Android :: Infinite Reboot Cycle Caused By Choosing Remote Location Picture As Background

Nov 10, 2009

Device: Motorola DROID

I just wanted to post an issue I found. I downloaded ES File Explorer and was browsing a shared folder of pictures on a desktop. I selected a picture and, with the file explorer's picture viewer, browsed the next few pictures sequentially. I found one that I wanted to use as a background, so with a menu option, I chose set as background. The device froze, and started a never ending reboot cycle. I had to hard reset the device and wipe it with the POWER + X button option. I am not sure if this is an ES File Explorer problem or a problem with file transfers initiated some way other than copy and paste, or just simply trying to assign a remote path as a background image location, but I thought it necessary to post. I have sent this to the author of the file manager as well.

Android :: App Causing Crash/reboot Cycle

May 20, 2010

So I have 2 reports now of my app causing a crash/reboot cycle the user can't always break from. I cannot reproduce this on my phone, and I am wondering what might be causing something like this? Would running out of memory or something cause this? Because I can't reproduce it, I can't look at the logs or anything.

Has anyone experiences anything similar? For reference, my app runs a foreground service which utilizes the AlarmManager. It starts automatically on boot_completed (which is probably why the cycle happens). One of the users who reported this, said it only happened when they plugged their phone into a PC.

Samsung Vibrant :: What's Up With Battery Getting Hammered After Reboot / Power Cycle?

Aug 21, 2010

So I was out on my motorcycle and had about 60% battery left on my Vibrant.Figuring I wasn't going to need the phone for a few hours I powered the phone off, calling myself saving battery.When I turned the phone back on I was totally surprised that the battery was down to 38% immediately following powering up.This happens every time I power the phone down-I lose about 20% consistently.It also happens when google maps shits itself and either freezes the phone (necessitating a battery pull reset) or causes a spontaneous reboot.Is this normal? I've had my phone for a bit over two weeks (so out of my remorse period) and my besides this my battery works and lasts rather well, considering how much this phone has going on.

General :: How To Disable Reboot To Avoid Tracking (Google Location)

Mar 6, 2014

So, I've checked 'settings->apps->running' and I see that when I restart my phone the OS turn on Google location Manager, Google Play market, and some other thing.

I would really like if when I turn on my phone- no element could use my GPS unless I specifically tell it to run, then stop the usage when I tell it to close. Part of the tracking prevention, I imagine, will be done by disabling those services which are required for proper part functioning.

I suppose my questions are:

1) What services/elements should I disable?
2) How do I prevent them from running on startup?
3) How do disable parts of android to run on start up, in general?

Also I'd like to note that I would prefer not installing any apps or root the phone.

Android :: Background Practices (Interact With Network And Check Location)

Aug 27, 2010

My application needs to perform some activities in background (like interacting with the network and check the location and some other stuff), having or not the main activity visible. Which is the best way to achieve this? Should I write a service for each kind of job? Or just one service that performs everything? I am aware that I will need to launch threads / asynctasks in any case because the service runs on the same thread of the UI, but maybe having several services is a more clear and readable structure.

Check Location In Background Service

Mar 1, 2012

I wanna background service which is looking every minute for the location.

So I created a service and created a broadcast receiver connected to the alarm service.

That works generally fine.

Now I wanna check the Location in that Service, I have a Service which is looking first for "gps" and if not available then for "network" location. That works fine!

Now my confusing case: If I am at home and connected to the WLAN the Location is found every minute and give me an notification in android bar all is fine!

But if I am on street and go around it doesnt work. The Service is just running when I touch the screen and make it active, then the service starts and gives me the location.

Why the service just works at street when I have the screen active? And at home in my WLAN it works always even the screen is not active.

Samsung Vibrant :: Changing Default Picture And Video File Save Location

Mar 20, 2010

I am new to this phone and so far so good.Working things out and getting it set up like I want it. I have two photograph widgets on one of my screens, one set up for newly taken pictures and one set up for newly shot video. The only problem is, I don't know how to change the default video save location. I am using the astro file manager and have seen that all videos and pictures save into a file named DCIM on my SD card. How do I change this to make it save pictures and videos into different files?I have made a different file for my videos and manually moved them into the folder but the phone is still saving new videos to the same old default place.

Android : Stop An Infinite Animation Applied On An ImageView?

Oct 12, 2010

I have an ImageView on which I have applied rotate animation. Since I want the rotation to go on continuously, I gave the repeatCount as infinite in my rotate.xml

android:repeatCount="infinite"

In onCreate(), I load the animation and start it.

Animation myAnim = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this, R.anim.rotate);
objectImg.startAnimation(myAnim);

When a button is pressed, the rotation must stop. Hence in my onClick(), I called clearAnimation().

objectImg.startAnimation(myAnim);

My simple doubt is whether it's the right thing to do, to stop the animation?
I assume clearAnimation() is to loadAnimation(), but there is no stopAnimation() corresponds to startAnimation().

Android :: Choosing Verizon Phones

Nov 18, 2010

Some of you may recognize me from having decided on going with the EVO. Well, it turns out my girlfriend gets a better deal on handsets with Verizon's network. She can get Droid 2 Global, Droid Incredible, or Droid X for free with $25 "all you can eat" lines. They are a bit more pricey per month than sprint ($5), but with free phones that seems like the network to go for. Her line doesn't require a contract either (although mine will).She is pretty much decided on the Incredible I believe. She likes the size (moving from iPhone 4s), likes the fact that there is no slide-out keyboard, and likes the nice quality of the screen.I am torn between an incredible and the Droid X. The big selling feature of the Incredible right now (since most specs are really similar) is the fact that Best Buy will have them for $1 at the black Friday sale. The other two phones will each run me $150-$200 out the door.

I guess I just wanted some incite on what you all think would be the better/best choice. The worst thing about the incredible for me is the tiny battery in it, although I know we can go aftermarket. My nunderstanding is that a 1600 mha battery wouldn't increase the bulk, but add a little weight, which is fine. Also, the incredible doesn;t ship with an SD card (I don't think?), though it comes with 8GB on board, so I could get an 8-16 gb card for our music for far less than the difference (of $150-$200) for the other droids.

General :: Choosing Android Tablet To Work In Car?

Nov 2, 2013

Trying to figure out how to get a working Android tablet to play in my car's USB port. Apparently the SGS3 Easy UMS app works, where you are able to play music through the car using that app, as it has a sim card slot to fix the issue where usually the car will say device not supported, as is my issue with the Nexus 4.

I was trying to get a Nexus 7 tablet installed in my car, without redoing all the stereos etc. to get USB sound, but it seems that may be the only way to go. I really want a USB connection, and not Bluetooth / Aux, as the sound quality is inferior...

Car: Chevy Cruze 2012 Tablet of choice: Nexus 7, but may go with a Galaxy Tab, if I'd be able to use USB that way.

Android :: Choosing Between Requery Or Firing The Query Again In SQLite

Jun 19, 2010

Have been using a SQLite database, Theres a situation where i have a list which displays all the "name" field data of a table "table1". Now i have a button to insert data in "table1". The list is populated using a simple cursor adapter which is passed a cursor "cursor1" populated with the data. "cursor1" is prepared using the SQLite query - "SELECT * FROM table1". Now the moment i insert data, i need to update the list too.

My question is- will the Adapter sense the database change automatically (i guess not)?
using cursor1.requery() is correct or should i use cursor1 = db.query("table1", null, null, null, null, null, null);
