HTC EVO 4G :: Verify ROM Rooted And Includes BusyBox?
Sep 29, 2010
I am rooted with unrEVOked 3.2.1 as of yesterday. I want to remove a bunch of the bloatware that came installed on my phone. I downloaded Titanium Backup to do this, but it comes up with an error that says "Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again." I tried to download BusyBox from the market, but it just sits there and doesn't download.

i recently bought a cheap irulu tablet off ebay. it's running 4.2.2, and i'm not quite sure if it's rooted or not. i've read that most of their tablets are rooted right out of the box, so i downloaded 4 or 5 root checkers from the marketplace and some said it was rooted and some said it was not. i know that it does have su and busybox installed, but i don't have one of those superuser apps that request permission or anything. i can browse my full phone with any file explorer. i installed titanium backup, and it says on the main screen that root access is ok, but then it will pop up an error message that says:
BusyBox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root. There's something wrong with your "su" binary and/or "Superuser" app.

I was looking for some information on the TI processor in the Droid when I came across the information for the WiFi/Bluetooth chip in the Droid, the TI WL1271. Check out it's info here:
Mobile Wireless LAN - WiLink⢠6.0 Solutions
It says "provide FM transmit and receive functions to turn the handset into a personal area broadcast device"
So, why don't we have transmit/receive functions on our phone?
Another feature the WL1271 has is support for 802.11n. Why don't we have that, too?

How I can add headers to my native c file.
So here's the details.
I was able to setup my android project to call a native function from a .so file. And actually I need to add box2d to my project, but I when I include the header files, it won't make. So basically my problem is how do I tell the make file to include a whole folder with header and cpp files.
I tried adding the path directly to the include statement just for the sake of testing it. The error goes away, but new errors come out.

Well, right now, I have an iPhone 2G with a 20 dollar data plan that also includes 200 texts. It's part of a family plan, and I'm probably going to go Samsung Captivate or iPhone 4 in a few days. My questions include
1. Can I just use the 20 dollar data plan for the iPhone with that phone, like, without them knowing? Any serious consequences involved with it?
2. Similar to the first question, can I just use the non-smartphone data plan, which is 15 bucks a month, and use that with the Captivate? Would they know which phone is using it?
3. Once I switch to limited data, like 200 MB or 2 GB, can I switch back to unlimited?
I don't pay my own bills, parents do, but don't want to put on an extra 10 or 15 dollars a month right now, just for data, when I could just continue using whatever I'm using.

It looks just like the Lpp calendar widget, and works great so far. Do the update if you're using this home app, and you'll get the Facebook widget under Lpp widgets.

I applied android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper" to get the current wallpaper as the background of my application. Then, I used the getRootView().getDrawingCache() to get the screenshot of my application. I found that the screenshot didn't include the current wallpaper. Does anyone know the reason? Is there the method to get the screenshot which includes the current wallpaper without DDMS when I apply android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper"?

I am successfully linking some of my code stored in a .jar-based library to my Android app. The .jar code references Android library content just fine.
The problem is I need to include 'res' resources in the library but can't work out how to do this. Any suggestions?

I would like to use an <include /> in my XML file to add a layout below a MapView(or any other greedy layout). I have been trying for a few hours now, and no luck so far. I was hoping someone could give me a hand.
Here is what my XML looks like now:
CODE:...................
Optimally, the include could be any sort of other layout. The goal here is to have the Google map on the top, and then have the included layout below it. If I include the content in the layout, such as replacing the <include /> tag with a <TextView /> then that works correctly, so I am thinking I am mis-using the include. A trip to hierarchy viewer shows that the included layout has no height. I have tried putting the include first, and using a RelativeLayout to position the map above the included layout, but I could not get that to work correctly (the included layout took the entire screen space, even though I explicitly said layout_height='wrap_content'

How to verify if the system update has been installed on my phone or not? I accepted the download, but did not run the install. I then ran a factory reset to try to clean things up. But then worried that it auto-installed when the phone reset. Any ideas how to check what I got?

On 4.2, I'm batch restoring apps in titanium backup. Every app restored requires a "Do you want to install this application?" prompt which requires me to click "Next" one or more times, then "Install" before it'll restore that app. This becomes tedious. Back on 4.1 it would just do all my apps without my intervention. I have unticked Settings>Security>Verify apps.

Album app mixes cover art with photos. And, there is no option to filter them out, or not to include them at all. The cover art are found in music folder, so why are they appearing in the album. Does the xml file in the top folder of SD card need to be modified to ignore photos in music folder?

Should Busybox (and the Linux stuff it downloads) be installed directly after rooting, or after every single flashing of a ROM? I am assuming this has to be done after every flash only.
Another thing, should Busybox be installed to /system/bin, or /system/xbin? By default Busybox wants to install to /system/bin. I am safely assuming that formatting /system in recovery would remove all the Busybox components. To some people, formatting /system before flashing a ROM is imperative.

We already use Android API. But sometimes I want to know is it verified or not? by whom?(e.g. Android team in google) by which one? (e.g. Unit test or Basic Acceptance Test for API) Do android team have any test report? Because this is a platform for smartphone. For example, if there has any problem in Android API (e.g. Date and Time), it makes customer spend money and time more. But I can't find any report about verifying API test. If you have any information about it, please let me know :) Also if there has no information, how can I test some API to verify API.

This is only on 1.5 targets with the google API addons (target 3). If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Sometimes, when a user updates my app from the market (from one version to another) they get a VerifyError upon running the app. It happens to a random class; you can use part of the app, then going to a different Activity in the app causes it to blow up. This only happens once; once Dalvik gets it out of its system it never happens again.
Since it only happens once per update (and most of the time, not at all), it is admittedly a minor issue, but I think it reflects badly on my app, so if anyone has any ideas that would be great.
The stack traces don't seem that helpful, since they always happen in a different place (which further confuses me).
Here's an example of one:

I'm currently trying to port the famous complex event processing runtime "Esper" to the Android (2.2) platform and am facing a VerifyError, which I - although reading several other post on VerifyErrors - do not understand.
The project I am trying to build and run contains only Java sources (no libraries). Therefore, I assume, that if these are compiled successfully, they would pass the verification process. But during runtime, I get the following error:
CODE:......
The source of "EsperEPL2GrammarParser" is quite big ( > 40,000 lines) and so is the above mentioned inner class DFA156, which mainly contains a switch-statement (> 60 cases) and each case contains several (> 50?) if-then-else statements. Just an idea ... when reading the error message above (invalid switch start: at 8, switch offset -31132, count 34530) my alarm bells ring, cause some values around 32768 (16 bit range) always make me nervous.
Nevertheless, I am confused with this VerifyError and would appreciate any help getting closer to the error's source. What can I do to encircle the error ?

So I have used the one click root thingy. Have the superuser app. Tested. I have root (look screenshot). Now I want to install busy box. When I got the app from market to install the latest I got this. What I want to know. Is it safe and if so whats safe to erase from the system folder. (would kinda like to get rid of the stocks and footprints app) but really not sure its not linked somehow and I get some big system error , since these apps run all the time. (actually I want to install busy box to be able to remove these apps anyway). I installed titanium backup and it installed busybox version 16 or soemthing. Problem is other apps like the cache cleaner doesnt find busybox installed even if I do it via titanium app.
