Android :: Cache Images For Use In Offline Mode

Jun 8, 2010

In my application I use SoftReference to cache images, it is working fine with active internet connection. And now I need to cache images, so I could use it in offline mode. What is the best way to implement it? Use complex solution with SoftReference and database? or maybe SoftReference and local storage (sdcard)?

General :: Offline GPS Navigation With Voice Routing In Pedestrian Mode

May 14, 2012

Any app for GPS navigation which has voice routing possible in pedestrian mode? I sometimes need to go to some destination in a part of the city which is not familiar for me.

However, the navigations I tried, have voice routing only in car mode, so it has to take in account things like driving directions etc. which the pedestrian does not have to respect and thus the track is much shorter.

It would be nice if I, for example, just could get off the bus, switch my GPS on, select destination, activate the voice routing and put my phone in a pocket and let the navigation voice guide me to the target place. It would be more comfortable as I sometimes see the map very poorly and also have to keep an eye on other pedestrians, cars etc.

Currently tried Sygic and it does not have this.

General :: Open Local KML File In Google Maps In Offline Mode

Sep 7, 2013

i just registered here to find out if opening a KML file on my SD card with Google maps in offline mode can work. I am looking for an solution quite a time, but only found this thread on stackover.

Quote:

To load kml into Google Maps on Android without writing an app, you can create a little html file somewhere with a geo-uri link to the kml file and then click on that link in any Android web browser.

For example: suppose your kml file is located in /sdcard/overlay.kml then you write a geo-uri link like this:

Quote:

<html>
<head><title>Example KML link page using a geo-uri</title></head>
<body>
<a href="geo:0,0?q=file:///sdcard/overlay.kml">overlay.kml</a>
</body>
</html>

Clicking on the link will launch Maps and then Maps will attempt to load and your kml.

Be warned however that the Android version of Maps does not appear to handle the same version/range of kml elements as the desktop version (or desktop Google Earth).

a other thread is about editing the manifest file to get maps to open local KML files

Quote:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="h**p://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.lyold"

[Code]....

Any way to open local KML files with google maps in offline mode ? I want to open kml ONLY in google maps, i know there are several apps out there that support kml files....

Android :: Need Details Of Operate A Service?

May 5, 2009

I have a question about service, take a music player for example. While I am playing the music in background as a service. And then a phone call happens, what should the service do? Will the OS (android) pause the service, or will the developer who develop the service write code to detect things like this and define the operations? I did not find any material about this question, so I raise a new post here to find if anyone who is clear about this? Or can introduce me some material to read. Thanks very much!

Android :: Cannot Operate Screen Due To Cold Weather?

Dec 17, 2009

I have a new Motorola Droid w/Verizon. Below 40F, my fingers will no longer operate the screen. Last night at 21F, I got a call that went directly to voice mail and when tried to check voicemail, the phone froze completely. I tried to restart it... it came up with "call in progress" when I tried to check voicemail. After about 15 minutes inside, the phone started working again normally. Is this a problem with all Droids or do I need to get another phone?

General :: Google Search Widget Always Opens Links In Incognito Mode?

May 23, 2013

I don't know why, but when I type something into the Google search widget, it will open up a browser, I think Google Now, and then when I click on a link, it will open the link in Chrome, but in Incognito mode! I don't know how to stop it from doing this, and just open links in regular Chrome.

Have tried closing Chrome + Incognito tabs, restarting device, uninstalling Chrome (which isn't possible).

Development Eris :: Operate Wifi While Having Text Service Turned Off?

Jan 11, 2010

Is it possible to operate the wifi on an eris while having the phone/text service turned off (airplane mode)? My home is the only place that I don't get voice/text signal and if I leave my phone on it drains the battery searching for signal. I typically leave the phone in airplane mode while in the house and occasionally turn the airplane mode off to pick up the wifi and check email. Is there anyway to have the wifi operate continuously to notify me of emails, but have the voice/text service off to conserve battery?

Motorola Droid :: Jawbone Headset Paired Nicely And Easy To Operate

Apr 28, 2010

Just so everyone knows, this headset is awesome. I got the Rogue at VZW store for $75. Also, those who don't know, the VIP program is discontinued - so nice of them to send notification. Paired beautifully - and if you have your Droid and another phone, it can take calls and manage calls on multiple phones.

Anyhow - it paired nicely, easy to operate, very clear on both ends, and it tells you the number that is calling audibly. There are "apps" for the headset and one of them is for voice dialing. I will try it, but the Droid hardware (I think) doesn't support it. We shall see. Anyhow, I always like a heads up when looking for a good product so I hope this helps someone.

Android :: Modifying Android Seekbar Widget To Operate Vertically

Mar 10, 2009

I'm trying to get a vertical seekbar going with the emulator, but I'm sort of stuck. I can get the seekbar to display the way I want it to, and I can get the progress to do what I want, and I can modify the onTouchEvent to get the thumb to go vertically instead of horizontally. What I can't do is get the thumb to move outside of the default 29 horizontal pixels without using setThumbOffset(). This in itself isn't a problem. The problem is coming from the fact that I don't understand the thumb Offset at all -- I guess. I think I could (properly) resize the widget, which I am pretty sure I'm not doing right. Or maybe I could just use the thumb Offset if I could figure it out. Since I can calculate the progress correctly I thought I would just use a linear function of progress * (get Top() - get Bottom()) of the widget but that doesn't seem to do it. But I can't figure out what the offset is centered around. As a somewhat aside, I am really unsure if what I am doing in onSizeChanged() is sane or if it's going to bite me in the ass later
on. Here's the main.xml layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Linear Layout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
And the class (ignore the debugging junk):
import android.content.Context;
import android.graphics.Canvas;
import android.util.AttributeSet;
import android.util.Log;
import android.view.MotionEvent;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.SeekBar;

public class Slide Bar extends Seek Bar {

private int oHeight = 320, oWidth = 29;
private int oProgress = -1, oOffset = -1;;
private float xPos = -1, yPos = -1;
private int top = -1, bottom = -1, left = -1, right = -1;
public Slide Bar(Context context) {
super(context);}

Android :: Search Context With Type To Search?

May 1, 2009

When implementing search in my application, I'm including some search context info depending on the activity where search is invoked. In one of those, I'd like to implement type-to-search as well, but the standard method of adding search context info doesn't work in that case... the onSearchRequested() method in the activity is never called. Is there any way to include search context info in a type-to-search invocation, or am I stuck with only the Search key and menu option?

Android : Want To Install An App Offline Using Usb

I wanted to see how my app looks on a G1 so I connected it to my computer and put my .apk file into the downloads folder on my G1's SD- Card. Ok, now my app is on my OFFLINE G1 but how do I install it? Can I install it with only the native apps on my G1? Right now, I don't see anyway to view the file. I know I can take the chip out of my N1 and put it back into my G1 and then simply download and install it but I would rather not do that.

This object contains all the data I need over all the application. What I do now, I write this object to a text file (i serialize my object and save it as a file with ObjectOutputStream) and in every activity I read this file. But this file is pretty long and it takes a while to read it. And i have to use and read this object in every activity! Isn't there a better way to do this? I cannot save this file in a database because the structure is to complex.

Android :: Offline Topographic Maps?

Jun 24, 2010

I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the droid incredible's GPS features. I know it uses A-GPS, but I've been led to believe that the use of cell towers is only to facilitate the acquisition of the almanac or when GPS signal is unavaible altogether. I'd like to use my phone's GPS while camping, at which point I'll be well away from cell coverage. Will I still be able to get a GPS signal. If so can anyone reccomend a topographic mapping software that I can download maps from to my phone?
