Android : Want To Install An App Offline Using Usb

Mar 20, 2010

When I bought my Nexus One, I took the card out of my G1 and put it in my N1. I've developed an app and I know how it works on the Nexus but I want to test it on my G1. I wanted to see how my app looks on a G1 so I connected it to my computer and put my .apk file into the downloads folder on my G1's SD- Card. Ok, now my app is on my OFFLINE G1 but how do I install it? Can I install it with only the native apps on my G1? Right now, I don't see anyway to view the file. I know I can take the chip out of my N1 and put it back into my G1 and then simply download and install it but I would rather not do that.

General :: Possible To Install Greek Kdz File With Offline Method

Jun 9, 2013

I am from Greece. i am sailor so i bought from Italy a LG optimus L9 P760 v20B (with "TIM" software as i can image from those TIM aps inside). It doesn't have greek language so after a fail contaction with LG, i tried to search in xda to find a solution. The only solution is the OFFLINE METHOD but i followed every step one by one but i didnt make anything.... Not possible to install the greek kdz file with offline method. After doing those steps, after step "9" when im clossing the small box, there is no step 10 for me. Actually i never saw a step 10 in any of mine pc. I feel that something is going on in the small server.

Do i need to have internet to do the offline method??

I need 2 things only
1) Greek language
2) To root the phone so i can delete those TIM's apps which are full unusable for my GREEK probider ( and i cannot understand italian...)

Android :: Offline Access To Data

Nov 30, 2009

I am developing an application with TripIt integration and I make a call to their API and I get all my data in JSON format and save it in an object ListTripResponse. This object contains all the data I need over all the application. What I do now, I write this object to a text file (i serialize my object and save it as a file with ObjectOutputStream) and in every activity I read this file. But this file is pretty long and it takes a while to read it. And i have to use and read this object in every activity! Isn't there a better way to do this? I cannot save this file in a database because the structure is to complex.

Android :: Offline Topographic Maps?

Jun 24, 2010

I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the droid incredible's GPS features. I know it uses A-GPS, but I've been led to believe that the use of cell towers is only to facilitate the acquisition of the almanac or when GPS signal is unavaible altogether. I'd like to use my phone's GPS while camping, at which point I'll be well away from cell coverage. Will I still be able to get a GPS signal. If so can anyone reccomend a topographic mapping software that I can download maps from to my phone?

Android :: Recover Offline Devices

Dec 23, 2009

I found that android handsets connected to my PC via usb often go 'offline' status (by adb.exe devices). And, in this situation, I can not debug or access the handset anymore. My question is, how can I make the handset back to 'device' status. I tried 'adb kill-server' and 'adb start-server', but it didn't help. Why the connection is so unstable, and how can I recover it without reconnect it to the computer.

Android :: Translation App That Works Offline?

Aug 19, 2010

Google Translate is great, but it's crippling fault is that it needs a data connection to work. Obviously the only time I am going to need language translation tools, is the same time I don't want to pay for roaming data access!!

Are there any good (and preferably free, or minimal cost) language apps for Android that work offline? I need English > Italian initially, but the major languages would need to be supported too.

Android :: Looking For Offline Contacts Backup / Restore

May 16, 2010

I have a new HTC Hero and TELUS imported the contacts from my old (OLD) Motorola i570 dumbphone. I need to do a lot of cleanup of the data, including specifying proper first/last names, merging postal and e-mail address data from my Palm TX's database, etc. I used "Contacts Manager" to export my phone-based contacts to an XML file on the SD card. It can apparently import an XML file as well, but I can't get it to work. It always complains about importing a directory instead of a file.

Contacts Manager v1.1 Application for Android | Tools

So now I'm looking for another app that can overwrite my phone's contacts database with new data from an XML or CSV file. I would really prefer not to send all this information up to Google.

Android :: Caching Google Maps To Use Offline

Nov 24, 2008

I don't currently have a data plan. Since I'm on WiFi 95% of the time, I don't plan on getting one. The only thing I haven't been able to do easily (without a data plan) is use Google Maps while driving/walking.If I load the maps before leaving a WiFi hotspot, my location is tracked and I can pan around the map. Of course, as soon as I want to view another uncached portion of the map, I can't.Maps are small, and it would be perfect if I could cache maps for a certain area - say everything within 100 mi of my house. Any ideas?

General :: Offline Voice Recognition - Android 4.4.3

Jun 6, 2014

I am coming from Windows Phone and everything went smoothly during the transition. However, I miss some useful functionalities I had with WP that I really miss on Android, like offline voice recognition and SMS reading.

I was using voice recognition in my car (where data connection is bad and unstable from which it is necessary to have this functionnality offline), I was saying "call [NAME]" and it triggered the phone call with confirmation of the command.

I would like to do the same thing with my Nexus 5 but I didn't find a way to do it. I downloaded the language pack for my language (French) in the parameters. Is it possible?

Anorther point is the reading of the SMS (texts). When a headset (wire or bluetooth) was connected to my WP, my phone was able to read aloud the content. Is it possible with Android?

Android :: EBook Reader WITH Offline Dictionary Lookup

May 29, 2010

I've been a WM user for years, and I am tempted to change for an Android (HTC desire...), BUT... I can't find if Android will fulfil my specific needs.

I use my smartphone mainly as an ebook reader, and I read English literature, although my moher tongue is French, so I need to lookup words in the dictionary quite frequently. Since I read i places where I don't have an Internet access, I need the dictionary to be offline.
All this works perfectly well with Windows Reader on WM, and a free EN / FR issued with the reader: you tap on an unknown word, it opens the menu and you just click on "Definition..." to obtain the it (no need to re-type the word, and the lookup analyses the "morphology of the word, so that whatever the grammatical form it can be recognised)

So, my question is: is it possible to have the same features on Android in general, and the HTC desire in particular? That is:
- an ebook reader app that won't bother me with DRMs and let me read my DRM-free "home made" ebook files
- that comprises or can be used in connection with an OFFLINE EN / FR dictionary (or a simple English dictionary, it would do perfectly well, as long as it defines the word)
- and where you don't need to re-type the word you want to look up, just tap on it then launch the dictionary in 1 click
- the dictionary should be able to do some morphological analysis, i.e. if you ask for the definition of, say, "seen", it should recognise it as a form of "to see".

I have done some research, and found that there's an ebook app on Android that seems quite successful, Aldiko, and it claims that it has a dictionary lookup function, BUT from what I have seen on the web, it seems that you have although you can call the dictionary easily from the app,you have to re-type the word, so it doesn't fit my bill (besides, it's not clear whether the dictionary is offline or not).
