Is it possible to get the mail app to display unread counts for imap folders?
I have a bunch of server-side filters that move unread email into different folders, but its not possible on the Hero to see which imap folders have unread items (except In box). I've tried both the Mail app and K-9 but couldn't find a setting to show them. Anyone else figured it out?

I have an HTC Desire with HTC sense. I use the included mail app for two different accounts (non-gmail). On my home screen, I have shortcuts to each mailbox. However, for some reason the unread count is always the same on the two shortcuts. (I get a new message in Account A, and both shortcuts show 1 unread message.) Any idea how to fix this? Otherwise I like the mail app, and I'm not looking to change the app. Just wondering if this is a common problem with an easy fix.

As a die-hard Apple fan who's stuck with Sprint, I'd say the Hero get's high marks in my book.Anyway, I'm a MobileMe subscriber and have all my various email addresses funneling down to my MobileMe account. I set up the Mail app to retrieve email from my MobileMe account via IMAP but am having a bit of trouble with the Sent and Trash folders.The Android Mail client is creating a secondary Sent and Trash folder even though "Sent" and "Trash" already exist in MobileMe. I noticed that there's also a Deleted Messages and Sent Messages folder as well in the Android Mail client.I tried out the K-9 Mail client which allows you to remap the folders (I remapped Sent to Sent Messages and Trash to Deleted Messages), but I'm not a big fan of K-9 and love how the default Mail app works.Does anyone know how I might be able to remap folders or get the Sent/Trash folder in the Android Mail client to map to the Sent/Trash folder in MobileMe?
View 7 Replies View Relatedmost other smart phones display the unread email count as a small number in the lower right hand corner of the email application icon. I like that. After realizing that this is not supported by the GMail app, I started looking around the market for a widget that achieves this. All I found was a commercial widget, which did not satisfy me (the count did not get instantly updated when the unread mail count changed). Therefore I want to develop a widget, which accomplishes exactly that.Many of you probably have more experience in android development than I do, so I would be happy to hear your opinions. I see two ways to realize this:
1) Somehow hook into a content provider of the GMail app and extract the unread mail count directly from there. Unfortunately the GMail app is not part of the SDK and closed source. Therefore I have no idea how to find out about the internal workings of the app and how to extract the unread mail count directly from there.
2) The second approach is much more indirect and has more overhead, but it will work nevertheless. I will let the user provide google username and password and log into the google imap server directly and find out how many unread mail there are. A port of the JavaMail library for the android OS should make this quite simple. The question remains when to update the mail count. What should trigger the update? A periodic time-out? Well, my first idea would be to update it when the widget is first started and then every time a new mail notification comes in. However I don't know whether this is possible. Can I tell my application to react to notifications, which where produced by another application (GMail app in our case) ?
I really think there should be a free unread gmail widget, which accomplishes this! I would be happy to receive feedback.
I use Hot mail as my main e-mail account but I cant seem to get an unread e-mail count on the launcher pro icon in the dock! It shows up in the notification bar at the top but ideally I'd like a little red number on the dock like it works for my hand cent sms.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, my inbox for my IMAP connection to the office email decided to empty itself on my Desire (2.1).An email arrived and I opened the inbox (not the email) and my inbox was empty.I have just popped in to the office (day off - typical!) and all my email is still there so it's not a total loss, just a little confusing since everything was working sweetly.The email server is based on an OS X 10.6.4 server in the office (not that this should have anything to do with it really).I've been through checking the settings and they're all OK. Only thing I haven't tried is removing the account and putting it back on. Might give that a try later on.

I have it set up for IMAP for my home email, and I can not move messages from my inbox into another folder.Can you actually do that? If so I haven't been able to figure out how.If you can't, is there a different Mail application for Android that will let you do that?It seems like a common enough feature that you would think it would be there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've tried searching for this issue around the forums, but I can't find anything similar.I bought a Hero about a month ago, and I use the Gmail app to get my Google Mail with no problems at all.I set up the default Mail app to get my work e-mail using an IMAP incoming server and SMTP outgoing server, and that's where my problem exists.When I set up the account on the Mail app, everything works great and it downloads the e-mails I've received within the last few days.After 12-24 hours, it stops downloading any e-mails into my Inbox. If I hit refresh, it refreshes without any error messages, but no mail shows up.I tried deleting the mail account several times and setting it up anew; each time the same thing happens it works for the first 12-24 hours and then stops downloading.(I can still send e-mails with no problem.I've tested that.)The strangest part is that if I hit Menu from my Inbox and choose the Folders option, I get a folders list that has some of my IMAP folders in it, but then where the list should include folders that have sub-folders, it instead begins a list of literally thousands of folder names like {33}, {51}, {20}, {27}, {22}, {34}, and so on. (The numbers in the brackets appear as the folder names, and the numbers often repeat, but not in a recognizable pattern.) Overall, the list of "folders" with those numbers in brackets is thousands of items long.

But, when on the home screen, if i click the "+" sign and "add widget" it's listed there.Is there a reason I can't see it unless I want to add it to my home page or is this a problem with my phone? Also, is there a place to see a complete list of my WIDGETS being that they're not listed in the "all programs" list?Lastly, I see alot of people post a white box picture with black stuff in it, as if to scan it somehow. View 6 Replies View Relatedjust got my new Hero yesterday and spent last night setting it up.I pull e-mail from my home e-mail server (an Excito Bubba) via IMAP, and had settings that worked flawlessly with my old HTC Tyntyn I entered these these into the Hero and although the device 'accepted' them it's not downloading any e-mail.I've searched through all the settings including how many and how frequently to download e-mail and all seems ok.It's really frustrating as it should be so simple.I've also tried a simple pop3 account that I have with lineone and no joy in setting that one up either.I called Orange tech support but they couldn't help either and I don't really want to return the phone.I have also tried a factory reset a few times and re-entered the settings via the wizard and manually but still no joy.

I cannot get the unread email count to clear from the stock HTC email app. I have two exchange accounts set up and after I read the mail, whatever the unread count was just prior to my reading it sticks. It stays there until the next time I get email and then the new count stays there.

Has anyone else had this problem or more importantly, know a fix?
Just noticed this within the last week or so. My unread count in the little green bubble for my email inboxes are off. It will have one number before I open my inbox and then another unread count within the app (before downloading any new emails). It then updates itself when I exit the messages app. Do you think it might have something to do with too many widgets on my homescreen? I don't have anything major...1x1 more icons, 1x4 smooth calendar, vibrate toggle, htc clock. Anyone else have this issue?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just switched from the HTC eris to the Droid and had no issues with IMAP on the eris which is running 1.5 OS. What's happening is I setup my personal domain email as imap and all works. I mark all messages in the inbox as read. When new email comes in it marks the entire inbox as new. I've deleted the account multiple times and done a hard reset. I even tested this in the store on 2 phones.
Moto doesn't have an answer and I found this thread on the VZ forums Droid IMAP emails always Unread - Verizon | Forums and Blogs - Verizon Community which the OP is using the same hosting company as I am. I've never had a problem on a WinMo, BB or iPhone setting it up the same way. Something seems off but not sure what it is. I've setup GMail via the same mail app and that's working.
This is the only thing I miss from my Blackberry. I know I can add a message icon on the homeccreen but I want to have 1 inbox on my homescreen that displays an unread message count and the inbox includes:
-all missed calls
-voicemails
-facebook msgs
-texts
-email
Is there an app for this? or a way to do it i'm missing? search resulted in unadressed topics.
I've just got my HTC Desire and configured it all as standard i.e. followed the install walkthough. It is now up and running but I've noticed within my GMAIL account some IMAP folders have arrived, these are new folders all emails that are used on the phone now arrive with one of these labels on. I tried changing the titles of these within GMAIL but then it sets up the Imap ones again. anyone know if I can either get the phone to stop doing this, or if I can change the label?

Now I can access my IMAP mail account pretty easy and everythings seems to work fine. The only problem I have at the moment is that K-9 creates some new folders for trash, sent and other standard stuff. Does anybody know how to remap these folders to use the folders that are already in use (e.g. map "Sent" to "Sent objects")?

Wondered what people's thoughts were on the mail apps that come with the phone? I've been using the HTC app, but have noticed that after a day or so the notification sound stops playing when I receive an email. This happened for anyone else? Anyone tried both apps for any length of time and have strong opinions over which app is better? I saw a review that said the HTC app is better but the Google one doesn't seem too bad to me... Anyone using the Google app that would care to chime in?

However, I was disappointed with its e-mail capabilities (or lack thereof) and quickly got rid of it.Due to the nature of my work, I use several different e-mail accounts and I need to be able to access them using imap so that when I move or delete an e-mail locally, it gets updated on the server. Can the G1 accommodate this? For each e-mail account, can you specify things like imap and smtp server?I use a gmail account, a google apps account and three other accounts with other e-mail providers.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have the option if I want to convert my main mail account to an Exchange account or keep it as an IMAP account. So far I have the phone setup with my IMAP and it's pretty decent, messages appear as unread if I've read them on another computer, I can switch to different folders I've setup, etc. The only thing is that it checks mail every 15 minutes (i could change it to 10 but the polling technique is still used). Is Exchange ActiveSync any better in Android or is it buggy? I'll switch if the push email really is instant and non buggy.

1. Why did HTC not include IMAP IDLE (push) as an option in their mail client?
2. Does K-9 Mail drain your battery faster if set to IMAP IDLE (push) ? I have heard varying opinions on this.
3. I considered just forwarding all email to gmail since it does use IMAP IDLE but I was wondering if I reply to an email that is forwarded to gmail will it send it from my gmail address or can I have it sent from the original forwarded address?
Attempting to setup my work email on my Evo.The incoming settings are correct and it connects no problem. However I am having some problems with the outbound settings.We do no require login for the outgoing server. So I removed the check mark but then the next button is grayed out.I am receiving email but am currently unable to send any messages.
