i searched for threads [keyword: google apps synch], and results yielded subjects ranging from apps [as in software] to syncing with a gmail account [vs. Google Apps account], and i looked at 'suggested' threads based on my thread title and tags added.does android have a native single sign-on/set-up wizard [vs.3rd party] to sync with my Google Apps domain and its related services [xxx@arirangonline.com] or does wizard only allow for "xxxx@gmail.com" input?

I do NOT have WiFi in my home. I do have a PC that IS connected to the Internet. (I can get to some coffee shops where there is free WiFi, but not easily) Is there a way WITHOUT THIRD PARTY APPS - through USB - to connect my Android phone to my PC, and sync or bring down my Gmail, Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar. Maybe this is not true... but it seems, since the iPhone offers this functionality, that Google would also offer it. I realize the world is going wireless.... but (OK, I'm in another country), it's not quite there yet.

Is there a way to sync my MobileMe information (contacts, calendar etc) with the Google Apps? I know it can be done as easy as exporting and importing but I am looking for a solution where I can always keep them in sync without doing anything. I used to have an iPhone and I still have a MacBook and so I've been using MobileMe to keep everything in sync. I am soon getting a Nexus One and I want to make sure my MacBook and N1 stay in sync as well. Any ideas?

so I just convinced my boss that we should switch from our costly Ms exchange solution to google apps, as it can do all the same stuff we need and more. We all have Android phones and I have set up my HTC Desire (Android 2.2 sense UI) to sync with my google apps account, no problem. However my boss have the Motorola Milestone, and his android version just wont sync with his google account. Every time I try adding a google account with his mail address (name@ourdomain.dk), I just get a no network connection error. But I can browse internet and youtube just fine.I have searched the forums, and it seems other people can add their google apps accounts just fine, while some have problems.

Just wondered if anybody here has fully committed their business (or works for a company that has) to the Premium Edition of Google Apps. If so can you give me any feedback on any real world issues that it has. Specifically I'm wondering how well it integrates with MS Office products. For example I receive a lot of Excel documents with embedded photos and .pdf files and will need to access and amend them. Similarly most of my customers use Excel and will need to be able to open a spreadsheet created by me in the Google system? Also can I migrate existing documents into Apps? I know these are fairly basic requirements and I would be surprised if Google haven't covered them, but are there any other issues that I need to consider before committing to the Gcloud?

Currently I have my Gmail calendar of course, in Red I have a shared Google calendar with the wife, in Green this is all very slick, all display entries in the built in calendar app and looks great. Can I somehow display my works exchange calendar, in a different colour, just as simply. Not bothered about mail or contacts really, just the calendar.

Considering the access Google has to programming genius and all of the brilliant coders out there developing apps and hacks, one thing never ceases to amaze me.
The utter lack of any integration between Google Calendar and Google Contacts.
You would think that you could just go to a Contact Record and from that record click on a button to create a Calendar Event. A link would then be created so you could easily call, email, message or navigate to the Contact for whom the event was created.
But no. You can't. Really, to me, this is remarkable for its lameness.
If you want to add email addresses of attendees to a meeting in Google Calendar, you must type them in from memory! There is no button to click which lets you select from a list of your Contacts and have the email control populated automatically. This, my friends, is PATHETIC.
Palm did this well 10 years ago.
C'mon Google, seriously, what the heck is up with that?
There is just one app that comes close to getting this right, "ContactEvent" and it's free in the Marketplace. Still, that is only half of what the functionality should be.

So I absolutely love Astrid, but it's missing one key feature for me. Calendar integration. I need the tasks to synchronize with the Android calendar.
Does such an app exist? Preferably one that is similar to Astrid?

I have got a new moto milestone and am in the process of migrating from my trusty blackberry 8800. I just need to migrate the contact list from my bb to the moto. Is google sync enought for it? I have synced all my calendar and contacts to the google cloud. Will android pull up everything when i put my sim and activate it? The usual method of exporting everything to outlook seems so cumbersome.

I'll be buying and Android phone with Verizon sometime soon. The one issue stopping me at the moment has to do with the capabilities of the calendar/contacts apps, and I'm hoping someone who is familiar with the android OS can give me a workaround (so I can justify buying one sooner rather than later.)
I've been using Palm Treo's for years, and use my phone for running my business, including scheduling clients and making notes about client sessions. With the Treo, and using a third party calendar app (Datebk), I can link someone in my contacts/address book to an appointment. So when I look at my Wednesday 1pm appointment with John Doe, with one click I can go to a list of all appointments I've had with him over the years, and can easily go to any of them and find session notes, etc. It basically links my contacts and calendar so I have access to all the info on that client easily. (The old Palm PIM when was genius).
Is it possible to do anything remotely like this with Android? In the little playing around with Google Calendar, and in playing with the Droid and Eris at the Verizon store, I couldn't see that there's any way to do this, without manually creating a list of session dates for a client every time I make an appointment. I know that the Datebk creators have talked about an Android app coming later in the year, so I may have to wait till that happens. Much as I'd love to upgrade now, I run my business on my phone, and having the capability to handle client/session info in a way I can easily access is near the top of my priority list.

all my numbers were saved into the sim fine no problem. all present and correct. when i went to manually enter a contact last night it gave me the option to store to googlemail, phone or sim.... well not knowing that my contacts were now stored under googlemail. i thought i would pick phone, one little message later (something about changing settings) but not saying it would wipe my contacts ...everyone apart from this new number i maunually entered were gone! so checked that i had checked the box to back up everything ( i had), tried to import from sim.... but nothing !!!! no contacts !!!!
EVERY other phone i have had you can save to any file sim, phone etc without a hitch , why not this one? are my contacts really all gone? or is there a way to rectify this?
a few numbers i remembered have now been entered into my phonebook manually and saved under googlemail .... but what happens if i accidently pick phone or sim again...... back to square one anyone else had this happen ? is there a way to get them back ? and a way around this in the future. ? if not the desire is going back

So, I have been playing around with contacts and google calendar syncing on my Droid, and I love it. I also know that it uses a very small amount of battery.
Looking at Spare Parts and the battery information, google uses MAYBE a minute a day for syncing, which is absolutely nothing.
Anyways, anyone know how often it syncs? Seems to be every 12-24 hours.

I'm new to the Android system and just got the EVO 4G when it came out last week. Alas, I'm not very familiar with the workings of the system. Of course, I have facebook so I integrated it into my phone. Well, all of my FB contacts birthdays were automatically imported into my calendar. How do I get rid of this? I have absolutely no interest in knowing that today is the birthday of someone my sister went to high school with (ie, random people I'm friends with on FB). I actually went through and deleted a lot of "friends" on Facebook to try to remedy the situation, but their birthdays are still on my calendar. Where can I turn this feature off? I tried manually getting rid of the birthdays on the calendar but my Android ignorance prevents me from doing this too.

I must be overlooking something.I am simply trying to get my phone to keep contacts synced with Google Contacts and I don't want "All" contacts just "My Contacts".Every time I send an email in Gmail, it automatically adds it to all contacts. It is going to bloat my phone.

I have just replaced my old phone with a new HTC Hero. Is there a way of importing all my contacts from CSV onto my HTC Hero without uploading them to googlemail? I was hoping there would be some software that i could install onto my PC, which would allow me to transfer the contact details across. I don't really want to manually type then in on the HTC Hero, although i don't mind cut pasting from my CSV file into some appropriate software - if such a thing exists.

I started receiving lots of rejected emails from my gmail.com account this evening... looks as though my phone (HTC Desire / Android 2.1) has been sending out bogus emails... no subject, just a link to a website ...
eg.
hxxp://xxsomethingxxx.spaces.live.com
Its sent a different website to each section of my addressbook, so as not to have too many recipients on each outgoing email... some of the other emails reference different sites ... I've no idea what's caused this...assume it must be an app that's been installed. I've installed the free AV on my phone from the google market (orange/white capsule). I've fixed all the reported errors...
Guess I wanted to know if anyone has seen this before... I'm worried the O/S may now be compromised and i'll need to start from scratch. If anyone can provide any advice and / or pointers to diagnostic/security tools it would be most welcome.

I am pretty sure that in ICS when a calendar event had a registered location, you could click on the location triggering the maps app to show you where it is on the map. I've noticed that in Jelly Bean this link was disappeared. The location is shown under the title of the event but you can't click to view it on the map. Is this happening to your phones too?

I want my Gmail account to stay added so I can sync my emails, but I'm not interested in having every email address I have ever emailed added to my phone contacts! How do I stop this? I have looked under Accounts & Sync > Google > - here it only gives 3 options "Sync calendar", "Sync contacts" and "Sync Google Mail". Under each one it says "Select to sync all" and if I press any of them it just updates & syncs. There is no option to remove the things (contacts) that I would not like synced!

What are all the calendar apps that sync with Google and are NOT widgets? Again, syncing with Google Calendar and being a non-widget app are important. The stock Android Calendar is very poor.
So far, the only app that I have found is Gemini Calendar. I know of other syncing apps but they sync with sites like "Remember The Milk".

We use Google Apps at work, primarily for GMail and Google Calendar. I can't seem to figure out how to get the calendar app on my Droid to work with Google Apps, however.
I have two accounts set up to sync on my phone, my personal account and my work account. This works fine for email, I can sync and check both accounts easily. Calendars, however, are a problem. The only calendar it seems to work with is my personal google account, which I don't use. All my events (and company's events) are on the Google Apps calendar. If I go to "add calendar", the only options that come up are the calendars for various google groups I belong to on my personal account, which isn't what I want.
How can I get google apps calendar on my phone? I can pull up the browser and manually access it through the website, but this is less than ideal since it takes frustratingly long to do that, not to mention the lack of reminders and such (and I'd especially like to have it working with a wigit on my desktop).

My mother-in-law has the best application on her Pre - it's an app that downloads pro sports team schedules to the calendar allowing for notification of upcoming games. I have searched all through the market place and haven't been able to find anything similar other than Sports Tap widget. Has anyone seen anything like this? If not, somebody should develop this. I would think it would be pretty popular.

Is there a way to sync Google calendar and contacts to the phone calendar and contacts?
I deleted all my outlook entries (calendar and contacts) from the phone because it was creating duplicates. Now, I am syncing my Hero with my Lotus Notes calendar at work, as well with my Google calendar. I can see all appointments on my phone. However, I can't see Lotus appointments on my Google account, neither my Google calendar entries on my Lotus Notes.
How can I sync them all? If I import my Google entries into Lotus, it will create duplicates in the Phone and vice-versa.
I don't see any advantages for Google entries to be separated from my other entries. I have one list of contacts and that list should be the same across all programs I use. The same for calendars (actually it is useful to have multiple calendars, as long as no duplicates exists).
That, for me, is the biggest drawback of the HTC Hero. My Moto Q was a lot worse phone than the Hero, but the calendar and contacts sync was much better.

exchange to sync email due to the fact you have more options on the email client that comes with phone as opposed to the basic gmail program that comes with phone? Is this a good way to go? Is exchange just as fast in pushing the email as google is when it syncs as it comes in? Thanks...

For people who want a fully automatic way to keep both Calendar & Contacts sync'd both ways between Outlook and Google Gmail / Calendar.
I've already done a lot of research on this topic as it is currently the most important item I've got to have working in order to keep the Droid. It seems like nobody really has a great solution yet, but there are some in the works. This thread can serve as a master list for Outlook sync software.
Here is what I've found so far:
CompanionLink $40 (released, sounds like the best currently available): Sync Microsoft Outlook with your Google account and your phone | CompanionLink
Missing-Sync $40(update: Released. Calendar syncing is now supported, but requires additional app installed on phone.): Keep your life in sync with The Missing Sync for Android from Mark/Space Appears to be the best all-in-one solution for syncing Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Docs, Media and more. Includes 'Proximity Sync' - syncs wirelessly & automatically w/ your computer.
gSyncit $15 (released, but lots of problems reported by users. EDIT: Some favorable reviews in this thread, may have improved reliability): http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
SyncMyCal $25 (released): Share Outlook Calendar Free, Google Calendar Sync, Pocket Outlook Google Sync - SyncMyCal
Anybody using this?
OGG Sync $30/yr (Not yet released): OggSync - Sync Google Calendar and Contacts with Outlook and Windows Mobile Device Sync (including Microsoft Office) Blog Archive Real... Native... Google Contact Sync — OggSync 4.0
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook $50/yr (Requires Google Apps Premier or EDU Edition):[url]
Are there any good free apps out there that can sync Contacts? Tell me and I'll add them to the list.

I added the birthday to a contact the other day but it didn't appear in my calendar on the phone, even though I have the Google 'Contacts' birthdays and events' enabled and it has worked fine in the past.
To cut a long story short when I add a birthday a new entry is created in the Google calendar but it doesn't appear on the phone even after multiple syncs. The only way to get it to appear (or to get the test ones I tried, to disappear) was to remove the calendar from the phone and then add it again (Calendars>Menu>Remove----Menu>Add).

currently I still have got Sony Xperia X8. I know it's a little bit old but still I want to keep it for few months. Now I'm thinking about rooting it and upgrading it to Android 2.2 or 2.3. All the stuff is stored in the phone's memory. I'd like to synchronize my contacts and calendar events to Google - tried few tricks but still without any result.
It looks like it's not possible to sync contacts which weren't stored as Google Contacts. I need to do the same with my calendar events.
I would really like to keep my data stored in the phone's memory as well as on Google. So I'm looking for sync option. If this is not possible then I'll need to get used to store everything just on Google but first I need to import my data there as well.
How do you sync your data or what solution do you use and why?
