Android :: Moto Droid 1
Aug 17, 2010My Motorola Droid will turn on, but it will not go to my home. It will just stay on the start up screen (black background with white logo in the center).
Now this didn't happen until i decided i wanted the CyanogenMod on my phone. I used this tutorial: Full Update Guide - Motorola Droid - CyanogenMod Wiki.
So I started with the first step and I installed SPRecovery succesfully using RSDLite, but when it rebooted it wouldn't get to the home screen. Then on RSDLite it said "REBOOT MANUALLY". I waited longer to make sure it wouldn't turn on eventually but it didn't. I finally disconnected it and tried various things... to try and get it back to normal. Did i brick it? also my phone was already rooted.

Jul 14, 2010Seeing as Motorola is locking down the Motorola Droid X and likely the Droid 2, what should I replace my Moto Droid with? I've been totally happy with the phone to the extent that I tell people it's the coolest thing I've ever owned in my entire life... that's 51 years for you youngsters. I'm of course on Verizon and will stay with Verizon. I've paid zero attention to any phones other than the Moto Droids. Alas, lockdown is not acceptable. So now I have to go through the whole learning process all over again.

Jun 8, 2010I id a search, and the results were wide, varied and not to my point, so no I am asking the veterans.I would like to know how to initiate a text message on my Motorola droid. If I click the messaging icon on my home screen it takes me to gmail. if i open my phone and contacts, i get the email address and phone number displayed only, no option to text the desired contact.the only thing i seem to grasp is the call log. from there i can text or call again. seems like i can only text from call log, but if i have no call to tor from them in my log, and i want to text them, i do not know how. is there a good tutorial for texting and contacts? sorry if it seems like a dumb question, i just got my droid a couple hours ago. i am stokes because it was a sweet deal and i am not due to upgrade from my lame omnia for awhile. but i need to know how to text and initiate calls instead of just emailing everyone. the phone is sick sweet though.

A couple key features that woud make this a great application:
1) Ability to store the password (though not visible)
2) Ability to automatically redial when disconnected.
I hate having to retype my password everytime the network (verizion not work) bumps me off and it is anoying to have the vpn disconnect and not realize it until I haven't gotten any new messages for a while.
Android : Error With Barnacle & Moto Droid
Sep 30, 2010I had been using Barnacle with my Motorola Droid (upgraded to Froyo), and it connected to my iPad and laptop without any issues.Just tried it the other day, and I get a message stating "Baranacle requires 'su' to access the hardware! Please, make sure you have root access".The phone is obviously rooted (easy root), since I had been using Barnacle before.Any reason why it's not working now? what exactly IS 'su'?

Sep 16, 2010Yesterday my Verizon Motorola droid was automatically updated from Android 2.1 to 2.2. I was informed that it had been done via text message. I was not consulted or warned, only informed after the fact. It does not cause any problem in my app. I used the getSDcardPath (syntax approx) rather than hard-coding /sdcard/data..... and I have not found any other conflicts.
How are Android updates handled on devices? Always done automatically, this instance of auto update was unusual, or what?
If it is always done automatically then we MUST incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible just to keep our apps running on machines that they were designed to run on. (it is difficult to anticipate all future changes!)
Previous to this automatic update, I was thinking that we should incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible so the app would run on future Android versions. (this option does not require knowledge of the future.)
Android :: Call Last Number Dialed On Moto Droid > 5
Nov 30, 2009Can anyone call the last number they dialed in less than 5 moves on Motorola Droid without having that contact set as a direct dial shortcut on their Home screen?This is after screen has timed out and phone shotcut is not already open. I currently have to>press power>swipe or use pattern>press phone>press call log> press phone icon next to name. If the answer is no, people really need to think twice when they say how the phone is so easy to use. If it can be done quicker, please show how.

Things to note right off the bat: - Motorola Droid 2.1 - Windows Server 2003 laptop - ADB has worked perfectly with this for ~ 8 months My work gave me a HTC Evo to do some development on. I installed the HTC drivers, ADB worked fine, did my development and now I am done with the Evo. The problem is my Droid no longer works with ADB.

Nov 26, 2010Jus a little background: I have a launch day Moto Droid. Still love it, but it does have some lag issues that are becoming increasingly annoying. I think the issues are caused by either the fact that I'm rooted running one of the first Froyo releases, the fact that the Swype keyboard isn't really meant for this phone, the dropping of the phone (which also cracked the screen, though that doesn't bother me) or some combination of the above. Regardless of the cause, I'm ready for a new phone.
I've been out of the loop, but since I started back in, I've noticed that Gingerbread is on the verge of being released and one of my biggest concerns is buying a new phone that's already outdated. Whatever phone I get, I want it to be able to handle Gingerbread with no problems.
I'm leaning towards the Droid 2, because I like having a qwerty keyboard plus Swype. Will the Droid 2 be OK with gingerbread? Or, should I wait until phones are released that were designed with gingerbread in mind? How lon 'til such phones will be released?

Jun 30, 2010Every time I type in a number and then go to 'Add To Contacts' my phone NEVER saves the number. if that person calls me the correct info will show up but for me to call them is impossible... because they are not on my list. I have searched everywhere for a fix for this. All the correct display option are checked (for gmail i have EVERYTHING checked now)
This drives me absolutely insane. Ive added the same contact several times... and when i hit 'done' they don't show up. PLEASE HELP
