Android :: Transferring Palm Memos To Based Devices
Oct 3, 2010
Having used Palm PDA and smartphones for many years, I have hundred of memo items that I would like to transfer to my Droid X. One option I have explored is to import Palm memos into SplashData. Importing CSV data from Palm to SplashData on a PC is causing a crash; probably some minor formatting issue that I am trying to debug. I am sure there are many other long time Palm users who have switched to Android based devices who have faced the same need. Looking for any pointers to apps or ways to transfer the data...

I've been largely pleased with the Droid after about 12 years using Palm devices. The exception is the inability to easily, quickly import the 550+ Memos I've authored over the years. Plenty of apps will import one huge memo, but none will import a csv file of ALL the memos. This includes OI Note. Does anyone have any experience successfully importing such a large number of memos without having to extensively edit? Or ideally, edit at all?

I added Note Everything, Lite version, and tried to import memoes from my Palm TX. I created a file "full memo.mpa" on my SD card. When I open the Palm Memo import option in Note Everything it finds the file but then tries parsing the file as an Outlook Import. It never completes just continually says Parsing file... I do note that if I use Astro to read my SD card it shows the file association the be "Music" i.e. a music icon?? If I tap the file the Music App opens?

Have been using Palm for many years with multiple contacts, which transfered over with first name rather than last-any ideas? Multiple memos, and the transfer by sprint resulted in one big file. Getting used to the phone, if I could only use my multiple memos!

I am about to begin a nursing program in January nd they require us to purchase a Palm T/X PDA ($299) so we can run certain nursing apps such as a note card software, refrence material etc.Now i was wondering, why would i buy a $300 PDA when i can get a G1 for about $200, that's a phone as well nd has a full QWERTY key-board + camera, and... has a 528 MHz processor vs the 312 MHz runnin the Palm T/X (Palm OS Garnet, 5.4.9) So my question is could i run the Palm OS based softwares on a G1 if i get it?

I was wondering if there was an easy way to kind Of"sync"or transfer gave data for various games between two device. I am more interested in resuming my save data of Hungry Sharks Evolution that I already have On my Note II onto my Note 10.1, but transferring for Games like 4 pics word or Angry Birds would be nice as well.

All SYMBIAN based end devices accept Java language Applications
(i)Does this mean that the applications made for Android would run in S60 ,without any modifications?
(ii)If not then what exactly we mean when we say the above statement? Is there any web link to which I can refer to?
(iii)What are the coding guidelines that we need to follow so that an Android application can be ported on S60 with minimum changes?

I can't believe that I can't find this using search, as I'm sure it gets asked at least once a day somewhere on the forum. Can you sync notes directly with Outlook? I know that third-party apps allow you to sync the calendar and contacts (at least I HOPE they do). But I don't see anything about syncing the notes/memos.

I just switched from palm to the hero. Palm had the ability to make certain contacts and memos private. Is there a way to do that? Also with photos or other apps to lock them? That was a great feature of palm.

I'm a Palm refugee who is looking for some sort of memo app for storing dozens of snippets of miscellaneous information. My research so far suggests that my (seemingly modest) list of essential requirements isn't ticked by any existing application, I guess I'm just posting to get confirmation of this, or to see whether I'm missing something! Two requirements:
- ability to sync with something, so that most of the maintenance of the memos could be done on a keyboard and proper screen. Ideally I'd rather this was a desktop application on my own PC for privacy, but it seems like an attachment to privacy marks me out as some sort of relic of a bygone era, so I'm prepared to compromise on cloud synchronization.
- ability to export memos in a form which is reasonably transportable, eg a CSV file. Again, call me hopelessly old-fashioned, but I would no more put all my data into an application which has no exit route than I'd put all my money into a bank which doesn't like customers to make withdrawals. As I say this doesn't seem unduly demanding, but I think current technology is some way behind my brief shopping list. I suppose I'd quite like the ability to import Palm memos (from a CSV file), but I've given up on making such demands and I'd be prepared to spend the evening cutting and pasting by hand for the right app!In short, as far as I can see, Evernote ties you into some bizarre database of their own with no way out, Note Everything has no sync or export facility, and nor does 3banana. So it looks like I'll be carrying my Palm around unless someone can tell me differently!

I have being trying to find an app the syncs Memos on my Droid X with either my computer or with Gmail. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the right app. So my approach is to set up a contact in Gmail and populate the "Note" field only with my Memo information. Then on my Droid X & in Gmail, I set up a contact group titled "Memos" and added these contacts to that group. This way, the "Memos" are on my handheld and sync'd with Gmail and can be viewed separately from my other contacts when I look at the "Memos" contact group.
It would be nice if we were able to automatically sync our "groups" in Gmail with the "groups" on Droid X instead of setting up the groups manually, but this is another one of the stupid deficiencies in the Droid X software.

I am developing my am on mac (10.5.8), on eclipse and SDK 1.6 and a Vodafone HTC Magic Everything was working ok up to a few days ago. I can not see my device on adb devices. I also got a Sony Xperia and I can not see it on the list either. I upgraded the phone software (the HTC) to 1.6 a few days ago. Maybe that is what caused the change, but I could not be sure.

In anticipation of a new HTC Incredible soon, I opened a gmail account. I have exported 12 years of calendar, thousands of contacts, notes, and tasks from a PC palm desktop. It created a .dba file, which gmail does not recognize. How can i convert it to .csv or whatever? I was able to easily import ~1000 contacts from my Mac address book.

I need a widget or app similar to a palm app called "Big clock".It has the following functionality:
1. Time: The time tab has a full calendar, time and date
2. World Clock: With at least 2 cities
3. Alarms: 4 configurable alarms that can be set to repeat on a day or days selected. (Great to remind me to watch certain shows).
4. Count-down timer.
I hope someone can point me to an app that has all these features or hopefully a developer can develop a similar app for Android.Click the link to view the big clock app from palm (Warning) it's a very old app and shows it's age: bigclock

I'm transitioning my PIM's from my Palm TX to a shiny, new Evo. Big jump I know. My major concern was how to manage the hundreds of memos I had accumulated over the years. I loved the simplicity of the Palm desktop, offline access, and easy syncing but was having trouble finding a good alternative on android even after reading through many forums. I stumbled onto B-folders which seems to work great as a Palm desktop memo replacement.B-folders has a desktop component that is similar to the Palm desktop in its simplicity and ease of use. It's actually cleaner than the example they have on their website. The B-folders app is also nice and clean. Porting hundreds of memos in multiple different categories was actually very easy. Here's how I did it:
1)On the Palm desktop within a category, select all memos.
2)Export as a csv file. When it asks to specify export fields, only check "Memo".
3)On the B-folders desktop, import as a generic csv file.
4)A new folder called "Imported Data" will be created. Right click on it to edit the name.
5)Repeat for all your memo categories.
6)Sync with your app and you're done! You'll have all your memos on your desktop and phone and can sync them anytime. I used wifi to sync.
There is a 30 day trial after which it costs $30. I'm not one to usually pay for apps but this one might be worth it. Hopefully this helps all those die-hard PalmOS users left out there!

This is more hypothetical than anything, but I was thinking that if I ever want to travel to Europe, I could bring my Palm Treo with me and buy a SIM card there, since my Verizon Moto Droid wouldn't work there.
So how could I get my calendar and contacts from my Droid and into my Palm?

I've used Palm phones for the last 10 years and I'm making the switch to Android soon. The Palm program I use the most (and rely on daily) is DateBk (by Pimlico). I've used DateBk for the last 4 years and love it.
One big reason I'm moving to an Android phone is to push all I can into the "Cloud." That way I can have everywhere access to my information and schedule and it's automatically backed up. So I really don't want to buy DateBk (even if it comes to Android) because it's not really a "Cloud" friendly program.
Is Google Calendar coupled with the free "Remember the Milk" app (or maybe it's $10 for Android users) a good replacement for DateBk?
