Android :: Launching Another App Thats Installed On Phone?
Nov 1, 2010
Writing a basic application. One of the features I'm interested in trying to do would be to launch another app, INSIDE the app already running. Eg. have an app with 3 menu options, 1 and 2 do certain tasks as part of this parent app, menu option 3 however launches another app thats installed on the phone. I'm unsure if this is possible?

I'm testing a simple hello app and it's not launching on the emulator. There's no errors and the console is this:
[2010-11-16 21:26:06 - Hello World] ------------------------------
[2010-11-16 21:26:06 - Hello World] Android Launch!
[2010-11-16 21:26:06 - Hello World] adb is running normally.
[2010-11-16 21:26:06 - Hello World] Performing com.hello.HelloWorld.HelloWorld activity launch
[2010-11-16 21:26:09 - Hello World] Launching a new emulator with Virtual Device 'VirtualDevice2.2'
The emulator launches and the screen appears with the lock and my app doesn't start. Tried to unlock and go to launcher to look for my app and it's not there. Anyone can help me on this one?.......

What is the name of the App that kills the Sprint crap from launching when you boot up your phone. Tired of the Sprint Nascar and Football Apps launching.
I tried doing a search on the forums and a google search but couldn't remember the key words, author or name.

Has anyone had an error along the lines of "(application) cannot be installed on this phone.", where the application name is in place of (application). This is on cupcake, I have my version minSdkVersion set to 3, and I've had no problems prior to this new version. Runs fine in the emulator, so I'm stumped?

I just rebuilt an application to use some new assets, and now I get this message on my phone when I try to install it: "Application not installed" "UnitTests could not be installed on this phone" Anyone know what's going on? I've checked and I've definitely got "Unknown sources" ticked on the application settings. This is just a self signed application to run my unit tests on an actual phone (the emulator doesn't cut it for real testing). I tried creating a new keystore, and they didn't help. What on earth? The only thing I can think of that I've done recently is accept a google security update. If they've silently done some other updates that prevent self signed applications running, I'm severely upset.

My question about android service is about its distribution. My requirement is that suppose i have developed an Android Service which provides some kind of news updates. Any application can use it's API's to get news updates. Now my question is how will i distribute my Android Service ? 1. Will i simply put this in Android market and if any android application developer wants to use its API he will download this on the phone. 2. What if at run time the application try to use my Service and Service is not installed on phone, Will Android system try to download that service from android market?

when I had tried to install any application for the first time , it gives me following error as. D:Pramod Backupandroidandroid-sdk-windowsools>adb install pramod.apk 77 KB/s (8628 bytes in 0.109s) pkg: /data/local/ tmp/ pramod.apk Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS] But there is no pramod.apk file is present in phone , but if I install the application using -l -r as D:Pramod Backupandroidandroid-sdk-windows ools>adb install -l -r pramod.apk 38 KB/s (8628 bytes in 0.218s) pkg: /data/local/tmp/pramod.apk Success It will installed application succesfully. Why is it so? and when I tried another application to install as D:Pramod Backupandroidandroid-sdk-windowsools>adb install -l -r Final.apk 38 KB/s (8628 bytes in 0.218s) pkg: /data/local/tmp/Final.apk Success then previous application (i.e here pramod.apk) not shown in phone.

I have a new phone, that came with android 5.1 (Ice cream sandwich) and it came with a trial of plants vs zombies. I enjoyed the trial and tried to upgrade, and it just gave me a network error. So I went to the google play app store, and bought the full version there. But now I have two copies installed, one that is still the trial, and one that is the full version. How I can remove the trial version from my phone?

Someone upgraded my app, and receive this message "The linked program is no longer installed on the phone" What did I do wrong to cause this? The app and the upgrade were signed with the same key as far as I know. Some of the builds were on a linux machine, and other were on Windows. Could that cause this message?

I'm trying to display a list of all the Input Methods that are currently installed on the phone.Does anybody know how to accomplish this? I don't care how I have to do it, I just need to be able to produce a list of Input Methods as they appear in the phone's Language and Keyboards menu and then store the user's selection. I thought maybe I could just use the InputMethodManager to launch the standard Input Method selection menu and then see which one the user picked by looking at which IME is currently selected after the menu closes, but as far as I can tell there's no way to see which IME is currently selected in the system.

I have an interesting problem I just can't seem to get through. I hung out yesterday in the IRC during office hours in hopes to find someone, but I guess the Google guys are swamped and couldn't make it.
We have an app that we have tested successfully across 10 different devices on 4 different networks without a problem. However, our app will not work on ANY Nexus One devices, tested across 4 different carriers. The work flow is like this:
1. Via the browser, visit a URL to download the apk file OTA.
2. Install app. App shows up on the device.
3. Click the icon to run the app. An error occurs saying "Application is not installed on your phone"
At this point, we can see the app is trying to run. LogCat shows the following interesting bit:
CODE:...........
The funny thing is, I have android.permission.INTERNET use-permission in the manifest, and no other devices seem to have a problem with the permissions set there.
WHY this behaviour is isolated to Nexus One devices?

I'm kind of new to Rooting and ROMs but I keep getting the same problem while installing ROMs using ROM Manager. I flash and then I install the ROM and everything goes well until the boot up screen. It gets stuck in a loop of the Droid and Droid Eye animation (For over 10 minutes) and I have to restore it. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong? I am using the Droid with Froyo, rooted using Easy Root.

I'll start with my history with Android. Got my X on launch day, ran the first leak .zip and reverted back to push the OTA onto my phone without a single problem (when the leak initially came out I saved all the appropriate files needed to revert before they were blacklisted). I have never rooted on any version of Android. Mainly because I just wasn't familiar enough with the know-how and I'm not going to Verizon crying because I bricked my phone claiming insurance replacement. SO - heres the run down, I've been working on PCs since 92, mostly Microsoft based, I'm very familiar with anything up to XP Pro, which I run on most of my machines (until I get a hold of a Windows 7 disc - I don't like Vista at all) I'm also very familiar with DOS commands when OSs used to be DOS based. I want to really get into Android and their operating system and learn a lot more about how it all works, after owning a Storm this really is a large step. I've always been running LP and Fancy Widgets to create the Incredibleist UI (the only thing I liked about the Dinc). I've become pretty familiar with navigating around with Astro, and terminal emulator but as you all know only so much can be achieved when not rooted.
