WPA

Jul 26, 2010

I have a feeling my problem is the router and not my Droid, but I thoght I would try anyway.

I have 2 networks that I conenct to at my work. An open network and a secure one.

The open network, which has weak signal, I have no problem connecting to.
However, when I try to connect to the secure network, which i have great signal, I get "Disabled, secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK". I am positive I have the right password.

The strange part is I have had my Droid for less than 2 weeks. Before I had an Eris and would connect to that network everyday without any problems. But have never been able to connect with my Droid once I dont think anything has changed with that router, but i cant say for sure.

Any ideas as to why the Droid wont connect? Unfortunately, i dont have access to the routers settings. Unless I really had to, i can try to access it early in the morning

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Not Auto Connecting

Aug 1, 2010

For some reason my wifi no longer connects to my home network automatically. I need to go in to the wireless settings then in to the wifi settings menu itself, where I'll see my network "Not in range-remembered" for a second and then it'll connect itself. It wasn't like this a few days ago, and I don't think this happens at the 2 other wireless networks I frequent, I'll try and remember to check tomorrow when I drop off my son at the in-laws.

I deleted the network and added it back in, still no auto connect. I rebooted the phone and it connected once, then after I turned off wifi and turned it back on, it went back to needing a manual connect, which it really isn't even that. It just doesnt want to connect unless I go in to the wifi settings.

General :: Nexus 7 Not Connecting To WiFi

Oct 26, 2012

Our home wifi router gives my wife and I perfect wifi speed & strength for both laptops, both i-touches & my iPad; however, bought my wife a Nexus 7 yesterday & it always states 'out of range' unless I am within 5 feet of the router (as this is upstairs in a spare room, this is not exactly ideal...)

I've seen elsewhere there are possible issues with the Nexus 7 & also the Kindle Fire HD (which is/was an alternative for my wife) & could be down to 5ghz or 2.4ghz transmission on the router?

Should the Nexus 7 go back in favour of a Kindle Fire HD (which boasts better wifi connectivity)?

HTC Desire :: O2 Desire - Cant Disble Wifi - Wifi Not Connecting Properly Either

May 24, 2010

I'm having to move networks from Virgin back to o2.

I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.

Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly

I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...

Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...
