Android :: Market/Google Checkout Integration
Jun 15, 2009
My company registered for Market when the G1 came out, setup a Google Checkout account as soon as possible, and this weekend listed a pay-for app.
Everything looked OK, but after a couple of days of 0 sales and a few users saying they were going to buy the app I thought I'd do a bit of digging around, and found that despite Market letting us list a pay-for app with a price and showing no errors the Google checkout account was suspended and thus couldn't take payment.
The reason; Not agreeing to a new Terms of Service.
So if you're listing a pay-for app, and you've seen no sales, you may want to click on the "Go To: Transactions" link on the developer console to see whether or not it's Google Checkout that's the problem.

I have already asked this question regarding Payment Gateway Integration into Android, but didn't got any satisfactory answers.
Can someone let me know is it actually possible to integrate any of the above mentioned Payment Gateways into Android?
Mostly I think we can call their Web Services and then consume those services which will be in XML.
I will like to know if someone has done the same thing or is absolutely sure about this.
I want to develop a shopping cart type application where the user needs to purchase the products from the list of products. Once the user selects the product, the payment should be made directly from the same application only and not by opening Google Checkout or Paypal mobile website.
Please let me know what you people think about this. Hope to get the answer quickly.

I'm in the UK and tried to buy some apps for the first time today, when registering a card I tried debit card and amex credit card but both times I got server error retry or cancel.
Is this a google checkout issue or am I missing something I need to do first?

I know there is a Google Checkout API, but that seems it is more for creating a shopping cart, and interfacing payment methods w/ Google Checkout. Is there any management tool that allows one to 'easily' communicate with the customers? Automate a thank you message, or something?
In addition we have already had one customer call to say he had multiple $1.00 charges for our $0.99 app.
I purchased our $0.99 app and sure enough, I have the following holds on my account 02/20/2009 5399 GOOGLE $1.00 02/20/2009 5399 GOOGLE $1.00 02/20/2009 5399 GOOGLE $0.99
This does not seem right, especially if someone is buying more expensive applications, or using a one time use card.

I get about 2 emails a day from users who are trying to buy my app on the Android market but cannot. Mostly due to some credit card authorization issue that they need to fix with checkout.google.com.
But this needs to change. User should be notified in the Android Market (We cannot process your order until you update your credit card information), or something like that. But instead they think the order went through (and in some cases it has, but credit card is not authorized, so app never downloads) and they think its a problem that I have control over (which is not the case, except I can cancel their order).
Here's a typical email:
"Still waiting for it to be downloaded. Tried for about 3 hours yesterday an so far today for about an hour but nothing."
Or another:
"I purchased your golf app for 99 cents 2 times last night and it is still downloading from 10pm until 7am. I would like some assistance or a refund of my money. I want the app. But its not downloading.

Now I have to play a support person for Google Checkout too. I've got a customer who later cancelled his order and I got this message (via Google Checkout) from him a few minutes ago:
"Hello ..., <John Doe> has sent you the following message:
Question regarding order #234230...: I requested a refund on this order and according to the status, my card shouldn't be charged. But on my bank account today it shows I was charged.
Order Details - <date time> Google Order #<...> Shipping Status Qty Item Price Cancelled Items <software..> $<price> Tax (<state>) : $0.00 Total : $<price> Order cancelled - Your card was not charged"
Does anybody know the link to Google Checkout help which explains why Google doesn't charge immediately (besides the 24/48 hour period) to allow the user to buy multiple items but charge him once to save on transaction fees, and presumably does that for cancelled orders. I'm pretty sure I read about this but my I'm extremely tired and can't find it.

I jsut noticed this morning that I was charged sales tax on an app I bought in the marketplace, I went and looked at my past purchases and I I have been charged tax on a couple, but not all... anyone know anything about this?
seems like it should be an all or none thing, and usually when I buy stuff online I don't get charged sales tax anyway (which is why I shop online in maine!)

I am considering to do an in-app purchase model within a paid app that releases or adds video content if the user opts in via a google check out method. Does anyone know how to do this from a coding standpoint? and does anyone know if this is possible?

I put out my first paid app this afternoon and have gotten 4 orders so far. When I initially set up my merchant account with GC, I had it set to authorize only and not to authorize and charge. So of my 4 orders, it shows my net revenue as $0.00 for each. How can I charge these orders?
I've gone into my merchant account now and set it to do both in the future. I guess I should have found a resource on this before setting it up.

I've been using free apps for quite a long time, but now there are some apps that I want to buy. The problem is with Google Checkout. I've searched and the solution doesn't work. I always get the infamous "server error" when its trying to authorize the transaction.
The solution was, put your card info via a computer, then go buy it via the market. Well, that didn't work. I remember when I tried to buy a domain with Google apps, I also ran into a problem because of google checkout.
Has anyone dealt with the checkout problem where you couldn't buy anything at all? Any tips on getting there damn non-existent customer service to help me out?
I tried to buy via T-Mobile billing method, but that is also a no go because the info is stored on my checkout account and not directly to T-Mobile. Man, if they do bring paypal out soon, I hope they don't connect it with checkout otherwise, I can't buy any apps.

Is there any way we can integrate Google Checkout in Android?
I am able to post the order request and in response I get the checkout redirect url where the user is redirected. But then how to proceed with it. How will the android application come to know when the payment is done.
The redirect url is called in Webview and then there is no connection between the mobile app and google checkout. How can the mobile application get the response from Google checkout?

I want to put up a button on my app for people to donate to my favorite charity. I could redirect it to a web page, but it will be really easy it people can just one-click and say "donate $5.00 to the Church of Nonflammable Hell through Google checkout" than pulling out their credit card and gong through 10 steps.

Every time I go to purchase an app from the market. I fill in all my info in google checkout (name, credit card, address, etc.) when I hit the save button it gives me an error message that says it can't connect to the server.
I live in the US, I have 5 bars of service and 3G, even wifi going. I have tried it everyday for the past week and I keep getting the same error when I try to save.

I'm based in the US and if I go into my google checkout merchant account and go into tax settings, there are only options for setting tax rates for US states. Aren't we supposed to charge VAT taxes if we sell ( via Android Market/Google Checkout) internationally?
Not that I would know how to actually pay those countries their taxes.
Do I in fact owe taxes to other countries if I'm in the US and selling software (apps) say to the UK? My company has physical presence in only one US state. For sales to US customers that typically means I only have to charge (the customer) and pay (the state) sales tax when the "shipping address" of the customer is in the same state that my company has a presence in.
But how is it supposed to work for sales from US to other countries, and where do we set this up in Google Checkout and how (if in fact we owe those countries their tax money) do we actually go about paying them?

I recently tried to purchase SkyDroid golf app and am now stuck in authorizing/purchasing mode. I've searched the forums and found a few "dead" threads on the subject. I've been around with the developer and google checkout and no one seems to have the answer. The developer canceled the purchase but Market still lists it as a purchased app. So I can't re-download it.

I'm not sure how many of you have noticed, but the reporting system of Google Checkout has been broken since around noon on Friday. Orders continue to display in the web interface, but any attempt to query for orders via HTTP requests or exporting orders to .csv files only returns updated information prior to 3/5/10. For example, if you had 50 sales yesterday and tried to access the orders via the notification API or my exporting a spreadsheet, the request would return no information.
I'm not even sure that the Google Checkout team is aware there is a problem. I posted a message in the Google Checkout forum:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/checkout-merchants/thread?fid=5...
There has been no official response. I realize it was over the weekend, but it's really starting to have a negative impact. If you are a dev affected by this, please either post in the thread I linked to or try to contact Google. If someone from Google actually reads this, could you please try to make the relevant team aware of this issue if they are not already?

I'm looking at ways to sell my app to countries where Android Market does not allow people to buy apps (only free apps available in market).
I was looking at Slideme.org, but most of the apps there seem free and the details on their website seem scant about how to actually setup an account so they can pay me using say PayPal. Also, I couldn't reach them by phone, so I'm guessing its a pretty small operation.
I was also thinking about using Google Checkout to sell directly from my website. Would use a buy now button for digital content delivery, using a server 2 server back end post to send a license key to Google checkout which they only show to user after they've paid (or authorized, or something). User would then enter license key on my website using an Android phone browser only and if key is good would get redirected to the .apk file for download.
Still lots of risks for piracy. I suppose having the user enter the license key in the app itself and having the app communicate back with the server for validation might be better, and there are other solutions for that as well.
My main questions are: - Does anyone have experience using SlideMe for actually selling apps, and are they good with service and getting you paid? -Is there any issue with using the same Google Checkout account that is linked to my sales on the Android Market to sell directly from my website?? -Is it against any Google policy to sell an app directly using Google Checkout for the same app that is available through Android Market?

Recently changed to Android, Desire HD...
I already had a Google account with a CC registered to the account.
I have purchased 2 apps from the marketplace, downloaded and installed etc...
Some time later I'm checking my online banking and I've been charged the price of the app (2.99) and an additional 1 card fee. Same for the second purchase app cost 1.99 and an additional card fee of 1.
What goes?
Do I have to pay a 1 fee for each purchase from the Marketplace?
It's a debit card I have registered...

Would appreciate some comments on whether our Google Checkout is vulnerable when downloading and using apps that request your gmail authentication details e.g.
RSS readers that uses your Google Reader
SMS backup apps that back up to your Gmail account
Picasa photo related software that needs access to your gmail
I was thinking over this weekend that it seems to me that if we supply these apps with our gmail credentials they potentially have the ability to also hack our Google Checkout which doesn't have any secondary level of security other than our Gmail account username/password!

"Tap Install (for free applications) or Buy (for paid applications).
Note: You need a Google Checkout account to purchase items on Android Market. See Creating a Google Checkout account to set up a Google Checkout account if you do not have one."
Would i need to setup a google checkout account to download free apps?

So after 2 weeks with my DI, I decided to actually purchase my first app via the Android Marketplace and clicked the 'Buy' and it took me to Google Checkout.
All was good, but after I entered my Amex CC info, it popped up saying it was 'Invalid' or some dumb message. So I tried again to "re-add" it and same message pops up.
This is my only CC other than my debit card and I refuse to enter my debit info online anywhere.
And just to make sure, on my computer, I logged into Google Checkout and all my Amex CC info is 100% correct, shipping address, etc. Then I go back on the DI and nothing. WTF?
Is it because the app from the UK and Amex is just denying the charge because it's overseas? F that if that's the case..

I really want to integrate Google Sky Map into a program I'm working on, but as far as I can tell there is no information out there about this. I tried loading a KML file from the web, but it seems neither Maps, nor Sky Map handle it on Android. Is there some way that I can pass coordinate data to Sky Map? Does it have any registered Intent-filters?

I had about 70 or so apps between paid and free. All were listed in my download list on the market as installed or if i uninstalled a paid app it would still say purchased for downloading again at a later time. After using the wipe but keep apps method on droidmod 1.0, i got back about 90 percent of my apps. I lost a few paid and free ones, no problem right? just re-download, no biggie because i already purchased them. Well al my paid apps have prices next to them, i cannot update any paid apps without having to purchase them again. I checked google checkout and all the receipts are still there. Also all the free apps work on my phone but none say installed in market, they say free so in order to update them i must re-download and guess that they have a new release out. Any ideas, did i get semi disconnected from the cloud by doing the wipe but keep apps method? As it stands i will loose 40 bucks or so in apps if i want to update any of them which is no big deal but its just the thought.
