Android :: Painting Over Analog Clock In Android Application And Setting It
Sep 28, 2009
I'm working on an Android Application for AutiPlan, which is a web-based planner tool for people with an Autism-related disorder.I want to create an application which shows the current activity (planned item), together with a clock. (AnalogClock) On this clock, I want to paint a red background from the current-minute to the minute at which the activity ends. To clarify, if it is now 12:00 and the current activity ends at 12:15, the right-top quarter of the circle that makes out the analog clock is red. This has to be updated every minute, so that it is clear how much time is left for the current activity. (The red section gets smaller each minute). Also, (question 2) I want to use AnalogClock to display a small (stationary) clock with the time that the next activity starts. Can I set the time of the object so it displays a specific time?

I need to create paused analog clock. Since I have never done any graphics/drawing before I am customizing Analogue widget defined in the core/java/android/widget.
The problem is when I create the class in my project following are the unresolved references: mContext com.android.internal.R mRight mLeft mTop mBottom
I know the most likely cause is com.android.internal is private and I need to use public but the problem I do not know what the public equivalent is. I have tried substituing it with android.R but that doesn't seem work either.

Is there a way to get the 2.1 Analog Clock without rooting? I don't think it comes with Launcher2, but I was just curious because I like the look of it.

Does the small analog clock (#2 in the HTC clock widgets) still have issues with it showing the wrong time? Or is it just my phone? It shows the right location, but the time is 6 hours off

I'll be getting a new Eris in a couple of weeks and am very excited!I have a question that is kind of random, but I have always liked the very cool 'flip' animation on the analog clock in the Sense UI when the time changes.I was watching this vid that compares the three 'Hero' phones and I noticed that the only phone that showed an animation was the original Hero. The other two did not actually flip when the number changed. Can the flip animation be turned on and off, or does the Eris simply not have a clock animation for some reason?

I want to switch from Droid Mod to Cyanogen, but start on a clean slate. I want to be sure that SU, root, busy box, and everything else included with initial rooting will be completely gone from my phone. It's my understanding that doing a factory reset will not accomplish any of these for me. Any help would be great, also do I have to worry about my over clock settings. Ideally I would hope that the processor will return to a normal clock setting when root is removed. Is this true?

I'm trying to develop a simple application to add a caption into a image, but I have a problem.
The app is simple: I click on a TextView, an AlertDialog pops-up with a EditText, I insert some text, click at "ok" and it sets that text as the textview.
Then comes my problem: I click on a save button and it saves the image with that caption on my sd card. If it's a short text, everything's fine, but on text's that have more than one line it shows everything on only one line. So, if it's a long text, instead of breaking it according to the image's width and continuing into a new line, it just keeps going off the screen.
I'm using canvas.drawText to do it, but it doesn't support line breaks so I'm pretty lost about this.
Is there another way to do this that supports line break? Or a way to break the string into a new line and then use drawText?

So this weekend while checking out the new Wegman's grocery in Leesburg, my almost 4 year old daughter asked to play with my iPod Touch. I didn't have it with me cause it has a cracked screen that I'm in the middle of fixing so I thought I would hand her my Droid to play with. I had put a couple of games and "painting" apps on one of the homepages that I designated for her, but after only a couple of minutes, she didn't like it. Are there any good games/drawing/painting apps out there for kids? On the iPod she had games like "Anisays" (spell the animal on the screen with drag and drop tiles and it makes a sound), "Animatch" (like memory, flip tiles to find a match and it makes a sound), and several decent drawing/painting apps that had pull out drawers where you could change colors or pencil size. Most of the stuff in the free area of the market seems kinda cheezy and with terrible graphics.

I have compiled AOSP 4.1.2 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi (GT-P7510) and have encountered an interesting issue with the soft keyboard. For some strange reason, when I touch a text entry field and the soft keyboard appears on the screen, it seems to paint incorrectly. rather than spanning the entire width of the display, it seems to be "squished" over to the left a bit and there is maybe a half-inch of empty gray space showing in the display to the right of the keyboard. However, the thing that makes it more interesting is that the actual digitizer mappings for the keyboard seem correct. As a result, I have to press somewhere between O and P for example to get an O to appear, trying to press L does a K or I, etc. The problem does seem to lie with how the UI is painting the keyboard onto the screen.
I've tried installing an alternate keyboard to see if it was specific to LatinIME but it doesn't seem to be...no matter what keyboard I use, the issue remains.
I've checked in my device and vendor trees used to build the ROM, and can't find anything that appears to be setting anything related. Is it a bad lib maybe, or something else that needs to be tweaked in the source or kernel? I'm fairly new to this and haven't encountered anything like it. I've successfully built AOSP 4.0.4 and never saw this type of behavior.

I have an application that runs fine. However, if i set the alarm clock's alarm, it happens this:
1. The alarm is triggered 2. My application gets dimmed and the clock appears on top of it 3. When i close the alarm, my application CLOSES TOO
When the alarm is dismissed, my app receive the events onClose and onDestroy.
I already saw other apps that survive after the alarm is triggered.

I recently started playing with what people call "light painting" using my cell phone and tablet, and it can be fun... but, what I think would really be awesome is if I could pre-load an image, and have it 'paint' it as I move the device around. This is basically identical to the other light-painting apps, but none of them seem to offer this functionality.
I can just imagine some trippy picture I could make with this

Despite similar question was asked, I have differnet situation: My app consists mostly of a background Service. I want to start external activities and get results back.I see several options:Create dummy Activity and keep reference to it for using its startActivityForResult. This consumes quite a lot of memory, as we know. Use Broadcast Intents instead of Android's results infrastructure: ask client activities to broadcast their results before closing. This kind of breaks the idea and not so performance-efficient. Use Instrumentation directly - try to copy code from startActivityForResult into my Service. Use Service interfaces - serialize and add AIDL connection to the Intent for starting an Activity. In this case Activity should call Service directly instead of providing result. The third approach feels closer to Android for me, but I'm not sure if it's possible to do - Service does not have its Instrumentation, and default implementation seems to always return null.

I'm in desperate need of a calendar app that actually works properly. On my old phone, I just had everything set and I would get an alarm until I acknowledged it. I can't seem to find anything like this for my android phone. Can someone recommend an app that I can use which is basically set it and forget it. I want something that will notify me similar to how an alarm clock would rather than just a one time notification that I may miss.

I am facing a problem with a clock widget i made. I want the user to touch the clock and launch the clock app on the phone. this is the code...
I made the above so the when i touch the clock opens the alarm settings. But is not universal.
I found out that on droids with 2.2 does not work. There must be a better solution than creating an if statement for every android phone flavor i the world. Plus i don not know the package names for all.

I'm looking for an app that sets specific actions (like changing ringtones, volume of notifications, e-mail notifies on/off) according to the SSID/availability of WiFi networks nearby. Pretty much like "locale" does for position, but tied to WiFi availability. The idea is that I can turn off e-mail alarms/notifies when I'm at home/work where I have a PC anyway (WiFi of home/work is detected) while automatically having them turned on when I leave the house (no wifi anymore).

I have created several files in a res/values/styles.xml file.
Here's one of them:
CODE:..............
I can apply the style to a single element in the xml by setting the style element like this:
CODE:.................
So, that works, and I notice that change. But what I really want to do is use the style above to apply to my entire application. I thought I'd be able to use this line:
this.getApplicationContext().setTheme(R.style.BlueOnWhite);
Before the super.onCreate of the first activity. But it doesn't work. Should it?

I am developing an Android App and would like to have a video file (mp4) bundled inside the .apk so that when the app is launched I can play a short intro video. Unfortunately I'm having trouble figuring out where in my project folder I should place this video file, and also how to access it (the path to the file).
I am using videoView.setVideoPath();
