Android : Need App To Change Fonts Size / Spell Check

Dec 26, 2009

This is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc. However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is impossible to read the small font size in emails or text messages. 1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client. 2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller. I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these issues will eventually be addressed.

Android :: How Do I Change Size Of A Check Box Title?

Nov 24, 2010

I'm writing a preference screen in in xml for my Android application. My issue is that some of the titles of the preferences are too long and will not wrap the page. Consider my example:
<CheckBoxPreference
android:title="Language Detection (BETA)"
android:defaultValue="false"
android:summary="Automatically decide which language to use"
android:textSize="15px"
android:lines="4"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
Maybe I'm missing something but I have tried using number of other properties with no positive results. I have tried android:singleLine, android:lines, etc., and none of these seem to effect the title of the preference. Also is there a way to scale down the size of a CheckBox title?

I just got my first Android phone (N1), and like it so far. There are a few things that drive me up the wall, though. One of them is the 'autocomplete' (not sure what it's called): where Android suggests words as you type a text message. Great when I'm typing English, not so great when using other languages. Can this be turned off?

HTC EVO 4G :: Spell Check And Suggested Words

Oct 22, 2010

I'm a new Evo user. I loved the auto correct options on my BB. I like the auto correct of the evo, however the suggested words that pop up really distract me and slow me down. When I shut this option off, though, I can't seem to find any way to spell check or auto correct any words in texts, etc. Is there a way to keep the auto correct feature, but hide all the suggestions?

HTC Droid Eris :: Spell Check Auto Corection Features

Feb 11, 2010

I woke up after a nap this afternoon (you know, after coloring but before recess ) ... and i had received a text and i went to reply and my auto correct didnt know the word 'you' 'eat' and a few others and i am sure there are many more i will find. i do not know how to fix it. i guess i will just have to work through it and add the words it doesnt know.

But also if i type 'lol' then by default 'LOL' will come up if i press space unless i manually go up and select 'lol' in the little word list predict thing <--yes, that is the actual HTC given name , this is also the case for many other words and if i add the word to the dictionary it still might not use it automatically. even if i spell it right and it is in the list it may use another word when i press space.

KitKat 4.4 :: How To Stop Auto Correct / Spell Check When Typing URL In Hangouts

Jan 19, 2014

When using Google Hangouts to text on my Nexus 5, every time I enter a web url the string is spell checked and becomes un-clickable. Example:If I type: "whatismyandrioidversion.com" into a txt/sms chat using hangouts, the string is spell checked and auto corrected to "what is my android version.com".

So, then I have to go through a very annoying process of deleting the spaces between each word and fixing the url before I send the message.

HTC Eris :: Change Android System Fonts - Root Req

Aug 9, 2010

How to change the fonts on your rooted Droid Eris. I'm not sure if this works for all Android phones, so backup your phone before proceeding. This DOES change key Android files, so be careful. If you brick your phone, it's not my fault.

First of all, go to this website and find a font you like:

1001 Free Fonts - Download Free Fonts for Windows and Macintosh

The file you download should be a .zip, and when unzipped be in the format .TTF. Copy the .TTF file to your SD card. I suggest SDCard/Fonts/. After finding a nice font, download Type Fresh from the Market (free). Also, pick up AndExplorer (free) while you're there. Type Fresh will allow you to change your fonts, and Andexplorer is used as a handy file explorer.

Run Type Fresh, and it will display all the system fonts that Android uses. Touch DroidSans, and it will display a window using AndExplorer. At this point it should request superuser permissions; allow it. Find the folder with your fonts, select a font, and press okay. Press menu and select apply fonts. Allow it to reboot your phone when it asks, and afterwards you should have a nice new font to make your Eris even sexier.
