I have developed some widget and what I want to attain is to put it on desktop automatically after installation without doing it manually.
I'm not understanding this whole weather app & widget thing...I'd like to have a nice looking widget on my desktop that flows with my theme. Not the one that the weather channel app has.

Currently after I download the package , nothing happens unless I click the package ,in which case the packege installer is launched !
The tomcat server from where I download the package has in the web.xml file the following code...
how to define a service that launch automatically at startup and / or when installation without having to go through "activity". I look beautiful everywhere, I do found that the functions and BindService but StartService which requires action outside.

View 4 Replies View RelatedNow that the OTA is coming, I'm guessing a lot of us will do a factory reset after update to Froyo. I'm wondering if someone can give some tips regarding what to do before and after the factory reset, including but not limited to the following:
0. how to do a factory reset?
1. to reinstall apps (is appbrain the best way?).
2. to keep personal/contact info (will Google contact sync keep everything on the phone?).
3. to keep desktop/widget setup (e.g. LLP backup and restore tips).
4. any Droid X specific quirk?
Over the past couple days, it seems like my Weather Channel app hasn't been working properly. When I move to the home screen that has the widget, it will be displaying the wrong temperature and picture (i.e. it might be showing "partly sunny" when it's night time). It just shows the temperature for the last time I opened the app.So, I click on the widget to open the app, and it brings me to one of the screens and it just says "N/A", while a green circle rotates in the upper-right corner. After a few seconds, it finally updates and shows me the current temperature/forecast (whichever screen I was in last).I've never had these problems before, up until the past few days. Usually I would just move over to my other home screen, look at the temp, and move back. It would always be [somewhat] updated by itself (usually every 30-60 minutes it seemed). Now it doesn't update until I actually open the app.Any ideas or suggestions? Or is anyone else having this problem? I am using the Droid Eris. I restarted the phone yesterday, still doing the same thing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo a colleague of mine picked up the Droid Eris and while I find the Sense UI a bit heavy - I did love the look of the desktop widget that manages favorites from dialer on screen as a speed dial. Have been searching in Market for a couple of days and don't find! Searched here and only find instructions for adding shortcuts to contacts onto the desktop (which I guess could work, but doesn't look anywhere near as cool!). Anyone heard of anything good?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an app widget that uses a Service to handle updates (as per the SDK sample). If a task killer kills the service, the widget obviously stops updating. Is there any way I can notify the widget that the service has been killed so it can attempt to restart it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a layout issue. What I do is this:
CODE:..............
Class "NoteElement" extends TableRow. The 1st row just consists of a blank ImageView as a placeholder and an EditText to enter text. NoteElement's constructor looks like this:
CODE:..............
Method addTextField() specifies the attributes for the EditText widget:
CODE:..............
So far, so good. But my problem occurs as soon as the available space for the chars is depleted. The EditText does not resize itself but switches to a single line EditText.
I am desperatly looking for a way in which the EditText resizes itself in its height dynamically, being dependant on the inserted text length.
So I have had my Evo rooted for a few weeks and the only weird thing going on is that the click widget isn't updating. I have gone to settings, turn it on, but once I return to the main page, it unchecks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTitle says it all really, the widget worked fine until yesterday, it hasn't been updating at all automatically, and when I try to update manually, it just loads no tweets and the time at the bottom changes to present, as if it actually done something but it doesn't.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried removing it and adding it back about ten times and it still won't show the weather..just says "my location" under the clock. If I click on the clock and load it, I can then click on the clock and it will load the weather screen, updated and all...but it still refuses to load it on the home screen with the time. Happened a few days after froyo update. How can I get the weather back as part of the clock widget??
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is more of an annoyance, but whenever I reply to a message off the home screen widget, it automatically defaults to the home number for that contact, instead of replying to the same (cell) number that it was sent from. If I go into the messaging app, it works as it should (replies to the same number).
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i first fired up the wildfire it had the news widget on the homescreen ready to go on BBC news. I liked the fact it automatically refreshed the news every so often. Now it has stopped working via the widget. I have tried removing and reinstalling the news widget but the widget just hangs on the message 'loading news'. I can still refresh the news headlines by going into the app but it seems an unnecessary hassle when it used to do this automatically. Why and how to fix this? The phone settings all lok okay.

But now my calendar is with google sync so I have no need to back up to my computer...that I know of? I also haven't seen any mention of a fascinate desktop? Is there one and should I be syncing up?

lately i've been receiving reports of failed updates (e.g. myTouch 3G, HTC Incredible) for my app. After the 'failed' update, they're saying they're able to launch the app only from the Open button in the Market, but not from the app icon. Is this happening to other devs too?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFollowed the instructions in http://developer.android.com/sdk/adding-components.html for adding 2.0 as components to an existing 1.6 SDK, from within Eclipse. It didn't work. Not by a long shot. Instead, it got partway through and then said that C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 empDocPackage.new01 couldn't be copied because of a lock, and similarly for PlatformPackage.new01. It said to shut down running programs, but the only program running was Eclipse, which was needed to do the upgrade. The cancel button was disabled, and the close box didn't work. Shutting down Eclipse killed it, but left C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 in a corrupted state. Restarting Eclipse showed the Android projects with errors, no SDK, and a disabled Android SDK and AVD Manager (which means no ability to rerun the install). Shutting down Eclipse, renaming the corrupted SDK directory, unzipping 1.6 again into C:, and restarting Eclipse made it as if nothing had ever happened, which is good. But it is not possible to complete the install from Eclipse, which is bad.

I am trying to do something similar to the "SpeechSynthesis Data" app in the market. After installation it automagically starts itself, downloads the speech data to the sdcard, then uninstalls itself.
Does anyone know how you can have an app automatically start after installation? I can't find any info on that.
