Android : Can A Webpage On Mobile Browser Ask / Get Users Location From Phone?

Jun 25, 2010

Is there any way that a webpage can make a request for the users location from the android / iphone device ? Since all I need is the users location, I am trying to figure out if there is anyway I can bypass developing a native app and use some nifty html5 call to just get the users location so all a user would need to do is visit my webpage and provide permission to access his/her location?

Android :: Detect User's Location From Webpage Opened In Browser?

Dec 24, 2009

Visiting www.google.com on the Android browser (or even with an android spoofed user-agent), presents the option to "Share Location". When clicked, it uses the GPS/Cell phone towers to figure out the location. I tried the google.loader.clientLocation but that only works using the IP address. Is there a method to tap into the Android OS and access GPS data from a regular web application (and not an Android application) similar to the way Google does? [Perhaps Google uses the Google Gears app on Android to access this data.]

Is there any way to make the browser or any browser to be able to double click a web page. My work website requires double click but double tapping obviously changes the focus in android. Yes, the work website is a joke but that's besides the point.

Someone was able to write a program for iphone to do this but they won't for android. They are fanbois so no dice.

Android :: Some Users Can't See My Location Limited Droid App In Market / Why?

Jun 27, 2010

I have published an app on Android Market which is limited to Norway. I'm able to find and install it myself from Market, as can several other Norwegian users. A colleague (Android 2.1) and a friend (Android 1.6), on the other hand, cannot find it. They both have phones bought in Norway, with SIM cards from Norwegian providers.

Why are some Norwegian users able to find it, and others not? How does Google determine the location of Market users?

The app works on Android phones with v1.5+.

Android :: Slingbox / Slingplayer Mobile Users

Jul 29, 2010

Seeing as I typically would only use this to watch NBA games on the go, I wasn't exactly head-over-heels to see the Slingplayer release AFTER the NBA finals ended. Well, the new season is a few months away and so I'm getting in some preliminary research done.If my primary usage of the slingstuff is going to be watching NBA games on the go (mostly on my phone on 3G, and maybe a little bit from my notebook but not often) which Slingbox should I get?Basically I don't want to pay extra for features I won't be able to use via the Android client, but I don't wanna go too cheap and end up with a crappy picture because of it. I'd like to be able to make out the different players at the very least

Android :: Intent To Open Users Preferred Browser

Jun 28, 2010

I've been trying to find out how to create an intent that will open the user's preferred browser without specifying the URL. I know how to open it by giving a specific URL like this:Intent intent = new Intent();intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW); intent.setData (android.net.Uri.parse ("http://www.google.com")) ;context.startActivity (intent);I don't want to open the browser to any page in particular, just the set homepage or whatever page the user was on last. I've thought about looking up the homepage set within the app but you can't do it with the default Browser app because it is private. Does anybody know of a way to do this?

Android :: Browser Redirected To Mobile Sites

Oct 14, 2009

OK so Android comes with this great web browser built in, but I've got a problem with it that is driving me nuts... there is no way to change the browser agent string so that it may be detected by websites as a full-featured browser and deliver desktop web page content rather than mobile browser content (You are redirected to ESPN's mobile site for example when browsing to www.espn.com). In Browser Settings I have Mobile view unchecked, but this does not affect being redirected to mobile content websites. I know some people probably prefer the mobile formatted content, but I wish it was at least an option so I could get to the true desktop version of a site if I wanted to.
