Motorola Droid :: How To Make Free Calls?

Dec 28, 2009

I am going to be spending a little time in Canada for work. I know that if I turn my phone on it will connect to the network and start downloading email, texts, etc. Before I leave for canada I want to set up my phone so that when I turn it on up there, it won't try to get my e-mails. I also want to find away to stay in contact with my wife through the wifi. I do have google voice, so is there a way to use that to talk to her? The hotel does have wifi so I need to be able to turn off 1x, 3g, 2g, or whatever the phone uses to connect to the network but leave the wifi on. I would love some suggestions on how to keep in touch with my wife without getting charged for it. When I am in the hotel I will be using skype to talk to her through my laptop, but I wont be in the hotel during the day.

Android :: Inbound / Outbound Calls / Which One Free?

Jan 25, 2010

Just a quick question: I've read confusing information about this on the Internet. I don't know why I can't seem to find a clear answer on this. Maybe it has something to do with Google buying Gizmo5 and now the rules have changed. I think a lot of the articles I read about it now are outdated and aren't correct anymore. In any case, can someone please tell me which type of call, inbound or outbound, is free? When I say free, I mean which one only uses your data plan and doesn't count against your cell minutes.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Make Number Private When Make Calls?

Nov 10, 2010

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'. This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call. Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.

General :: How To Make FULL Backup Of Android Phones

Mar 2, 2014

I have a little experience using computers from late 1995 Year, and from year 2000 I am using also Linux from time to time, and very rare but it was a delight freeBSD. I have no experience on Android and MacOs.

Now, I all my family (father, mother, girlfriend and I) changed the phones on Android which is Linux based, but for ARM processors.

Anyway, I have played a little with Android 4 x86 on my laptop. From, my point of view, a Android Smartphone is just a little computer like an raspberry pi / pandaboard / beagle board. So, a mini computer with an Arm processor running a very small and tiny operating system max 8 Gb, when on my gentoo install I had been using about 30-40 Gb. I know, the size can be affected by the compiling flags but anyway.

Now, on all my system I had, from my experience I did 2 Backups, like this:

My laptop is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 1, and the External Hardisk number 1 is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 2.So, as it is a good practice to have a backup handy, I keep 2 backups in 2 different location in case of hardware failure / water flood etc. Some of the files I need are backed up in the cloud, on the internet.

I use to make IMAGES of the Operating System partition, and of the mbr , and of the partition table, with software like Acronis True Image, Paragon, DriveImage XML, Norton Ghost, Clone Zilla.

When I had to do data recovery I did an Acronis "sector-by-sector" approach image of the hardisk, and I recovered files from that image.

I assume that maybe I will need to get root on one or two phones, and one phone need's to be unlocked from the carrier.

Before doing this I would like to make a full backup of the phones.

1) How can I make a FULL backup of the android phones? In this moment my mother phone is a samsung galaxy mini2 Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 s6500 and mine is Sony Xperia L

2) a) If I will "unlock" the phone from the carrier (locked on orange, but i wish to use also Vodafone, I tim, I wind, moviestar, o2 etc)

b) If I will "root" the phone to gain administrator acces on it

After step A) and B) if I will restore the original backup, the phone will be "locked" back to Orange, and "un-rooted", or it will be "unlocked" and "un-rooted"?

3) Instead of having an hardisk like computer have, I guess the smartphone is using an "usb-stick/sd-card/ssdhdd"-like memory for storage of the operating system, so how can I see the partition table, the mbr, on the device?

General :: Free Tethering For Rooted Phones?

Oct 25, 2011

I read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature.

Android :: How To Make Calls To Each Other Over Wifi?

Aug 5, 2010

My girlfriend is headed overseas next week. We're trying to figure out how to use our phones to make calls over wifi. She has an Incredible and I have an Eris (both on Verizon). It looks like we can't use Skype because it requires Verizon network coverage to work. It looks like Gizmo5 with Google Voice may have been an option at one time, but Google shut that down by acquiring Gizmo5. So my question is, is there any way that we can make calls to each other over wifi?

General :: Chinese Dual SIM Phones - Recording Calls?

Mar 31, 2012

most of the last Chinese Android Dual SIM Phones have the ability to record phone calls on both lines. It is usually necessary during the call, press the soft key "menu" and choose to start recording.

The file - usually in .amr - is saved on the SD, in a path that is not modifiable and with a name that generally only contain the time and date of registration, but not the called number.Understand very well that with these assumptions, this function is practically useless. The problem is that with these telephones is almost impossible to find a third-party software able to operate automatically and well on both lines.

Android :: A Simpler Way To Make Calls From Calendar

I recently switched from a Blackberry to an Epic and like the phone very much. However the Blackberry had one feature that I found very helpful which the Epic either doesn't have or I just haven't figured out how to do it and it is this: When using the Blackberry I would put info into the Calendar which included a phone # and then when going to it after saving it, it would highlight the phone # by default and all I had to do was push the phone symbol to make a call. Thus far w/ the Epic, I need to write down the phone # on a piece of paper and dial it. Any advice?
