I've already created XML using DOM in Android. Now I have a problem converting my Document data to String since transform factor is not available in Android. I need to FileOutputStream the Strings that came from the Document.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created an android app. It sends a data message on a port for communicating with the same app on some other phone. While sending the message, i have encoded it into binary data using ISO8859_1 encoding.

I am able to receive the data message at the receiving end. But the problem is that after receving it in binary format , My app needs to decode the message back to string or human read-able format. But i am not able to do the same.
I have tried to convert it into String using 'toString()' but string contains binary character .
My input is a InputStream which contains an XML document. Encoding used in XML is unknown and it is defined in the first line of XML document.
From this InputStream, I want to have all document in a String.
To do this, I use a BufferedInputStream to mark the beginning of the file and start reading first line. I read this first line to get encoding and then I use an InputStreamReader to generate a String with the correct encoding.
It seems that it is not the best way to achieve this goal because it produces an OutOfMemory error.
Any idea, how to do it ? code...
Since the type is determined automatically by the build system ( booleans, ints, floats and strings ) i wondered if there is any way to force the datatype to string.I tried adding a space at the end ( "5555555555 "), but then the value gets interpreted as 5.5555553E9 float! ).I also tried using getString instead of get, but then null is returned.

The problem is that the webpage I'm scraping is encoded in ISO-8859-1 charset while Android is using UTF-8 encoding(?). This is results in some characters shows up as question marks. So now I guess I should convert the string to UTF-8 format. Now I have found this Class called CharsetEncoder in the Android SDK, which I guess could help me. But I can't figure out how to implement it in practice, so I wonder if could get som help with by a practical example.

For some reason, even on a new program, in which I have made no changes to the default build, it gives the error java.lang.NullPointerException after every character I type. I can't figure out why it is doing this, as I am just trying to edit the text between the Text I want to set it to say something other than what is set by default. However, even with a fresh build, no changes, and I just try to change the text within the xml tags, it still gives the error. What do I need to do to allow it to let me type? I am using the eclips IDE and the android sdk. I was able to do the first part of the tutorial that doesn't involve XML.

I would also like to insert data on this table from word or excel document. is it possible? if so please how can I do it? some code snippets would be of great help. I have four different activities which I would like them to interact with this single table. the first is the main activity and its purpose is just to launch the other three activities according to user choice. so it has no interaction with the DB. but the other three activities will read from the table whenever called. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on the android bandwagon and started going through google's "view" tutorials. Everything was hunky-dory until I hit the grid view tutorial. I got errors all over the place when I started editing the "HelloGridview.java" File. I thought I'd fix it by following through with the next part of the tutorial, creating the ImageAdapter class, but it created more. I realized alot of my issues could be resolved by importing widgets which were not mentioned in the tutorial (i.e. android.widget.GridView,.ImageView, .BaseAdapter etc.) However, after all the reconciliation suggested by eclipse the files were finally showing no errors. I go to run it as an android app and bam, "Your project contains error(s)." window comes up. There are no errors showing on the files I've created. I cleared the error log and shut down eclipse and started again the error log now reads: Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1. I'm a little lost at this point. I think I've included the required information. If you need to know more let me know.

I have <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/> as a child of manifest and <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> as a child of application too.....
Moreover, when i try to import com.google,android.maps.MapActivity, it says com.google cannot be resolved....

Problem being that ,RingtoneManager.EXTRA_RINGTONE_PICKED_URI returns a string not a uri.There might be a better way than to convert the string to a Uri. I cannot find a reason why java.net.URI can do it and android.net.Uri can't.

I moved to shape writer and I haven't looked back. when I have to tap-type in certain words that aren't in the SW dictionary yet, its a pain in the @ss. I talked a couple other people into "swyping" instead of tapping and they fought at first, now they two can't stand tap typing anymore.

LIstFolderActivity.java: String format = getResources().getString (R.string.message_empty_folder); System.out.println(format);
Log output: Folder %s is empty.
What's eating up the double quotes?
