Android :: Droid Native Picture Viewer
Nov 14, 2009
Just got around to trying the built in photo viewer in Droid accessed through gallery, Just tried free app 'picture viewer' and it's better, but still not great. Going to keep looking. What I am looking for is to flick through photos, which picture viewer does, but also being able to pan around pic if zoomed in. Also automatic search of SD card for folders with pictures.

Use Picture Viewer to read e-books and such... Well, try to. It seems it does show the files in order? By that, I mean alphabetically by filename. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

Recently my phone only shows my pictures in low resolution until I zoom in a tiny bit, then suddenly it sharpens into the full quality image. Is it suddenly displaying low res thumbnails for my images until I try looking at them? It never did this before, and it's not a 2.2 change as it started doing it a day or two before I updated it.

I use the backgrounds app, and it lets me save backgrounds to my SD card. I go into Astro/ sdcard/ backgrounds and then click on the picture. It gives me 2 options to open it. "ASTRO Image Viewer" and "View picture". For me to use it as a background I have to pull it up in "View picture", BUT....no matter how many times I try and pull it up that way, it shows me the first picture in my camera album. If I click "ASTRO Image Viewer", I can always see the picture I selected, but under menu, I only have the option to "share" and nothing else. Can you tell me why the selected picture won't show up in "View picture"?

I am trying to create an android app that will let me display images fullscreen with next and previous buttons on top to change between them.
Can anybody point me to some tutorials where i can find instructions on something similar?
If not, what is the best method to use to get the images into the app? I have tried several ways from creating object classes for the images and instantiating it with a drawable in each using the Bitmap Factory to return the image but that won't work.
I am a beginner to android and could really use reference material but can't find anything useful that covers this subject.

I have a fully-working web app that is accessible using Android's browser.
The annoying part is the url bar uses a lot of the screen. Is there a way to make this web app a native Android app? I've read that webview can be used to embed a web site within the Android App.
Unfortunately, I only know web programming languages and have no Java experience. Will I still be able to do this on my own?

I posted this question sort of embedded in the "show us your Droid X screen" but I think it got buried with all the "what is that widget?" questions.I see on some screens the picture widget picture is big. Mine is only about 1 inch by 1/2 inch.I can barely even get 1/2 a face in the picture. How do you get a bigger picture?I'm running LauncherPro, is that effecting it?Since I couldn't get a bigger picture, I decided to try and add the slide show widget. But when I try, it says Widget Conflict only one photo slideshow per home screen. I don't have any other slideshow widgets on my screen. Any ideas?

I want to port a program I wrote to android. The program is in c++ on windows and linux. The program uses dll's for a plugin architecture. New plugins can be added to the program by downloading a dll which the program loads from a specific folder.
My question is...
Is it possible to download dlls built for android to a directory on the sdcard then from native code load and use those dll's

I need a good pdf viewer, on the market there are two (> 4 stars) cheap options (AFAIK)BeamReader (1.99)RepliGo (1.99). I only find comparison between Beamreader and docs2go(9.99) and many of you point that d2g can do more that beamreader, but I don't need to read office files (I do use open office and D2g doesn't seem to be able to read pdf). I didn't find a direct comparison between the first two options so which is better Beamreader or Repligo and why?

I have a custom EditText and a TextView in an Activity. The custom EditText traps for key presses and calculates the number of character entered and wants to publish the character count to the TextView. Do I use the java.util.Observable/Observer way ? Or is there a more native android method to achieve this?

I'm interested in the following features:
Writing an app for Android Market that is written completely in C++ (a port of existing product actually).
Use fast screen-buffer pixel pushing (or rather using OpenGL ES for this).
Grab user input and direct it to C++ code.
Is it legal to write such an app for Market? Is Market policy somehow strict to such things?

This is my first S/O question.
I'd like to know more about porting C applications to native ARM for use on Android devices.
I can make simple programs using the prebuild toolchain which comes with the source, but how can I use this toolchain with applications which are more than one file and require configure and make?
