Android :: Saving Or Emailing Instant Messages
Jan 7, 2009
Is there a way to save or email Instant Message conversations for Yahoo, AOL, and MSN? I have a lot of IM conversations in which important information is imparted, so saving them is somewhat important. Alternate, I could try to get everyone to switch to GChat.

Is there anyway to either email a string of text messages or even download them to your computer. I've tried everything aside from getting a holder for the mini SD card.

I can't figure out how to make this work. It doesn't show up as an option in notifications, although I can do it it with pretty much everything else. I get tired of having to turn on my phone like it is a damn iphone, to see if I have an instant message waiting. I get dozens a day, and really don't like that I can't simply glance at the phone and see if one is waiting. Is there a setting for this, or an app to make it work? The Instant Messaging app for Yahoo, etc. seems like it could use an update. I don't get the "so and so is typing a message" like I used to on my BB when the other party was typing. I keep interrupting them now if we have a conversation going, and then miss their messages when I'm not staring at my phone.

Ok so I use my new Evo phone constantly to chat on yahoo and AIM, usually through either the ebuddy, yahoo, or now the new trillian app for android. And until a few days ago the only complaint I had was that it logged off everytime I got a phone call, but it always logged back on, so no worries. I just figured it was a data vs. phone service issue.
Until now.
I started noticing that everytime I make a phone call or get a text message on my phone, my AIM and yahoo based chat services (happens in all of the above apps) disconnect, and they don't auto login again. I have to logout of the app and then log back in to reconnect. But wait, it gets better.
I was annoyed with it happening on my phone, so I just logged off the chat app on my phone and logged in on my computer instead. Then my phone rang. A few seconds after the call, my chat service disconnected... on the computer! I thought wow, strange coincidence.
So I tested it. I logged back in and made a phone call, hung up, same exact thing happened, chat services that I was logged into on my computer were disconnected within a few seconds of end the call on my phone. So I reset my phone, turned it back on, made sure no IM client related apps were running, and made a phone call. Same thing happened. And then I got a regular text message from a friend on my phone, and noticed the same thing happened, the yahoo and AIM connection on my computer disconnected.
How on earth can my phone be causing my internet based chat service on my computer to disconnect when no apps related to that feature are running on the phone (and no the phone was not connected in any way to the computer)? I am completely stumped!
I hope somebody here has a clue how to resolve this. I tested it over and over again with different programs on the phone (downloaded trillian after it started happening with the ebuddy and yahoo apps to see if it did it also, it did) and I used both yahoo by itself on my computer and other all-in-one type messenger programs with the same result. Somehow the SMS portion of the phone which is used for the IM clients doesn't disconnect anymore and is related to the phone calls. Its like the accounts have somehow been paired. This issue only began this weekend, prior to that everything was fine.

I have developed a simple application that on certain events sends an SMS to ppl from my address book. All works perfectly Except there is no trace of the SMS sent. I know that the SMS gets delivered - I have tested it but eventually I would like to have a trace of what was sent. I have tried giving write permission but it didn't help. Is there something special I have to do?

I have a Rogers Magic unlocked. I am in China using China Unicom GPRS. It works very well. However I want to be able to save incoming sms messages in the phone. Perhaps even in folders such as "drafts". My old cheap Nokia could do this. When I now get an incoming message I can only delete it or leave it in the "inbox".

Every message I send from Gmail on my phone (HTC One S) shows up twice when I log into Gmail from an Internet Browser. I read this: [URL] which explains that I need to set my SENT messages to not be saved on the server (so that it shows up only in the IMAP/SENT folder, and not that folder plus the GMAIL/SENT folder).
But I don't see any settings in the mail app to do that. I even looked in the Gmail app, and didn't see them either. I am using IMAP and the default mail app on the HTC.
I switched to the Gmail app and though the settings don't exist to save (or not) on the server, when I send from this app I don't get duplicate sent emails.

I have two questions about my htc Droid Eris. Is there a way to make capitals that are not at the beginning of sentences, for proper names, etc. and Is there an easier way to save text messages? I know I can e-mail them to myself, or copy and paste them into Ever note, but this takes forever if I have a lot of them to save. Is there a way to quickly copy an entire thread?

I am X10 owner but can anyone tell me how to save text messages that come in to my phone. This phone is nowhere as simple as an old nokia or SE. Also how do I forward messages that I receive. Don't mind saving them on the phone memory or SD card but need to be able to get to them and ensure they are in folders - inbox, sent items etc.

**** K9 mail. Instead of saving drafts on replied messages it will just send the draft to the person.
You can verify this by writing an email to your self, then reply to the received email.
Tap your power button to power off the screen.
Wait a few seconds and return.
You'll find you just sent the draft to yourself.

I keep getting emails from people and companies wanting to release my Android app on various alternative markets, and often they want me to send them (or upload on their website) my apk. What are the risks involved with this, how much can someone reverse engineer my app from the apk? How many other developers release their app on places that aren't the android market? Is it a fairly common practice?

I'm planning on buying a sony ericcson xperia x10 mini pro but I don't like the blueish UI I saw video of it running ADW Launcher and that looked great but, Does using a different launcher also change the UI in the texting/emailing screens? , I want to have homescreens like ADW Launcher and the texting/emailing UI should look like pure android or ADW style.
When I think about the word "launcher" it isn't clear, does it modify only the home screens or the entire UI of the android operating system

I am getting several weird emails a day from users who have clicked on the 'send email to developer' link in the Market app where either the mail has not contents or is just rubbish such as zbxnbcvnxbnb. Are other devs getting similar and is this just users typing rubbish accidentally or is this another problem with the market interface?

After owning every model of the iPhone, I bought an HTC One several weeks ago. There are *so* many things I love about this phone and I don't see going back to an iPhone until such time as Apply starts innovating again.
Anyway, there is one thing that I am having issues with. Maybe it's an HTC thing. Maybe it's a Gmail thing. Maybe it's an Android thing. I was able to email and text good quality videos from my iPhone. When I emailed them, the videos were HD quality; just as they were taken. When I texted them, the phone compressed them before sending but the quality was still excellent after compression. On my HTC One, I always get an error message saying the file size is too big when I attempt to attach a video file. The only way to text videos is to change video quality to MMS (176 x 144) which, as you can imagine, looks like shiznit.

Every time I upload a pic, text, or email from my Droid Razr the pic is stretched horizontally. The pics look fine on my phone, but when I look at them on any other device it's as if the vertical dimensions are reduced by about 25% (or horizontally increased)
I've changed all the normal settings for the default camera and played with them all, nothing works. Only thing I can do is upload pics to my desktop and use an image editor to increase the vertical size about 25%, which is very tedious and frustrating.

coming from a BB Curve, you can email yourself ring tones or email them to a friend from your device. I tried to email myself a ring tone on my Fascinate and it comes through, gives you the option to preview it, but no option to save it to the sd card. Does anyone know how to do this? I ask because I have friends that swap ring tones around and it is now impossible to do this for me.

So I recently got a Droid X which I love, but I am having a really tough time emailing photos and videos. I'm looking for something that will automatically shrink photo's when I want to email them. The iPhone does this automatically. I am constantly sending pics of my kids to my parents but at 2.5 MB per pic it take WAY too long to send (if the email client even allows it). I am aware that I can resize each and every photo and THEN send them, but that seems very time consuming and unnecessary. Is there anything that will automatically shrink photo's when I attempt to email multiple pics?

With low use - screen at almost 0, pandora for less an hour, browsing for less then an hour and some mild txting/emailing, my phones about to die. I rarely get 8 hours of use like this. Screen times out at 15 seconds, all GPS, WiFi and BT off......all the tricks and tips.
I am thinking of exchangin it, but i really dont want to have to re-install all my apps and widgets, input all my contacts and re-set everything up like I have it. ive had the phone since day 1, and have spent a ton of time tweaking it how i like it.
Is this info stored on the SD card so it can be easily swapped over to the new phone?
