HTC EVO 4G :: Contact Primary Setting Not Working

Sep 7, 2010

Some Contacts defaulted to the Contact Details as a primary. I have tried changing the primary to the call number I want for the primary. It does not seem to work. Please tell me if I am doing this correctly. I press the people button on the home page, then I press the photo of the Contact I want to view. Then I press the Index Card Icon. I am now looking at the Contacts Details. I hold down the phone number I want to make primary. It never gives me the Make Primary Option. If the Contact shows no Primary, I can set a Primary. But if the Contact already shows a wrong Primary, I can't change it.

HTC Desire :: Messaging And Setting A Primary Number

Oct 3, 2010

I've been using the Desire with Froyo for quite some time and have 2 problems with it:

1) When I go to people and press send message, the phone instead of composing a message my phone starts dialing that number.

2) In my Favorites even though I have selected a primary number to dial, the phone keeps calling a different one on the list which was set a long time ago.

HTC Incredible :: Setting Up Primary Number In Contacts

Sep 7, 2010

I thought that there was a default setting to change all numbers in Contacts to list a particular number (mobile, home, work, etc). I would like all of my contact's primary numbers to call home numbers and not mobile numbers. However, some of them are set to Work as primary while others are set to Home. How do I change this? Thanks

General :: MK802 Android PC Dongle - Gentle Shutdown App

Jun 13, 2012

I have a MK802 Android PC dongle on its way. It has no on/off switch so powers up when it is given juice and is shut down by pulling the cable. This is the same as pulling the battery and is a pretty violent way of doing it.

Is there an app available that does a gentle shutdown and allows Android to clean up before it goes? BTW, apparently the device comes already rooted.

Android :: Permissions Related To Dev - Alarm And Setting The System

Apr 10, 2009

I understand that userland apps on android cannot set the system clock. Wanting to know more about how the security mechanism is set up for the system I did some digging around in the source code.

/dev/alarm is opened R/W to set the system clock using SystemClock.setCurrentTimeMillis.

How the permissions work to determine whether or not an application has permission to set the clock.

I assume it's just a user level permission, and the write bit for /dev/ alarm is only enabled for the "system user" and not the "userland user" applications run under.

Android :: Setting An Alarm - Occur Repeatedly - Hence Using AlarmManager.setRepeating

Apr 10, 2010

In my android app, I'm setting an alarm that I want to occur repeatedly, hence using AlarmManager.setRepeating().

I don't want to keep track of whether the alarm is set myself (sounds like a bad idea that's prone to fail at some point), and there seems to be no API support for checking whether a particular alarm is already set for a given Intent.

Hence, I am pessimistically resetting the alarm each time my app activates:

alarmManager.cancel(pendingIntent);
...
alarmManager.setRepeating(..., pendingIntent);

Question: is calling setRepeating() idempotent i.e. do I need to explicitly cancel() any prior alarm or can I safely just call setRepeating() and be done with it?

Android :: Detecting Android Usage Inactivity And Setting A Future Alarm - Intent To Trigger

Sep 15, 2010

I have a repeating alarm setting, I have the activity being launched, the piece I'm missing is having this triggered after x minutes of inactivity.

I'm considering keying off of SCREEN_OFF in a service and then setting an alarm and canceling it on SCREEN_ON, does anyone have an intent or other suggestion for this. I've considering polling for tasks, all kinds of pieces but I'm stuck.

Requirement:
- App launches, alarm is set to relaunch app after 5 minutes, user exits/app exits after one minute
- alarm triggers, detects phone is in use, resets alarm to trigger in fives minutes
- if phone is idle relaunches app for one minute

Android :: Requesting For An Alarm Application

Jun 7, 2010

I'm looking for an alarm application. I would like the alarm to play a podcast rather than sound an alarm. That way I can wake up to something a bit more interesting than a monotonous beep!

I've tried 'Appalarm', but can't see how to make that work with a podcast. 'News Alarm' is close, but I don't want to dismiss the alarm before I hear the podcast - the whole point is that the podcast will rise me from my sleep gently. Bit like a very simple 'old skool' radio alarm that you can buy from ebay for $1. Makes you wonder why my $500 phone can't do the same thing... (technological progression etc.)...

If i snooze alarm 1, alarm 2/3 never goes off. i thought all 3 would be seperate, but it seems only 1 can be active at a time. unless im doing something wrong. this happens on the default alarm clock and, better alarm clock.

Android :: Alarm Manager Broadcasts Canceled When Application Killed?

May 15, 2010

I have two BroadcastReceiver registered. When the app is closed they both fire at the appropriate times and do the appropriate things. If the app is closed then killed (say with an AppKiller), the receivers never receive their broadcasts, and nothing happens. Presumably the same thing happens if the parent app is killed due to low memory, so how do I ensure those broadcasts are fired/received. The API states that even if the app is killed it should fire, does anyone else have experience with this situation? If it helps my manifest is:

<!-- receivers for AlarmManager -->
<receiver android:exported="true" android:label="Shift roster updating calendar."
android:name="com.skooter.shiftroster.backend.service.UpdateCalendar" >
</receiver> <receiver android:exported="true" android:label="Shift roster checking alarm."
android:name="com.skooter.shiftroster.backend.service.SetWakeup" >
</receiver>
and nothing esoteric is going on in the AlarmManager/BroadcastReceivers
