Android :: How To Automatically Update Version Name?
Jun 19, 2010For an improved bugreporting I'd like if the tag android:versionName automatically contains the number of the revision on the svn server. Anyone knows how to do that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm developing an application that will most likely be preinstalled on devices. It will be also available on Market. Is there a way to update those instances that are not downloaded through Market, since Market won't notify users about an update. I was thinking about, as suggested here, trying to contact my site periodically, and when update is available, download it. I'm wondering if there is a way to do this update automatically, so that user doesn't have to do anything (like running the package manually). Or, when my site shows update is available, to offer users an update through Market, even though it's not installed through Market. EDIT: This Market option would be preferable, because than users wouldn't have to check "allow install of non-Market sources".
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use the alarm daily, while the phone is carried in my pocket. Before the update, everything was fine. Alarm goes off, I take the phone out of my pocket, dismiss the alarm and go on my way. After the update, I can't get the phone out of my pocket without the alarm going to snooze. Yesterday I was walking while the alarm went off, and it snoozed in two steps, I didn't even reach for it in my pocket. Today, with the phone in my hand I did the gesture for dismissing the alarm (drag down at bottom of screen), and it went to snooze. In order to dismiss the alarm, the phone has to be sitting out, and I have to touch the screen VERY carefully; anything else triggers the snooze.
This is REALLY annoying. I love my phone, but this glitch makes me want to hit it with a hammer. The way it's working, I almost can't dismiss the alarm at all. My current routine has the alarm going off every ten minutes for an hour until I can sit down and leave it out of my pocket for a while. I don't want to ditch the factory alarm app, because it used to work just fine and I like it (aside from that major bug). I fear switching to an aftermarket app may be the only solution.
Is this a known problem? I have automatic updates checked on all of my apps, but I still have to go in and manually check for/download updates.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI checked out cupcake branch yesterday and made the full build and sdk successfully, and I also built the ADT 0.9 with the command cupcake/development/tools/eclipse/scripts /build_ server.sh on another Linux box. Then I updated the ADT 0.9 and set new SDK on Eclipse. Then I created a simple Android project Test with Android Project Wizard, the Eclipse created project files except the R.java and then reported following errors. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android development. I am using a x-platform development tool which builds and signs the APK for me. This tool has a bug and it does not generate APK's with the version code I specify, all APK's generated are version 1.0.
I would like to unpack the APK, edit the version code, and then resign and repackage it. It was signed using my keystore originally, so I have the keys needed to sign it again. How can this be done?
Just to give you heads up - there's new version of FB app on the Market with Inbox this time, but keep away until they'll fix the FC bug as most people (including myself) seem to have it.

View 3 Replies View Relatedfollowing on a recent topic posted here is my question- how can I find out which version of Android Market am I running? If I go to Market and press "menu" button on the phone none of the options answers to my question.
My second question is- where is the "Update all" button in the Market. I can not see it anywhere.I am running Froyo 2.2, Orange branded Desire, stock ROM.
I've recently upgraded my phone from HTC One X to and HTC One M7.
When I go into system updates on the phone I get the message "The operation is not allow under GSM network. Please switch to CDMA network".
I live in the UK - is there anyway to update via computer or is this not possible as it seems to be an American phone?
I hate the AT&T Galaxy Express i437 and I can't update the android version (currently on 4.1.2) because AT&T requires WiFi for the update. I also can't find a working root so that is not an option. Is there any way to update to a new version without rooting or WiFi?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith 2.2 we got the market feature to update all which will just update all of the apps that have outstanding updates in the market.
What I cannot figure out is how to stop one particular app from updating, specifically I do not want to update the Facebook app since there are many reviews saying it is a big battery drainer and I do not use the app anyway.
Also, anytime I download a new app from the market, it automatically starts the download of the Facebook update, so I have to cancel it or if I don't catch it in time I have to uninstall the update. For both instances it just appears in my update queue again and I have the same problem next time.
So basic question is: Is there any way to select an app to not automatically update with the update all feature, or can we turn off the update all feature?
before i root and install CM rom, i would like to know that, if the CM rom has a auto update function once it's installed, so i don't have to reinstall it everytime CM has a update version?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought a galaxy I7500 yesterday, and it is running 1.5. I am in Canada and the phone is unlocked (I am using it with Wind mobile) and am wondering if there is an official update to different version of android (I had the magic before and it was all just done for me). Also does anyone know if the phone will relock, all the manuals are not in English so I am not sure the original carrier of the device. (The Samsung website only seems to list the L version of this phone).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm writing a game for Android. When the user completes a level, they can restart from the next level if they lose (i.e. I need to store an integer to remember which level they got to). If the app is interrupted during play, I save the world state to disk (this is complex state storing a map and game entities).I'd like to keep my options open in the future for changing my game code and the way the world state is saved/stored. However, I must consider the scenario when a user has an old version of the world state on their phone because they were in the middle of a game, they upgrade the app and now the app cannot load the world state. Having to write code to migrate the old version of the data to the new version of the data would be a pain if there's some way I can avoid this. It would be nice if I could somehow ask the user to finish their current game in progress before updating. Can this be done? Are there any other options?
I don't intend to do this often. I'd like to iteratively develop my game while getting some early feedback, but this is difficult if I must fix how the world state is saved and restored now.I hope this doesn't seem a silly question, but on a PC or a console it's perfectly OK to have games that you cannot save during a game or you can only save between levels. I'm just finding Android a bit of a pain here as you must have a save game strategy for all games.
There is Froyo running on an X10, I know its true because its my x10, this is an Alpha version and runs from the SD Card, it is not even a beta version yet but this version is around 90% done, still some things to resolve. This is not a re-flash of the phone it is a dual boot so has not affected the SE base operating system currently installed being 2.1.
The guys at XDA are working on this and if they get it fully resolved then it will become available as an alternative system, if they keep it as dual boot it will never affect your warranty. At all as this installs on your SD Card, there is a thread on the XDA forum but in respect of this forums policy on rooting and other things I wont post the link but searching the XDA forum for x10 Custom Rom will return a number of results so you can find it from there yourself.
If the guys at XDA can do this then SE can, the only thing is XDA are not restricted by International markets and operator restrictions like SE are, if XDA make a custom rom that runs 2.2. From the SD Card then for me its perfect it keeps the phone warranty and software as is and lest you run your own free Froyo version. The pictures are not photo shopped except for clipping and sizing from the original.
I tried to find out information on this over the Internet and it's really hard, i hope you can give me some answers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis phone looks sweet, and my friends are impressed by the sleek looking widgets on the screens, but I don't have the heart to tell them that the widgets don't update automatically. This is most visible in the FriendFeed, and "News" widget, but I suspect may also affect the Weather and even the People widget. My "Background Data" and "Auto Sync" settings are on. For example my phone was at my home for most of the weekend, where I have wifi. But as of Monday morning, the FriendFeed is still showing Friday's updates.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI definitely did not want to make a thread about this because I'm certain it has to have been made before, but I searched and searched and couldn't find a thread, so here goes.Ever since the update (the one like two weeks ago, the one that caused crashes and they pulled but eventually put back up) GTalk starts itself automatically. I already changed the settings so that it wouldn't start, and everything was great. But since the update, it randomly starts automatically. All the settings are still set to off, but it will start up whenever it feels like it. It's gotten to the point where almost every time I pick up my phone, I have to check Running Services to turn of GTalk. This is affecting everyone, I'm guessing? Has there been any news about it? Fixes? Also, somewhat off-topic, but I've been away from the forums for about two weeks. I've been on vacation. Have I missed anything big? Have there been anymore updates, besides the one which caused the crashes (and they ended up putting it back up, right? I didn't download the still glitchy version, right?).

Last week I got and update alert for Google Maps. I tried to install it and got a "Install error" "Package file not signed correctly".
What's strange about it is, I already had the version it wanted me to install. Version 3.1.2. It also doesn't show up in aTrackdog but does show in apps drawer and works fine. The market shows that I don't have it installed. All other Google apps are working and show where they should. This started before the C&D order.
I have searched but failed to find a definitive answer on the matter! I have used "listen" by google, but it dosen't update automatically, or find the new "kermode movie review" podcast for this week. So my question is, what android podcast app can I subscribe to a podcast to and just let it update like on itunes? Or am I using "listen" incorrectly and what should I do to get the most out of it?
