Android : Get Screenshot Includes Current Wallpaper Without DDMS
Nov 15, 2010
I applied android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper" to get the current wallpaper as the background of my application. Then, I used the getRootView().getDrawingCache() to get the screenshot of my application. I found that the screenshot didn't include the current wallpaper. Does anyone know the reason? Is there the method to get the screenshot which includes the current wallpaper without DDMS when I apply android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper"?

I'm trying to make a screenshot of an Archos 5 IT using DDMS (SDK 1.5 and 2.0) without success. The screenshot is awful with a lot of yellow. Do you have the same issue ? I would like to know if possible if this issue is due ti an SDK problem or an Archos problem.

I'm currently developing a game for Android and I want to take screenshots of it.I did so using the DDMS tool in eclipse. However, most of the screenshots are a mix of two frames:The separating line is in different positions. This leads me to the conclusion that the screenshot is being made while the current frame is still being drawn. Is there a way to get the screencap in sync with the hardware? Are there other methods of making screenshots where this doesn't happen?

When one wants to publish his App on the Android Market he can upload up to two screenshots of his app. I would like to take these screenshots with my current device (Motorola Droid) that I'm using to test the application.
There are some Apps on the Android Market that allow you to take screenshots, but you have to root your phone, which I dont want to. There are related topics within stackoverflow where people want to take screenshots out of there code (here). However I just want to take screenshots of my running app with the current device, which is connected via USB to my computer; I'm developing via Eclipse, so there should be a way to tell your running device that it should take a screenshot via the sdk, right?

I realize this isn't exactly a programming question. However I seem unable to discover this information elsewhere, so thanks if anyone can answer this. I'm on a Samsung Moment running Android 1.5.
Is there an official support forum for this type of question, or a preferred forum along the lines of ubuntuforums.org?

How I can add headers to my native c file.
So here's the details.
I was able to setup my android project to call a native function from a .so file. And actually I need to add box2d to my project, but I when I include the header files, it won't make. So basically my problem is how do I tell the make file to include a whole folder with header and cpp files.
I tried adding the path directly to the include statement just for the sake of testing it. The error goes away, but new errors come out.

It looks just like the Lpp calendar widget, and works great so far. Do the update if you're using this home app, and you'll get the Facebook widget under Lpp widgets.

I am successfully linking some of my code stored in a .jar-based library to my Android app. The .jar code references Android library content just fine.
The problem is I need to include 'res' resources in the library but can't work out how to do this. Any suggestions?

I would like to use an <include /> in my XML file to add a layout below a MapView(or any other greedy layout). I have been trying for a few hours now, and no luck so far. I was hoping someone could give me a hand.
Here is what my XML looks like now:
CODE:...................
Optimally, the include could be any sort of other layout. The goal here is to have the Google map on the top, and then have the included layout below it. If I include the content in the layout, such as replacing the <include /> tag with a <TextView /> then that works correctly, so I am thinking I am mis-using the include. A trip to hierarchy viewer shows that the included layout has no height. I have tried putting the include first, and using a RelativeLayout to position the map above the included layout, but I could not get that to work correctly (the included layout took the entire screen space, even though I explicitly said layout_height='wrap_content'

I am rooted with unrEVOked 3.2.1 as of yesterday. I want to remove a bunch of the bloatware that came installed on my phone. I downloaded Titanium Backup to do this, but it comes up with an error that says "Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again." I tried to download BusyBox from the market, but it just sits there and doesn't download.

I was looking for some information on the TI processor in the Droid when I came across the information for the WiFi/Bluetooth chip in the Droid, the TI WL1271. Check out it's info here:
Mobile Wireless LAN - WiLink⢠6.0 Solutions
It says "provide FM transmit and receive functions to turn the handset into a personal area broadcast device"
So, why don't we have transmit/receive functions on our phone?
Another feature the WL1271 has is support for 802.11n. Why don't we have that, too?

Well, right now, I have an iPhone 2G with a 20 dollar data plan that also includes 200 texts. It's part of a family plan, and I'm probably going to go Samsung Captivate or iPhone 4 in a few days. My questions include
1. Can I just use the 20 dollar data plan for the iPhone with that phone, like, without them knowing? Any serious consequences involved with it?
2. Similar to the first question, can I just use the non-smartphone data plan, which is 15 bucks a month, and use that with the Captivate? Would they know which phone is using it?
3. Once I switch to limited data, like 200 MB or 2 GB, can I switch back to unlimited?
I don't pay my own bills, parents do, but don't want to put on an extra 10 or 15 dollars a month right now, just for data, when I could just continue using whatever I'm using.

How can I take a screenshot programmatically? So far I've learned that:
1) DDMS does it by sending "framebuffer:" to the adb service over a socket, which takes a screenshot in framebuffer_service.c that it sends back.
2) There are some proprietary screenshot apps out there that stipulate the user must have root access, I'm not sure why.
Would it be possible for an Android app to send "framebuffer:" to its own adb service and get the screenshot that way?

All I keep seeing is people asking for an app that allow screenshots without root. The only solution all have given is installing sdk which is a pain in the bum to do. I have another mini-solution until such an app is developed.
Both Open Home and Home++ have this feature built in. Only negative to it is, you won't be able to take a screenshot of your HTC Sense UI home screen or Android stock home screen only the open home or home++ screen. But for many who are like me and could not run the SDK correctly, this works just fine.

My goal is to be able to type a one word command and get a screenshot from a rooted Nexus One attached by USB. So far, I can get the framebuffer which I believe is a 32bit xRGB888 raw image by pulling it like this: adb pull /dev/graphics/fb0 fb0 rom there though, I'm having a hard time getting it converted to a png. I'm trying with ffmpeg like this: ffmpeg -vframes 1 -vcodec rawvideo -f rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb8888 -s 480x800 -i fb0 -f image2 -vcodec png image.png That creates a lovely purple image that has parts that vaguely resemble the screen, but it's by no means a clean screenshot.

I am trying to debug my device from a windows system with no IDE, just the android sdk, jdk and jre. I am using the ddms to do so. I works fine. I can see the entries in the logcat in the ddms. Among others I can see 'Wrote stack trace to /data/anr/traces.txt". But when I select the Device->File Explorer... and try to open the data folder, there is nothing there. It looks like an empty data folder.
