View 4 RepliesI am developing a few mobile apps for different platforms including Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android and Symbian S60.I want my mobile apps to have the capability of checking for updates before starting and in case a new version is available, prompt the user to upgrade. Moreover in certain cases (like security patches), the user must be forced to update or the app won't work.Surely I can cook some code to achieve the task but I was wondering if there are already existing framework to serve the purpose so that I don't have to re-invent the wheel and test all over?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to run the Sprint app for NFL mobile, but it says I need an upgrade. It then downloads an application from a site I don't know. When I tried to launch it (I know, don't launch unknown things), it blocks the installation because I'm still set to the Sprint/default setting of only allowing applications from the Android Market.Has anyone else tried this or have any concerns? It seems a little odd to me. On my previous phones, Sprint upgraded their apps and I had to install everything from them. Since this phone uses the Market, it's obviously a change in procedure.
Should I change the setting to do this one install, and then go back? Or should there be some other approved way for Sprint to distribute updates to their own apps?
After the last S.E. rom released upgrade i have also upgaded the last release of Spb Mobile Shell from ver 3.0 to 3.5.5.
1) The Spb MS panel selector disapear.
2) From the Home desktop is impossible to select or open other mask or menu. s very difficult also, shutdown the phone because the home desktop (Spb desktop like the WM standard dektop) prompt ahead and close everythink.
It seem that continuosly load the hom page.
The top icon flash.
Sometimes after power down and up, all work fine.
Spb support say the the problem in know but is not in the application upgrade, they think the problem is in SE rom upgrade.

I hope this has been tested for enough viewer capacity because it sure will be tested by every Sprint TV customer. I am watching Lafayette v. Lehigh game live. I can definitely wait for Sprint to prepare another app to replace NFL Mobile Live for before the Football games start. Hope this is the beginning for a long season of good news from Sprint, Android 2.1 should be around the corner.

Network: Base - a brand of e-plus, Germany
Taskiller Used: None
Issue: Switch on tethering OR mobile hotspot ->mobile network dies
I've installed Froyo on a T-Mobile branded Desire. After the update, turning on USB tethering leads to immediate loss of mobile network - it just turns itself off. Same goes for the mobile Wifi hotspot: turn on -> for 2 seconds, it's working -> mobile network drops off. Moving into airplane mode and back brings back the network, but tethering is a goner. With 2.1, USB tethering had worked. I'm on Base, a brand of e-plus. I've talked to their customer services, they say Base absolutely supports tethering.
Recently I logged into GMail with my browser instead of the GMail app, and discovered what I've read before elsewhere... that the GMail mobile web page seems cooler and better, than the app.
So, I've been thinking... which is better? Is either better? Can they both be equally good?
Either way, it occurred to me, it's interesting that all the Android blogs fall all over themselves almost weekly to come out with various "Best X Android Apps" articles, but I don't think I've seen any articles about the best mobile web pages for Android (or any smart phone for that matter).
I understand the money is to be made in apps, and that not much can (yet) be done with the web that you can do with an app (until we have workable Flash?) but surely there must be some great mobile sites out there that are better than, or equal to, apps?
I'm appealing to all of you then to make your suggestions for Best or at least good mobile web pages to use on our Android phones. I'll be looking around myself, and will possibly turn the results into a blog post of my own.
Here are a couple of starters that seem to be better than the app versions:
- Gmail: nicer interface, quick access to GTalk and Buzz as well as Calender, etc.
- Evernote: www.evernote.com/m Evernote has a really good mobile web site in case you don't want to download the app.
Has anyone found an app that will tell you when a call is mobile to mobile on your existing network?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?
Is it possible for an app to upgrade itself? I am trying it but it doesn't seem to work. My app downloads its upgrade, starts the upgrade/installation process which finishes successfully but when I start the app its still the old one. When I installed my app normally I was seeing "Not granting permission android.permission.INSTALL_PACKAGES to package <package name>" in logs. So based on another thread http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread. I installed the app in /system/app folder so now there is no error message but result is still same. Do I need a separate installer app to upgrade my app?

Phoned T-Mobile, woman asked technical and came back to say it wasn't supported anymore and I couldn't get it. However, just tried now and its working but only on 3g and not WiFi.Thinking it's because my broadband WiFi is blocking access as it is o2.

So Im thinking it senses the phone has been rooted. If the answer is yes. I have 2 more questions. 1. Will the flash reset my entire phone reseting everything Ie contacts and such or will it just reset the android. And the other is where can you get an original virgin 2.1 or pos a 2.2 rom thats has not been messed with and is safe safe.

Any one upgraded his SDK please let me know what to do.
