I'm getting a lot of requests by users of my flashlight application, that they want me to disable the HTC Hero's automatic dimming feature that works off the light sensor. How do you disable it through code? Or, isn't there a way?

I have a apk file, where i dont have the source for it.
When i run the apk, it automatically rotates the screen,

then after closing the application or coming out from the application,

how to disable the rotation.
I kinda liked the fact that the old system only rotated when put on one side. I didn't realize that I counted on the screen orientation to stay the way when it was leaned the other direction. But I do like to type with the unit on its side from time to time.Is it possible to switch it back to the way it used to be (pre 2.2)? I saw an on/off for the entire rotation, so I doubt it but felt it worth asking.

Say, here's a lame question. How do I stop my display from auto-dimming? Running DamageControl 2.07.2 if that helps... I remember finding the setting in 1.5, but can't locate it in 2.1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running into an issue, that I'm sure many of you have ran into at some point and found a way around. When I have my Phone Plugged into the Charger (For example when in my car) after a set amount of time (I think it's around 30 seconds) my screen will Dim to only about 25% brightness(But never shut off completely). As you can imagine, this is horribly inconvenient when I'm running Google maps or sprint navigation. How can I make it, so that when I'm charging the phone, the screen just always stays on and does not dim at all? And then when I'm on battery the screen resumes the normal behavior of shutting off after 30 seconds. I've tried setting the "Stay Awake" option under "Applications > Development" to on, I've also tried setting the "Automatic Brightness" option under "Sound & Display > Brightness" to off. Neither of these worked.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed it on my Droid and when I open the list and long press on an app it gives me the option to Auto-Kill. I assume this means I won't have to kill this app any longer so I select this option but I find that I keep having to kill the same apps over and over again. What's the point of Auto-Kill or what am I doing wrong? There are lots of programs (most I didn't even install) that run all the time and I'm having battery issues so I don't have battery to waste on programs I'm not using and will probably never use.

To do so of course, I have to go into settings, then display. Does anyone know of an app that I can add the toggle switch as a shortcut on my desktop? It is kind of a pain to go through the settings each and every time. I would much rather just hit it easily on my homescreen.

Now when I compose an SMS message, and begin typing the name of the person in my contact list, only some of the names that match will appear in the drop down auto-complete list but others that match don't show up at all. To compose SMS to them I have to use the Contacts>Scroll to contact>Select text to mobile method. Any ideas why some of the contacts do not show up in the auto-complete list when composing an SMS and typing in a partial name in the To field?

Whenever I input an 'a' the first option on auto complete is ' asw@armysurpluswarehouse.com' which is apparently from one of my google contacts. Since the web address has a period in it I am unable to select the entire thing at once by double tapping so that I can tell swype to take the word out of the dictionary it uses.

I guess this is useful when talking while driving and you know the phone will end the call when you set it aside instead of having to look on the screen. no headset plugged in just act as normal. Hopefully I am just missing something obvious as I can see the option to enable auto answer but this seems to be regardless of weather or not there is a headset plugged in. is there a way to disable this charging notification feature? it wasn't a big deal in the beginning, but since i need to charge my phone constantly to last the entire day, it has become an issue. I know I can turn my notification off or change it to vibration but then I'll miss all my alerts and reminders from other apps. any apps out there can simply turn this feature off?

View 2 Replies View RelatedA couple of times today I have taken the Hero out of my pocket to find that it is unlocked and doing something (first time it tried to send an SMS to a black number and then it had loaded the browser) which is weird because I didn't think it would be able to use the touch screen while in my pocket.I'm guessing that it managed to unlock itself by pressing the menu button twice while in my pocket, but this does seem unlikely - anyway I activated the unlock pattern and it hasn't done it since, so my question is it possible to disable the ability to double-press menu to unlock it? (It's rooted if that makes it possible).It's always possible that I just didn't lock the phone either of those times, but that seems more unlikely. Has anyone else noticed this problem?
