I got my HTC desire yesterday and today Iran out of memory. I installed maximum 10 apps (news and stuff only) and most of them I cannot transfer (app2sd) to memory card. I see that I have 147mb and only 20 available. What can I do?

View 11 Replies View RelatedThe last update to File Manager included an applications manager too. It enables you to backup* and uninstall applications.
On the applications list 'Maps' is in there twice, both 4.3.0 installed on 2010-07-06 and both 4102KB. Would I actually have two copies installed? I'm not that keen on the idea of uninstalling one to find out for obvious reasons! this seems to put them onto the SD card which is quite useful
I am getting a Desire next week. How many apps you can install on the internal memory without 'rooting' it? I'll probably install a lot of apps when I get mine next wednesday (I already have made a list of over 30!) and I would really like to avoid rooting it as it will probably void the warranty and I am not sure I could do it anyway - even after reading the step by step guide a few times over. How many apps have you all managed to fit in before getting the memory low message that some have reported?

Eventually they all 'turned up' but one, Soundhound had reinstalled twice and both times the paid version.
View 4 Replies View RelatedGot my nice shiney Desire HD yesterday. First HTC phone, first Android phone. Impressed on so many levels, but also have some questions and one problem.
1. How can I remove apps that are pre-installed like soundhound, talk, stock. The remove option is greyed out.
2. Can I create a sub folder in the menu tree and move like games into one. I have created a sub folder on the home page, but cant rename it from 'folder'
3. My phone picks up WiFi signal at home everytime I am in range. Does this mean WiFi is always on, searching. My experience from my E71 showed me this kills battery. I seem to struggle to get more than 10 hours life from the battery, what gives.
Is that a lot? Also, related question: when we get Froyo, can we move/install/run apps from the SD card?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was wondering though how people handle being so close to the limit. My problems seem to come when I update my apps. Despite no reason for space increase when I update them I regularly lose space. Today I update a couple of apps and it pushed me over the limit, so I had to go in a find a few I don't use and remove them. That left me with supposed about 15.5mb left, but now it's gone down to 14.95, despite no apps being added, so I can see a warning coming soon. One thing I have noticed is that for some apps removing them completely, and then added them back again seems to gain you some space.
It unfortunately is just blind luck in finding ones that will happen for, or at least it seems to be so to me. Also very annoying is that the space you clear by deleting apps doesn't seem to correspond with what you get back. I just cleared supposedly 1.5mb of cache from the web browser, yet I only got 500kb of space back? Obviously I've been through all the apps and looked for any that I can clear the cache for. One thing I would like to know is why the low space warning has to come at ~15mb? Seems to be I've always got that space just wasted, which is a pain as there are plenty of 200-300kb apps I could add, using just 5mb of the space.
I have a 4fb SD card fitted yet I keep getting a message saying I'm running low on phone storage space. Can I manage this on the SD card?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a stock Eris and the other day my sdcard went corrupted. I learned this from when I got the new swype beta email and went to download the .apk. It told me a sdcard was required (I had never taken the sdcard out of the phone to being with). Anyways I brought it to verizon and the guy said it was done and gave me a 16gb card (8 was in there previously). So now I was able to download the .apk file; however when I try to click on it to install it says I can't because there is not enough space on Phone.
Now I don't know how much for it is required. But I have 14gb on the card available and 25mg on the internal phone storage. Now since uninstalling swype and trying to download I haven't added any more apps that would take up additional space. I've actually uninstalled a few, so I should have more space than I did before this whole thing started.
I'm fairly new to the forum but I've read up on some past threads that touched on my topic but I never really found a straight answer. I'm hoping this thread will help, but in my experiences with technology...We may never get a straight answer/ solution. I've followed some threads on the "low on space" icon. I've gone through and deleted lots unused apps and I've cleared many of my caches.
While deleting apps i noticed that more then half of the apps on my eris are apps that i haven't downloaded and/or came pre-loaded on the phone. I understand that some are essential to the functioning of the phone (like being able to sync with your pc, download apps, etc). But i've noticed apps like "footprints" and the amazon "mp3 store" that I really have no use for. While managing apps there is no option to delete or get rid of these apps...is there a way to safely do so? or do i really have to live with having very few apps on my phone? (because i really don't have many that I have actually downloaded myself) Sorry for the lengthy post...i want to answer as many questions as i know how before i start getting responses.

I have just done the 'one click root' to my desire (here), and after installing leeDroid's Froyo rom (2.0c) I have lost root access to my phone. This means I cant do a Titanium Backup restore to get all my stuff back. Anyone know of a quick fix? or do I have to roll back and start again?

I was just looking using Root Explorer and there are some massive files in /data/fota. What are they? I have 3 files, fota.status, (Size 36) and fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2 both size 62914560. That seems like a lot, I'm guessing it's measured in bytes so that'd be 60 megabytes or so, so 120 total. Are they safe to remove, seems like the results from the over-the-air update.

However today I've read something about the HTC desire that it suffers with a lack of internal memory and this limits the amount of apps available you can store on it (because you cannot store onto SD card) Does the wildfire have the same problem as this, and if it does will it be rectified with the release of froyo?, or is there anyway around it? It seems a shame to have all these apps available on the Android Market but only a limited space to store them on.

The "free space" number that is in ABout Phone, or in many many system tools type apps is misleading, because that is a combination of the app space and the working memory space. Since Linux loads that up to be more efficient, it will almost always show some relatively low number (30-40MB in my case) as long as the phone has been turned on for some time. In reality, I only have 35MB of apps installed on my phone, so I have plenty of room, it is just hard to tell. So far, the only place I can find that info is on the web-based side of appbrain. Is there any on-phone location where I would be able to get that info? (Short of actually adding up all my apps' sizes by hand?)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just went to the market this morning to see if there were any updates in the downloads option, but didn't see any, which is odd since I haven't updated any apps in 2 days. So I checked appbrain, and at least two of the applications I have installed have been updated. There's either something wrong with the market, or my phone. Is anyone else having this issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot several issues on my Dinc when I booted this morning. Here are all the symptoms I see:
1)None of my downloaded applications are recognized as installed-I only see the factory-installed apps in the app launcher
2)Settings->Accounts&Sync gets FC (com.htc.settings.accountsync)
3)Settings->Applications: While I do see all my downloaded apps in the list, the icons don't load for them, and when I click one, I get an FC on com.android.settings
4)Phone storage/SD Storage numbers look good
5)When I boot, the notification bar shows "Preparing phone storage", followed by "Preparing SD Storage" as it normally does, but the Sync icon only flashes for a second.
I'm running stock 2.1, no root...just a normal every day phone user. Was reading articles with the Time Magazine app prior to shutting down for the night. Had plenty of battery left, so I didn't even plug it in.
Since rooting and using custom roms, I've been using the apps2sd facility the this offers, however If I want to install certain apps to the phone memory rather than my SD card, is it possible to do this at all? I've not yet been given the option of doing this at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy new android phone comes with a few pre-installed applications that I do not particularly need. I have some very basic questions
1) Because they are already there they seem to have a special "status", compared to all the other apps that I download. When I try to backup/restore using AppBackupRestore, those "special" pre-installed apps fail to restore. I cannot "uninstall" them from Settings/Apps. Ideally I do not want to have to re-download the whole world after a factory reset, and I depend on the AppBackupRestore to keep the latest copy of the app in local memory where it can be re-installed from.
2) What happens if I delete one of these apps from the system/apps directory? Will the app then magically disappear? Or will I need to do a factory reset in order to get rid of it?
3) Does it really matter if there are many pre-installed applications, if I do not use them? I mean they do not use any CPU so is the gain only cosmetic ?
4) Assuming I can delete any apps I want, which apps *must I not* delete? Are there any special applications that I will not be able to download from Google Play
I lost my Desire - gutted, but it's insured so hopefully I'll have a replacement soon. Anyway, I want to know if there's a way to get back the apps that I had installed on it - will the marketplace recognise it's me and offer me all the ones I had installed, or do I just have to remember which ones I installed (paid and free) and go and find them again? If so, is there a list recorded anywhere in my google account? In hindsight, a kinda nice thing about the apple app store is that you get a receipt for everything you install, so that's kind of useful.
