View 3 RepliesHow do I jump between running/open apps? Yesterday I was playing spades and chatting with a friend on google talk. It was terrible. I could not jump between the game and the chat. I had to hit home button, then menu then Google talk, to go back to spades I could hold the down home button and jump back to spades from the popup window. I could not do this with google talk from spades because google talk was not in the recently opened apps popup window.

Since Android is a multitasking OS wont those mini apps continue running?
I noticed that if i dont use the app to kill running apps after i exit them they are still running in the background is this normal for the Android? I am coming from Pre so not sure if they are killed when exited.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an EVO and I have a problem with it. I downloaded the app Advanced Task Killer to take care of apps running in the background. However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up. My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android, previous Crack Berry addict here. On the BB I could load Google Maps (including Latitude) to keep my position updated on Google Latitude online (I use it when I go riding on my motorcycle to give my wife a way to check if I'm still moving (= not dead)). Even if I shut down Maps, I could elect to have Latitude run in the background, so it would still update my position. How do I do this in Android? When I 'exit' Maps, it shuts it down, including Latitude, as far as I can tell. Can Android run Latitude in the background, or do I need to keep Maps open all the time?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used a number of task killers and I am still confused how the N1 deals with apps running in the background. I will kill all apps and then either not open any more or maybe open one and all of a sudden 5/10 mints later, some apps appear to be running again in the background. How can this be if I haven't activated them?

things like Skype, amazon MP3, City ID ... etc. my battery has dropped significantly since 2.2 and i think it's because of these many new apps running in the back ground. anyone know how to stop these apps from running?
if there is any ways to stop running some apps in background (like poweramp) and force it to just run as I manually open it and after closing stop running in background.
View 2 Replies View RelatedApps like Corporate Calender and Alarm clock. I have deleted them and they still continue to show as running every time I use Advanced Task Manager. They are not showing on my home screen but must be running in the background, right? How do i permanently get rid of them?
View 8 Replies View RelatedLately I've been noticing that some apps are running in the background when I've not opened them. Footprints, Voice dialer, Messages (I use handcent), Peep and Music are the ones I've noticed and (coincidentally) are all apps I don't use. I only notice them when using Advanced Task Killer and have to kill them. It's a new issue so is it possible another app I downloaded recently is to blame? Am i maybe just insane?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyone using this? Sure it has a price, but this thing isnt using ANY battery life on my phone... I thought these apps running in the background (chat apps) were supposed to destroy battery? I leave this thing on nearly 8 hours a day, and hardly see any battery drain. The UI could use a few tweaks and themes, but for reliability its awesome!
View 4 Replies View Relatedsince upgrading to 2.2 i noticed the amount of background running apps is doubled on my phone, i have advanced task killer and it kills every 30 mins but still it runs everything all the time and its rediculas that muct be killing the battery some awful.
View 32 Replies View RelatedI have checked for related threads to see if this was formerly addressed. It's been discussed generally, but neither specifically to the CDMA HTC Hero or the procedure I'm going to summarize below:
If you press:
Home --> and hold it for a couple of seconds
You get pictures (icons) of the last six apps you've run.
I was in the Sprint store today and the rep who also uses the HTC Hero told me there's an App that stops them, which can be downloaded at the Android Market.
It's called " Kill-Something? "
It's an App we can download that will force these off and perhaps save battery power, or at least stop them from running in the background.
Questions
1) Anyone know the name of this App?
2) Is it useful? Have you had any experiences with it either positive or negative?
3) Any other tips (in layman terms please) on stopping Apps from running in the background on Sprint HTC Hero?
My htc hero can't seem to keep apps running in the background, save for a few, such as the engadget app. when I press home from the internet browser or the PDF viewer and try to get back into the application, the internet browser will resend info to get the page I was on back and the PDF viewer will restart just like the browser and end up in a PDF file I wasn't in before. It seems that the applications restart themselves when I get out of them. Also, I just downloaded the 2.1 update for TELUS, so I'm not sure if thats to blame.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I'm just switching from the iPhone and I am getting used to how the Droid pushes out it's notifications. The iPhone obviously didn't have apps running in the background and it completely relied on push notifications. I am trying to figure out what programs I can kill in Advanced Task Killer that won't block from notifications coming in. Is there any way to tell?

According to my "What's using the Battery" function, my radio has been on for 4 days, but if I select the Radio App itself, it is switched off on the screen. I've tried the "Force Off" function under Apps Settings, but still the Battery-use screen shows the radio as running. Is there a way to quickly check what apps are running in the background, and - preferably - easily switch them off?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if I'm not alone in this: I have a rooted Evo 4G LTE running Jelly Bean/Paranoid Android 2.13. I'm running into an issue with running audio apps like Google Play Music and Doggcatcher. Basically sometimes if I'm playing something and I switch to another app, a few moments or minutes later the audio dies and the audio app gets killed. I can tell because when I enter back into Doggcatcher, the loading screen starts up as if it wasn't running before. Is this a case of over aggressive task killing? Is there a way to prevent this at all?
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor those of you running the leaked 2.1 for the Sprint Hero, can you tell me if there is a native task manager type of option that allows you to see all the background apps that are running? If there is such a thing, how do you access it? Does it allow you to switch between running apps? Does it allow you to kill the app (like a task killer would)?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...
I am considering getting a Motorola Milestone, which should ship with Android 2.something.I have a Nokia, and I really like the multitasking of the Symbian environment. How is it going to be different with Android? Is it a true multitasking os like Symbian or is it not, like the iphone? How do I switch from one application to another? Is there a button which shows all running apps? I read comments that, on some phones, switching from the web browser to another app and then back to the browser causes the page to reload from scratch. Is this still true or was it a limitation of older versions? Is there a task killer? I read very contradicting opinions on this, but I must say I do not understand why I should leave open an app I don't need, and how much an app left open uses system resources (battery life and RAM): I would have thought that its impact on system performance might have been minimal, but still > 0, right? Then why not close it altogether? Or am I missing something here?
