Android :: System/Battery Monitor
Nov 15, 2009
Are there any decent system/battery monitors out there? Preferably ones that don't take up so much memory and that don't drain the battery.
Also, are there any apps that would let me know what apps use up the most power and memory?

Can anyone recommend a good battery monitor-typed app? It can be a widget or app, but I'd like to have some sort of visual representation of how much battery is left (like a %). Doesn't have to be in notification area (unless I can hide the stock one). All the ones I search in the market just don't look like they are worth anything, and if I pay for one, I want it to be worth it. I'm monitoring my battery usage. I installed one and it told me 30% but the stock battery bar was full. It was then uninstalled.

I can't find an app to monitor the battery voltage, discharge, and charge in mA like in this pic. I have tried TONS of apps that tell me the % of the battery, and the temp but none that show that. Can you even do that with the android OS?

I consider that my "About Phone ->battery Use" is not really accurate in my case. Can you advice me regarding another android battery usage monitor application ? I am interested in seeing the exact consumption (in percentage) of each service/application.

This is NOT a "my battery life sucks" thread, i'm just wondering what apps everyone uses to monitor their battery life and device usage.
I'm currently using:
Default Settings > Battery > Battery Use
Spare Parts
System Panel
Battery Graph

I started developing this yesterday, and wanted to get thoughts. My goal is a notification driven warning service. It's not going to "fix" the issues, but will at least monitor some key things.
I'm just trying to take all these forum posts where users don't understand what is causing a battery drain.
I don't want to make this app to complicated, but want it to be useful to auto catch issues before the phone dies.

Basically i went from getting 15+ hours of battery life to getting 4 hours today and maybe 7 yesterday. This is 2 days in a row. Running baked snack 1.9 with not too many apps.. I had gone a few weeks being amazed by battery life. I don't think I've added any apps that would cause this.

To find this, long press on the home button and then press the summary tab. There is a battery monitor at the bottom. Not sure how it works.

I got sholes from the market last night and i absolutely LOVE it. I just have a few questions about my OC profile and a temp monitor
Right now my profile is set to
Charging:
Max 1
min 250
Sleep/Standby:
Max 550
Min 125
Power <100%
Max 800
Min 250
Failsafe
Max 550
Min 125
Do those look ok? Also what program works with Sholes to monitor battery and CPU temps?

on average what % battery is your android system using. mine usually uses from 20%-60%. On average its 40%, pretty much after normal use at any given time mine is at 40%. seem normal or a bit high? i have system panel and no app seems to be hogging or anything like that.edit: after some tweaks my android system is anywhere from 10%-40% tops.

Does anyone notice that 'Android System' battery usage is very high?
I ran a test where i displayed just a photo
Battery Indicator
3G Watchdog
Photos
Advanced Task Killer Free
within 20 minutes the results on the battery are the following:
Android System: 63%
Display: 24%
Cell standby 13%
Any thoughts on to what might be causing Android System to be so high, only them programs are running. Does this happen to your system? I notice with web browsing its about the same usage as well, with wifi and internet taking up small amounts.

I'm having problems with my Droid Incredible battery not lasting a full day; even when I don't think I'm doing a lot. Maybe its the K9 Mail applications or my stock monitor, or some other application that is using a lot of power.
I got the System Panel application to help, but it doesn't see to give me a view of what application is using up the power.

I just wanted to know if that was normal if I'm not really using my phone. I read on another post that the Android system shouldn't be using that much battery or am I wrong?

I just got my first Android phone ever (long time Apple fanboy), and it is great. Except one thing: Battery life. It SUCKS (quite literally)
"Android System" is using 91% battery. I've disabled location services, backup and so forth, but the problem persists. I've tried flashing various ROMs, including stock sense, stock GE and Android Revolution HD 21. The problem is there with all of them.

Been having problems lately with my battery performance. im finding that the battery is being used by the android system (96%) even when the phone is on standby through the night. before it used to change to phone idle and cell standby having a high percentage with the android system staying very low, but now the battery is being eaten alive by the android system and the battery is draining rapidly.. i used to get 2 days out of my battery before it needed charging but now im lucky to get just over a day..

I just got my droid x about 2 days ago, and I've gone through about 2 full cycles. So far I haven't been able to squeeze more than 6 hrs of use on it, so I installed spare parts to see if the GPS bug was affecting it.
Going through some usage information, I found that the "Android System" sensor usage was huge! Since 1hr 29min unplugged the Sensor has been on for 1hr 36min...weird.
Checking the total time since boot the sensor has been on 19 hrs. I have autobrightness turned off and I haven't come across any other posts that explain what uses the sensor.

There are a bunch of threads out there talking about battery usage and how to figure out what's draining your battery.
Almost all of them say to go get Spare Parts app from the market and check you "partial wake usage".
I did that and 95% of my partial wake usage is from "Android System".
Is that normal? Anyone who is getting good battery life (20+ hours) - what do you see in the partial wake usage?
I just checked my phone:
13h 10m 23s since unplugged
Partial Wakelock:Android System Total time: 13h 1m 44s
Is this normal?
The only widgets I have are:
Stock power control widget
Ringer Toggle Widget
I am running GDE in the background (not my default home screen).

Does moving apps to system/app folder affects battery life? I've moved Dolphin & removed the default browser. It opens a bit faster now. But I'm just curious about whether it takes up battery in the same manner to give performance.

After noticing my battery was draining quickly, and then after reading this thread, I installed Android System Info to see what was draining my battery so fast. I notice that whenever I would turn on WiFi, the phone will never go to sleep , regardless of what I set the WiFi sleep policy to. After turning off WiFi, the battery still drains heavily.
The WiFi will shut off after 15mins (if you set it to "When screen turns off" or "never when plugged in"). However it seems to keep the CPU on causing it to drain down the battery.
It would seem that whenever WiFi is enabled, the Android system process creates a partial wakelock that does not go away even if you turn off WiFi. The only way to resolve this is by powering off or rebooting the phone.
You can verify this in Android System Info by going into Battery-History-Other Usage-Partial Wake usage to see how much time the "Android System" process holding a partial wake.
I even did a factory reset on the device; and it is still happening so it doesn't appear to be any app that caused the issue. As I said, it works fine as long as I don't enable WiFi.
I already know of two users having this issue, but I'm wondering if folks having battery problems are going through this as well. Is anyone else having similar issues after using WiFi? I'm hoping someone will be able to identify what exactly is putting the wakelock on and we'll be able to find a fix for it. Other than not using WiFi at all or rebooting the phone after using Wifi.

Install different NTP server synchronizing app. I am in china, so it could not connect to the server and I get error every time, even after change to chinese NTP server - Still no luck...
Install different GPS synchonizing app, sometimes it work sometimes not and it takes too long to synchronize.
