Android :: Is Idea Protected By Copyright?

May 31, 2009

If I publish a paid application with very good idea and concept. And realize later that someone already publish an app with this idea. What will happen?I understand that this may be difficult to answer.Perhaps I'm not posting this seeking for absolute answer, but for recommendations or a place where I can find more information and learn more about this kind of stuff.

Android :: Is Idea protected by copyright?

Android :: What's With All Copyright Infringement?

Mar 29, 2009

I'm just curious if anyone has noticed the 10 or so PAID applications that are soundboards for characters or movies. This is very clearly illegal. It's one thing to make one of these apps and offer it for free, but to sell someone else's work without permission is against FEDERAL Law.I highly doubt any of these devs has licensed to use Family Guy, Harold and Kumar, etc. That's copyrighted material, and it won't surprise me if Google ends up in a lawsuit brought on by TV/Movie industry over it.I realize it's all in fun, but it's still illegal, and because they're selling someone else's copyrighted work, it won't take long for someone to notice and send a C&D.

Android :: Logo Copyright / Trademark

Jun 17, 2010

I was wondering if it is legal to use the Android logo (the green droid) for my own company? Can I say take the Android logo and slap a Superman S on its chest and use it as my company's (SuperDroid) logo? What if I made my own logo which resembles the Android logo, would that be OK?

Android :: Way To Get Copyright For Specific Color Of Green?

Jul 1, 2009

I am writing a game, and in it I would like to use the Android image (green robot as shown on the Google Groups heading and other Android literature) as a background, and the android green color as the color of my game objects. I would also like to use the name 'Android' in the name of the game (which will be something like 'Android-Ball' or something like that). I would like to be able to charge for the game on the Android Marketplace. Is this allowed? Would I have to pay royalties? Is there a copyright for the specific color of green? Is the name in copyright?

Android :: A Good Idea For Collaborative Code Development

Nov 24, 2009

You know how google docs can allow you to share a doc to be edited real time just like a wave or anything else can?I think that idea should be extended to the code creation process so that coding can be done on the cloud as well. This way, depending on a system like mercurial to do a complex set of updates wouldn't be near as much because if two users were to edit the same document at the same time there would be only one submission.it would work just like this for 2+ workers on any single document! I think it's a great idea!

Android : Are 3rd Party App Stores A Good Idea For Free Apps?

Nov 2, 2010

After publishing a free app to Android Market I have received numerous solicitations from 3rd party app stores to publish my app such as handster.com and mobango.com. To date, I have not pursued that and my app is only available on Android Market.

I would love to hear some developer opinions about this: Is it better to stick to Android Market only, or does it make sense to publish your free apps in as many stores as you can? What do you think are the pros and cons to each approach?

HTC Incredible :: Idea For Concert App

Jun 24, 2010

I went to the Dave Matthews Band concert in Columbus Tuesday night, and it got me thinking up some really cool app ideas.the first one would actually be possible: I was in dire need of another beer but my friends and I were in the middle of a very large crowd on the floor area, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to find them again. What if there was an app to save a group members cell number and locate them by gps on your return trip? they would probably have to enable location on their phone. you could have a couple dots much like google maps that show each of your locations.the other one is impossible most likely but it would be awesome. an app that tells you which beer/food line is the shortest, the prices, and its location.any devices out there wanna take on that first app idea?

Samsung Captivate :: Question About Possible App Idea

Jul 24, 2010

I would like to ask since the one thing I am not to fond of about this phone is a lack of a notification LED if someone could make an app that would light up the bottom rows of soft keys to replace the LED missing?

I was sitting here thinking of an idea that would give some sort of indication that there was some sort of notification that needed my attention. Is this even possible? I know the screen and those buttons are lit by different means.

I think it's a good idea as that is my only beef with this phone.

Samsung I7500 :: Better Battery Indicator Idea

Nov 14, 2009

I've come up with an idea for a battery status indicator application. On my old Windows Mobile phone I had an application(abcPowerMeter) which could show the current power consumption of the phone. Like this: If we can get this on the Galaxy, then it can be coupled with the existing battery status information to give a pretty good estimate of how long the battery is going to last under current load.Instead of showing a notoriously unreliable and counterintuitive green bar the phone would show something like this in the tray.

HTC Incredible :: App Idea For Automatically Bump Charging

Aug 24, 2010

To get the most out of your Incredible's battery, you have to bump charge. To bump charge (I think) you charge your battery until the light turns green, then turn your phone off, and wait until the light turns green again. I think this is a hassle, especially when I want my phone ready to go when I wake up (and I don't have time to bump charge).I was thinking that an app could be made to automatically bump charge the phone. All the app would do is turn the phone off once the battery initially charges to 100%, so the phone would keep charging once off, and get a real 100% charge.I am not sure if an app like this could be made, but it would be useful! The only problem I see is: after bump charging does your phone loose charge for every second it is plugged in, or does it stay at the true 100% until it is unplugged? If it loses charge while plugged in after bump charging, then this wouldn't work.

Motorola Droid :: Is It Ever A Good Idea To Wipe SD

Jun 12, 2010

I was going to try a new ROM today, but since my last 2.2 update returned an "error" about not having an app2sd partition (and my SD card is getting somewhat "junky" anyway), I was thinking of just wiping the entire contents and reformatting prior to flashing.I made a mirror copy of my current SD contents to my computer (just in case), but I'm not sure if reformatting the SD is a bad idea.I'm also not sure at which point during the entire re-flashing process I should perform the reformat. Can anyone shed their opinion on if and when to do something like this?

Android :: Protected Blocks On Home Screens

Jun 17, 2010

I have an HTC Incredible and I noticed what appears to be protected blocks on one of the home screens. The home screen has only a couple of programs on it that take up 1 block. When I tried to move the location of one of the programs, I noticed there is a 1x2 vertical strip that is blank that is just to the top right of center that won't allow me to place anything. There is no reason why I shouldn't since there is plenty of room on the screen. Could there possibly be something hidden there? All i see is the background and touching that region does nothing.

Android :: App Not Showing In Market 2.1 Not Copy Protected

Jun 13, 2010

People are having problems finding my app (Advanced Map Live Wallpaper) in the Android Market. It's free, not copy-protected, and the only requirement is SDK level 7 or above. However, it's invisible on some Nexus 2.1 devices, a lot of Droids (2.1), and a smattering of other phones. The fact it disappears seems to be completely random, and it's driving me nuts because I don't know if it's a misconfiguration by me somewhere or a Market problem.I know there's been an issue for copy protected apps, but I can't see how this applies to me.

* Copy protection is off * It's set to list in all locations

* It's free * It's not localised ("Localized to: unknown")

Second, if so, any idea what maximum period of time would be "safe?"

Android :: How To Install Copy Protected .apk File In An Emulator?

Jan 12, 2010

I want to hide some info (encryption keys) in a private area. I know there are a lot of threads on the topic and from what i can tell - it basically comes down to - there's no security just kidding. It seems like the data you have in your private area /data/data/com.company.product/files is only accessible to your application, so it would be sufficient to store anything (like encryption keys for example) in just plain text files there if you wanted. the big drawback of doing this though is that a "rooted" phone would be able to access that area -- therefore, no security. does "copy protection" solve this problem? if I "copy protect" my .apk bundle, I know that that makes it so that it cannot be seen by "rooted" phones in the Android Market, but what about if the .apk bundle got out in the wild (i.e. posted on some website, not via market). Would a "rooted" phone then be able to grab and install the .apk file (and ultimately gain access to the app-private area)? Could someone install the copy protected .apk file in an emulator?
