I have got a new moto milestone and am in the process of migrating from my trusty blackberry 8800. I just need to migrate the contact list from my bb to the moto. Is google sync enought for it? I have synced all my calendar and contacts to the google cloud. Will android pull up everything when i put my sim and activate it? The usual method of exporting everything to outlook seems so cumbersome.

I do NOT have WiFi in my home. I do have a PC that IS connected to the Internet. (I can get to some coffee shops where there is free WiFi, but not easily) Is there a way WITHOUT THIRD PARTY APPS - through USB - to connect my Android phone to my PC, and sync or bring down my Gmail, Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar. Maybe this is not true... but it seems, since the iPhone offers this functionality, that Google would also offer it. I realize the world is going wireless.... but (OK, I'm in another country), it's not quite there yet.

Looking at Spare Parts and the battery information, google uses MAYBE a minute a day for syncing, which is absolutely nothing.
Anyways, anyone know how often it syncs? Seems to be every 12-24 hours.

I know it can be done as easy as exporting and importing but I am looking for a solution where I can always keep them in sync without doing anything. I used to have an iPhone and I still have a MacBook and so I've been using MobileMe to keep everything in sync. I deleted all my outlook entries (calendar and contacts) from the phone because it was creating duplicates. Now, I am syncing my Hero with my Lotus Notes calendar at work, as well with my Google calendar. I can see all appointments on my phone. However, I can't see Lotus appointments on my Google account, neither my Google calendar entries on my Lotus Notes.
How can I sync them all? If I import my Google entries into Lotus, it will create duplicates in the Phone and vice-versa.
I don't see any advantages for Google entries to be separated from my other entries. I have one list of contacts and that list should be the same across all programs I use. The same for calendars (actually it is useful to have multiple calendars, as long as no duplicates exists).
That, for me, is the biggest drawback of the HTC Hero. My Moto Q was a lot worse phone than the Hero, but the calendar and contacts sync was much better.
exchange to sync email due to the fact you have more options on the email client that comes with phone as opposed to the basic gmail program that comes with phone? Is this a good way to go? Is exchange just as fast in pushing the email as google is when it syncs as it comes in? Thanks...

Of the 2GB dataplan that AT&T automatically added once I plugged my SIM card in, I've only racked up 50MB of data for the whole billing period (which ends in a couple days). I like Android but don't need 3G or Internet.

I added the birthday to a contact the other day but it didn't appear in my calendar on the phone, even though I have the Google 'Contacts' birthdays and events' enabled and it has worked fine in the past.
To cut a long story short when I add a birthday a new entry is created in the Google calendar but it doesn't appear on the phone even after multiple syncs. The only way to get it to appear (or to get the test ones I tried, to disappear) was to remove the calendar from the phone and then add it again (Calendars>Menu>Remove----Menu>Add).
currently I still have got Sony Xperia X8. I know it's a little bit old but still I want to keep it for few months. Now I'm thinking about rooting it and upgrading it to Android 2.2 or 2.3. All the stuff is stored in the phone's memory. I'd like to synchronize my contacts and calendar events to Google - tried few tricks but still without any result.
It looks like it's not possible to sync contacts which weren't stored as Google Contacts. I need to do the same with my calendar events.
I would really like to keep my data stored in the phone's memory as well as on Google. So I'm looking for sync option. If this is not possible then I'll need to get used to store everything just on Google but first I need to import my data there as well.

I can't seem to sync some contacts that i've added on my galaxy to google contacts. i count at least 3 off the top of my head that i've added some time ago - one with only a name + number, one with those + pic, one with those + email. i just logged in to gmail on a computer and was about to send a mail to the last one mentioned, but couldn't find the contact. i tried to sync manually from the phone (by disabling/enabling contacts auto sync), and it did sync and changed the timestamp for "last synced", but none of those contacts appeared in my google contacts.

He wants to sync his contacts and calendar.On my Droid, I go to accounts & sync > add account > Google > enter my address and password.i get offered to sync Calendar and/or Contacts, by clicking on the check box.On his Epic, he adds the account, but there are no options, no check boxes! Is this different somehow? It works fine with his gmail, but not his generic Google account. On my Droid it all works fine and everything is in sync.

I have synced all my Facebook contacts' birthdays with my Google contacts using Uber Facebook sync (or some other totally rad hipster name) - although they are not visible anywhere (is this even possible?).

I'm a new Droid Eris user and have been using Google Calendar for some time.I have a single calendar set up which is syncing with the Eris.I can successfully add/edit/delete entries from both applications and have them show up just fine on the other side.I have a couple of recurring entries that I've since deleted in Google Calendar but are still showing up on my Eris.The unique thing about both of these entries is that they were meeting requests sent to my Gmail address and accepted from there.They have since been cancelled from the original sender and are now removed from my Google Calendar.My calendar entries are labeled as dark blue, and these two show as light blue.I cannot select them on the Eris to edit or delete them.

Am I right in thinking that it is via this that chrome/firefox to phone works, and that you can do backup and restore to and from the cloud? View 2 Replies View RelatedToday, I managed to sync. my Lotus Notes calendar with google calendar (after 2 days of turmoil)Then the notes events were displayed on google calendar but 6 hours ahead (like GMT) thought both calendars were set on the same time zone (CST).At this point, the calendar pad widget synced with google calendar and displayed all my lotus notes events 6 hours ahead as in the google calendar.I then changed my google calendar time zone to GMT so that my lotus notes events showed the correct time .But now, the calendar pad widget still shows the old google calendar events that was 6 hours off even after syncing.Can some one please help configure such that my lotus notes , google calendar and calendar pad widget all show the same events at same time (hopefully, maintaining the same time zone settings for all)

The problem is not that companies want to block GCM, they are just unaware of the fact that their firewall is blocking it by default. GCM uses ports 5228, 5229 & 5230 which are almost always blocked on corporate networks. This means push messages don't come through. It also seriously screws with Hangouts (when I open the app random messages come though while others don't; this results in only being able to see parts of conversations).
Response from Google is to request the ports to be opened. This is not an option as I work as a consultant and move between clients. I can't get them all to open up the ports.
Google is seriously hampering the use of Android and Google services for professional use by using non-standard ports. I don't understand why they are not openly pushing for the ports to be opened by default or use standard ports (could also just be as a fallback if the preferred ports are blocked).I can't use Hangouts professionally now (which I would prefer over Skype).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that despite having only four or five playlists on Google Music (desktop) my phone shows a bunch - mostly ones from albums I've downloaded. They don't show up in the browser version on my desktop so it looks like the only way to get rid of them is to manually delete every single one via the phone app.
Also, I've noticed that when I switch the settings to "on device only" my playlists created on the web page no longer show up, despite me having the majority of the songs on my microSD. I remember I used to be able to switch to "on device only" and the cloud playlist would scale down to only what I had on local storage. Was so....logical! Is there any way I can still do this? My microSD music is pretty much pointless since I don't have access to the playlists when I'm using "on device only".
I have an HTC One running Android 4.1.2 and I want to listen to Google Play over my Yamaha DLNA receiver.
I've already tried some apps, and BubbleUPnP promises to have this feature, but it just won't play songs from the cloud.
Is there any chance to install a system-wide service that routes all the sounds of the device to the DLNA receiver? On an iPhone that works via AirPlay, there must be something like that for Android too, right?
Problem: Appointments / events created on my LG Optimus G were not syncing to desktop Google Calendar. No problem with appointments / events created on desktop syncing down to phone. Problem Identification: Default calendar when creating appointment / event on phone was calendar called "Phone". There is no calendar on desktop called "Phone". Solution: Pick different calendar when creating an appointment / event on your phone.

And I configure the username and pwd from DevTools->Google Service Login successfully. Now I can start the Calendar app successfully, with the month view/week view/etc. But I don't know how to sync the calendars or events with Google Calendar service. From the source code, I assume there should happen sync operation. But it didn't happened. And I know another trigger to sync is Menu->More->My Calendars, but after selected, the activity will crash. However, I hate HTC Calendar and the way it has sync problems with Google Calendar, i would much prefer the stock Android Google Calendar. Anyone know where I can grab the latest one that comes with non-HTC Froyo so I can make my life better?And for anyone skittish about rooting don't be!
