I am a complete iphone guy but love the android equally considering I am a linux user But I love the simplicity of the iOS vs the android. Android still had some ways to go but I think I am going to get the evo 4g. My Q was, I love the way apple implemented switching of open apps on the iOS, whats the way of doing it on the android? Is it holding the home button as well?

How do I jump between running/open apps? Yesterday I was playing spades and chatting with a friend on google talk. It was terrible. I could not jump between the game and the chat. I had to hit home button, then menu then Google talk, to go back to spades I could hold the down home button and jump back to spades from the popup window. I could not do this with google talk from spades because google talk was not in the recently opened apps popup window.

How is it going to be different with Android? Is it a true multitasking os like Symbian or is it not, like the iphone? How do I switch from one application to another? Is there a button which shows all running apps? I read comments that, on some phones, switching from the web browser to another app and then back to the browser causes the page to reload from scratch. Is this still true or was it a limitation of older versions? Is there a task killer? I read very contradicting opinions on this, but I must say I do not understand why I should leave open an app I don't need, and how much an app left open uses system resources (battery life and RAM): I would have thought that its impact on system performance might have been minimal, but still > 0, right? Then why not close it altogether? Or am I missing something here?

I ask Voyager how to get somewhere, then go back to home, and put my HTC Desire to sleep. In the middle of the night I hear a voice saying "Go 100 yards and turn left." so voyager has an exit option in the menu. But what about other apps? They must surely be using up memory and battery power..?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my wife an S3 for Mother's day and tonight, sat down to transfer all of her data from her S2. I used the Smart Switch app and along with Contacts, pictures ect. I included her apps. Problem is not all of them switched over. I figured i'd just re-download them again from Google Play Store from the S3, however the apps "appear" to be installed. I've check to see if the missing apps were selected as hidden but there's nothing there. I'm unable to uninstall and reinstall again. Her Gmail app isn't even visible anywhere on the device....have I missed a step in doing the switch from S2 to S3? Should I be signing her out of Google Play on the S2, and how to go about signing out of Google Play Store.

I've got the premium edition of Titanium, and up 'till now, every time I try out a new ROM, I have to re-load all my apps/data. It's not terribly inconvenient - I just do the batch 'restore apps/data' option - but I still have to 'confirm' the re-loading of each app, and it takes forever. It give me an 'install' prompt for each app which I have to press. Is there a faster way of restoring all my apps/data?

I noticed that when I listen to music on my headphones and whenever I go into my homescreen, the music player would pause and not play the song anymore. I've tried 2 music applications (Apollo and Shuttle +) and it kept on doing the same thing on both apps. I've tried resetting the phone but the problem still persists.
I've searched and found out that a lot of people have similar issues and all they had to do was upgrade their music app. I've tried it with shuttle + but it didn't really work.
I'm brand new to this world of mobile Internet.I feel like a kid in a candy store with all the neat apps out there for my new 3G.I was wondering, among all the endless apps out there, is there an app which allows me to open other apps simply by saying their names? View 4 Replies View RelatedI seem to be realizing more and more every day that android actually really sucks at multitasking. What is up with that? The pre makes me rather jealous in that respect. Sure, it's usually not that big of a deal but it just should be better. It seems like all the apps I don't want to keep running do, and the ones that I do, don't. Any game will keep running after I'm done with it(and cannot be closed without the use of a 3rd party task killer - that's just pitiful) but if I want to look something up while I'm writing an email or a text message I have to save it as a draft. That just doesn't make any sense. The least google can do is include a task manager. If I didn't have advanced task manager, my phone would be laggy as hell because about half of my apps start when I start up my phone for no apparent reason and keep running. I can use advanced task manager and that's all well and good but I shouldn't HAVE to. Personally, this seems like a fairly big flaw to me. I love android and I'm sure I'll stick with it but I'd really really like to seem something similar to the "cards" idea with the pre. I love to make fun of the iPhone for not being able to multitask but that's almost hard to do with the state android is in right now.

Unfortunately, the honeymoon is over and I've been trying to do some productive things with it (outside of playing Robo Defense that is =p).I've been having problems opening different types of documents. My two biggest problems are with Quickoffice and PDF Viewer.When I launch Quickoffice, I get the "Open file" window which takes a few seconds to load and a few files begin to populate in the list. After just a couple of seconds, I get a force close message stating: Sorry! The application Quickoffice (process com.qo.android.htc) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" This same thing happens with the PDF Viewer as well.However, I can use a file manager like Linda Manager to browse to a specific file and then open it within the program just fine. The problem I'm running into is this: I stopped using Advanced Task Killer because people are saying that it's not healthy for your device, which makes sense to me as it seems like you're using CTRL ALT DELETE to close a program every time, and that just doesn't seem like a good idea.I understand that this isn't windows and it works completely different, but I still stopped using it because it seemed a bit harsh.After reading the above article I realize that this is how Android itself closes apps, by "brutally killing them" as the article says.If this is how Android itself closes apps when it needs more memory, why are task killers not a good idea?
If somebody could dumb it down for me so I can understand I'd appreciate it, as I'm a total Android n00b.
So instead of pushing the multitasking button, I want to be able to scroll to one of my 5 "homescreens" and have one of them set as the multitasking view.
Ideally I would only like 2 homescreens, one with my apps and widgets, the other being the multitasking screen. Anyway to create this?
I like how in winmo , you can click the top right icon area and pull up all open apps to quickly switch between them. with android, i have to hit the home screen, swipe left (usually one time) to find my app and "re-open" it again. it's a hassle. maybe android doesn't have this option, maybe it's just a winmo thing, but i'm still getting adjusted from winmo > android.
