Android : Type Of List To Store Multiple Data Types

Dec 15, 2009

So my problem is that I've written a function that takes two Doubles, two Int, and a Calendar object on Android (Java). I believe the class provided to allow it to run in a separate thread, AsyncTask, accepts only one type of Object (but allows multiple) as an argument so I figured I might be able to put it in a List or a Linked List or something. Is there such a type that allows multiple data types like that (Double, Double, Int, Int, Calendar), or would I have to create my own object class? I'm a novice programmer so less complicated is probably better, but I'm interested in the best solution as well. What the function does is take a location (double latitude, double longitude), a couple options as integers, and a Calendar Object. It takes the location, options, and date then returns a Time object of the sunrise (or sunset, depending on the options) for that location. and I understand it would probably be best to create a special object class and just pass that, or override the background thread class, but I'm pretty new to object-oriented programming so the less overhead the better (for now). (Update) After a lot of work, it ended up being easier making a data-type class and just using that. The right way turned out to be easier in the end. Who'd a thought.

In the scenario that I made up a user chooses an application and and I offer him/her the available pieces of data to operate on. I know that the possible data type for an application is specified in its manifest file and I suppose that this information is available, but I have some difficulty finding out what the data content type for application is?

Android : List Of Droids MIME Types?

Feb 12, 2009

I can't seem to find out how a MIME type is found. For instance, say I want my application to bring up Contacts. Where can I find the MIME type for that task? I currently have the following:

Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT); intent.setType("*/*");

Intent newIntent = Intent.createChooser(intent, null); startActivityForResult( newIntent , SHOW_VERIFY_ACTIVITY );

And the wildcards work. But I would like to be more explicit. Like the following:

intent.setType("vnd.android.cursor.item/contacts");

...but is not valid.

Android :: Best Way To Store Application Data / When Data Stored / Data Format Could Change In Future Versions?

Mar 4, 2010

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before).For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.

Android :: Graphically Represent Multiple List Selections / Dynamically Change List Item View

Apr 23, 2010

I'm trying to create a multiple selection list where the selection is represented graphically rather than with checkboxes.My list has checkboxes, but I want them to serve a different purpose. I'm using a cursor to hold my data and created a custom view binder for the SimpleCursorAdapter. I did this for the checkboxes and general flexibility.So far I haven't even been able to show one line as being selected. I've enabled multiple selection on the list and denied the children of the list item focusability. I've tried manually changing background color with the position fed in through the list item click listener. But the wrong items get changed and they don't even change to the right color. I've enabled touch focusability with no improvement either.Ideally, I'd like the trackball highlight focus bar to appear in multiple places. But I don't think this is possible unless you use the drawable directly. But I don't know how to find or apply it. My next idea was to have a slim view bar that changes color. But I had the same problem with the wrong item being selected so I never finished trying to guess the index position to see if this would work. My most recent idea is to completely swap out the view for another one if it's selected. But I have no idea how to do this either. I'm thinking of using an array list to store the _id s of the items that need a different view to get around the wierd selection problem. I'm also thinking of passing in the ID field as my from and the selection view as the to for my adapter. Then I'd intercept it with my binder and change the view accordingly. But once again, I'm not sure how to do this successfuly.

Android :: Retrieving List Type From Remote Service

Aug 15, 2009

I am having trouble passing a List type from a remote service to the UI activity. Here is a modified version of RemoteService example from the APIDemo. (only included where its modified)

PROBLEM: The call back function (for List) is called successfully, but the List returned is empty...

It works fine when the service does not run in a remote process. (w/o android:process=":remote" in the manifest file)

Why is this happening...?

Also, when I tried Map type, it didn't even successfully generate a IRemoteServiceCallback.java file.... it tries to do new Map().... and complains that its an abstract class.. (FYI, List instantiates by new ArrayList())

1. in IRemoteServiceCallback.java oneway interface IRemoteServiceCallback { /*** Called when the service has a new value for you. */void valueChanged(int value); void valueChangedList(out List values); void valueString(String value);}

Android :: Use Multiple Files To Store String Values

Jun 23, 2009

Is it possible to store strings values in multiple files? Eg, strings.xml, strings1.xml, strings2.xml etc.

I do not mean localized versions of the same file - those multiple files should contain different string ids in the same language, so in code they would be refered like: R.strings1.my_string_1 R.strings1.my_string_2 R.strings2.my_string_3 etc. So, "strings1", "strings2", "strings3" would be a kind of namespace for them.

Or, another way is to have multiple R classes inside one project, which would deal with different stringsXXX.xml files.

Like, currently we can refer to "my.name.space.R" and to "android.R" at the same time, so is it possible to have: android.R my.name.space1.R my.name.space2.R etc

At the same time inside single project?

I have used ImageView's before and understand the different scale types that can be set... However I am having an incredibly difficult time trying to get an ImageView to scale properly in the row of a ListActivity or an ExpandableListActivity.

I have tried setting the android:scaleType property to every single value but the image never scales down. I have set the min and max sizes as well and they don't seem to have any effect. I have done both of these things in both the XMl and in code to no avail...

Does anyone have any ideas or perhaps a workaround? code...

Android :: Determining Data Type Of Column In SQLite

Jun 23, 2010

I'm working on an Android App where the user has different options for sorting the displayed data that comes from the database. Currently my orderBy string that I pass to Androids query() method looks like this:

"LOWER("+columnName+") ASC"

The problem with this is that if the data type in the column specified by columnName is integer, calling LOWER() on it will cause it to be sorted alphabetically, i.e. based only on the leftmost digit, which of course doesn't make any sense for numeric data. Hence I only want to apply LOWER() if the data type of the column is not integer. What I have in mind is a statement like this:

"CASE WHEN [data type of columnName is integer] THEN "+columnName+" ASC ELSE LOWER("+columName+") ASC END"

The part in the brackets is what I don't know how to do. Does SQLite provide a function to determine a column's data type?

General :: Google Play Store With Multiple Accounts - 403

Mar 22, 2014

Have had an ongoing problem with error 403 in the Google Play Store.In this case, the issue seems to have arisen because I have historically used 2 google accounts to purchase apps. 'Account A' from 4 to 3 years ago, and 'Account B' from 3 years onwards.

I now only have 'Account B' on my phone (N7000), however, some of the apps which I purchased with 'Account A' still appear as purchased in my Google Play Store, even although phone can be hard reset with no further 'Account A' reference. So I get this 403 download problem, although I wouldn't even mind just buying some apps afresh with 'Account B'. Also, maybe of relevance, the same card was used to purchase on both accounts.

Is there a way I can 'clear' the original 'Account A' purchases?
