View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems with Google Talk on my Desire for 2 days now - I can't start it up. Whenever I click the icon, it shows a black screen for about 1/10 of a second, then goes right back to the home screen. I tried force stopping the app, clearing the cache and the data and restarting my phone and checked to see if there was something wrong with my data connection, but nothing worked.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an application which is playing audio.I have some customers that use this application while driving and who also use the Google Maps application to get directions to the places where they are driving.They have asked me to change my application to pause my audio while the Google Maps application is giving them audio navigation instructions. I am trying to find out if I can register a Broadcast Receiver to let me know when the Google Maps application is giving audio navigation instructions, or if there is a way to detect when any other application has started or stopped playing audio.It seems that this type of functionality would be beneficial for Google Maps and for any type of application which is playing media, so I am hoping that Google Maps is broadcasting events when it starts and stops giving audio navigation instructions, or that there is a generic way to discover when overlapping audio sources are trying to play.
View 6 Replies View RelatedGoogle talk service starts running as soon as the phone is on, even though the app is closed (with ATK). Anyone know how to prevent it from starting up with the phone? I dont really use gchat on the phone so I dont want it to run unless i open up the app.The same occurs with google voice (which i only have set up for voicemail). This one I dont care too much if its on since at least its useful for voicemail.
View 16 Replies View RelatedGo to menu>settings>applications>manage applications>contacts storage and then delete the data. I backed up my Google contacts on line first by exporting the file just in case. (Not a bad idea anyway, this way you'll have an Excel database with all your contact in case anything should ever happen to your phone). Then resync. It will all go back in without a problem.
I noticed that the file is about 1/2 the size now and I think that's because I didn't sync up all the Facebook data back yet (no photos matching to people, etc.). but I think I'll make sure it all syncs continuously again first, then try adding back in the Facebook info. So far two of the problems were solved by deleting old data (I didn't want to do a factory reset after getting 2.1 just where I wanted it except for the few glitches).
I've got a Galaxy Nexus phone recently and since I'm not familiar with Android (ICS) at all it took me a while to get used to it.
Since I was not very satisfied with the pre-installed googleCalendar I was told to install the app aCalendar, which I was very happy with for a while. But whenever there was an Calendar alarm which I wanted to change the note opened in the old googleCalendar. And that's why I thought I might change that by disabling the googleCalendar. Yes, what I did not know at that time was that the aCalendar depends on the googleCalendar. Afterwards I couldn't make any entries to the aCalendar anymore. So I went back to the apps-list and to my horror there was no appropriate button for enabling the calendar again (why not???). In despair I went to Settings and Reset app preferences, which seemed to work for a while - the old Calendar worked again.
A couple of days later, however (I don't have the slightest clue whether it had anything to do with my former actions or with anything else) it stopped working again and I didn't find any possibility to start it again - which is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING, since I need a calendar!
HOW do I start the googleCalendar again??? If I go the app in the app-list it obviously still exists, but there is NO button to make it start again! (Why do they put an DISABLE-button there, if they don't give you the option to ENABLE it again!?)
I have a file manager installed and I see that the calendar app is stored in /system/app (actually there are two calendar files - CalendarGoogle.apk & CalendarProvider.apk). When I try to say install, it won't install and says App not installed. ?
Don't come up with things like "You have to root your mobile", because this is no option for me and I don't want to mess up with the system even more).
Galaxy Nexus
Android Version: 4.2.2
Steps to reproduce the problem:
- plug in headset
- lock screen
- press headset button for several seconds
What happened:
- No reaction, Google Now / Voice Actions not launched
- Manually unlock screen
- Long press with unlocked screen correctly launches Voice Search
What you think the correct behaviour should be:
Long press of headset button should launch Google Now / Voice Actions even with locked screen. Having to dig the phone out of your pocket in order to launch Voice Actions with a headset e.g. to place a call kinda defeats the purpose of using Voice Actions in the first place.
Adding insult to injury: long press is not broadcast to other applications because of Google Now, so it can't even be put to good use e.g. as volume control.
This was open and ignored by code. [URL]... Issue 48616
I recently had my DI replaced due to a tech issue, but before I switched over I backed up everything using "My Backup Pro".
When it backed up my contacts, it backed up EVERYONE - including 550+ people I follow in Twitter. I did not have these as visible in my People (phonebook) list, just in Twitter. When I synced with my new DI, My Backup Pro installed every contact to my People list, as the app must have thought it was all part of my phonebook. I tried to make the list invisible like I had it on my original phone, but that did not work, so I deleted each Twitter contact manually from my People list. They no longer show in my People list (though are available to be made visible from Twitter).
This did not solve the problem. Any app that accesses my contact list (even Search People) displays the FULL list which includes my Twitter contacts. There is no long-press or menu options available to hide them.
I am willing to clear my contacts and upload the list again, as they are all backed up to my Google account, but I am afraid it would sync with the server and delete what is saved there.
Any advice on how to clear my contact list of my Twitter followers, or start over with my Google-saved contacts?
What is it with some apps, for example Messaging, chompSMS, Caldendar, that keeps restarting them without proper reason?Messaging and/or chompSMS restart by themselves all the time, even when I havent recieved a single SMS for hours. Calendar does this also, and I kill it with taskiller several times in a day. I have Galaxy with Cupcake and newest firmware (H8) from NPS.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy user hits a button and kicks off a process that takes 3 steps in about 10 seconds total. I'd like to pop up Toast messages "Step 1", "Step 2", "Step 3", "Finished!" as the process progresses. I'm using the standard Java Thread interface to run the process in a thread and I've found that trying to pop up Toast from the thread causes an FC. What is the best way to report this kind of progress - step by step messages?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe context menu is not popping up on the long click on the list items in the list view. I've extended the base adapter and used a view holder to implement the custom list with textviews and an imagebutton. adapter = new MyClickableListAdapter(this, R.layout.timeline, mObjectList);
list.setAdapter(adapter);
registerForContextMenu(list);
Implementation of onCreateContextMenu
@Override
public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v,
ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo);
Log.d(TAG, "Entering Context Menu");
menu.setHeaderTitle("Context Menu");
menu.add(Menu.NONE, DELETE_ID, Menu.NONE, "Delete")
.setIcon(R.drawable.icon);
The XML for listview is here
<ListView
android:id="@+id/list"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
I've been trying this for many days. I think its impossible to register Context-menu for a custom list view like this. Correct me if I am wrong (possibly with sample code).Now I am thinking of a adding a button to the list item and it displays a menu on clicking it. Is it possible with some other way than using Dialogs?
I've noticed since the 2.2 Update (from Telus) that whenever I'm typing a message/email/etc, when I push the space bar it frequently puts a . after every word. I don't think my thumb has grown any bigger since the update so I'm wondering if this is happening to anyone else.For example if I wanted to type " Hey how's it going?" it will often come up like "Hey. How's. It. Going?" and I then have to try and retype it properly.Is it possible that the "." button programming is overlapping into the right side of the space bar?

View 11 Replies View RelatedWell I've finally had a problem crop up that I can't solve in my XTR 2.1.1: This morning upon booting up my phone, a force close applet appeared just after the lock screen, "com.google.process.gapps can't start.. blah" and the force close button. Everything seems to work fine, gmail, calendar etc. Just that annoying error message only when I reboot. A search here found that same issue in many different devices, including the Droid, but with no solutions offered other than a reflash. I'd like to know what caused it all of a sudden; this has been a very stable ROM. I know that all I have to do to make the issue go away is flash my recovery image, but I don't want to do that before finding a solution to this for future reference.

I don't believe I have any apps running that require for those 2 to be running. Excuse my naiveness. This is my first Android phone and I'm still learning. Also, I've had my phone charging for about 45 minutes and the charge only went up 2% since. I turned off wifi, syncing, and whatever else should be draining the battery. View 31 Replies View RelatedJust curious about others' experience with the headphone audio on their Desires.I use etymotic ER-6i earphones. In a quiet room I set the volume to "1" (i.e., one notch above nothing) and it's still a bit loud. That's how sensitive they are.While playing music there is a very noticeable hissing & popping (more like a thumping). This noise can be isolated by turning the volume to "0" while the music is playing.Others have complained of this, and different people have claimed their music is crystal clear. I wonder if there's a common defect to many but not all desires. or if only those of us with particularly sensitive earphones can hear such quiet interference.Maybe it's something else causing it, like the wifi? I will experiment later.
