I would like to know if it's possible check connectivity in android without having a Context, because the thread i have running in background doesn't know the context. if there's no way, is a best practice passing to the thread the context?

I have a ListView with a ContextMenu, it has one CheckBox (the CheckBox has android:focusable="false") and one TextView per row, but you can hide the TextView in the preferences menu. After doing that, the CheckBox wasn't registering the ContextMenu, so of course, why not register For Context Menu(cb) and unregisterForContextMenu(getListView())? Yes, i did that, but then, when when i call the delete command of onContextItemSelected, the app crashs. For example if the user plugs in the cable and it is in sync/charge mode it performs a certain action, if the user then changes the phone into USB Memory Card mode another action is performed and if the user then disconnects the cable then the another action is done.
How can I check got a successful Internet connect (Wifi/3G/whatever else) I already display an error to the user if they don't have Wifi connection but how can I make sure then that the user does got 3G connection if they wish to connect to use the application without the Wifi connection?

And I've also created login.java. Hardcoded Login page:

So I want to know how I should apply the database connection on the login.java. Should I insert database connection something like db.Open();? I studied ASP.Net a few months back and I kind of forget most of what I've learnt.
So how should I open the database connection on login.java and how to check with database whether the user enters the right username and password?

How can I launch a contextmenu from a contextmenu? I'm trying to replicate the MediaPlayer action that happens when you long click a song, then click "Add to playlist" in the resulting contextmenu. In ThreadSafeClientConnManager I found this method: public ClientConnectionRequest requestConnection (HttpRoute route, Object state) Returns a new ClientConnectionRequest, from which a ManagedClientConnection can be obtained or the request can be aborted.
So far I've been using:

And that's the point where I'm stuck. I assume that for the route I can just use new HttpRoute(new HttpHost("10.0.0.1")) or whatever my server is, but what to put in for Object state?
And second, as soon as I've the ClientConnectionManager I can call getConnection(long timeout, TimeUnit tunit). But then from there, how I do I execute my HttpGet httpRequest = new HttpGet(URL_TO_FILE); as I did before with HttpResponse response = (HttpResponse) httpclient.execute(httpRequest);?

I'm coding a very basic FTP client on top of my application and I have 2 activities. The first one is the file explorer and the second one is the image viewer. Once I click on the image filename on the explorer, I want to pass the connection to the other activity to handle extra stuff. Basically, I want to keep the same org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient object (which handles the connection) alive in-between the 2 activities. I know I can't pass an object inside an intent so I don't know what my best bets are.

I see that it's a base class of Activity, but the Android docs also mentions the Context storing global information about the app environment. So in my app which has 3 activities, does that mean I have 3 distinct Context objects, or do they actually refer to 1 entity? This means that I either have to pass a context to all methods needing one or have some sort of init-pattern to the object. Neither is pretty I think. What is the correct way of doing this?
