Does anyone know if there is a way to identify (in code, not LogCat) when the GC has run? Perhaps an intent is fired? I could analyze the LogCat output, but it would be ideal if I could determine when the GC has run from my code.

This little web page runs fine on my desktop but when selecting the area with a G-1 Android device (select box that says statewide..) the data refreshed with the requested data in the table but the text in the select box does not change,,, the other select boxes (month and year) work fine.. Fwiw the data is still rough and so is the gadget...
I've rebooted and restarted the g-1 to no avail..

The broader question, i guess, here is how to debug a web page on any android browser? we don't have a firebug equivalent..
Further I confirmed the same bug in the Moto Cliq browser (also old still a 1.5) very strange every once in a while the G-1 operates correctly, but I can't figure out how to get it to do it, just that every once in a while the select shows in the window when selected and the data refreshes..
I have verified that this seems to be a verified bug in the early browsers... so now I'm trying to figure a work around, I added setFocus on the select box but it is ignored on the Android G-1

I have three select boxes on the app so I need to display the selected info...as the selection is served.. not just initialization. FWIW the behavior seems to be on select boxes that have the selection dynamically loaded,, when I finish all three boxes will need dynamic loading now only the area box is dynamic, year/month are coded and so work.
Seems like since 2.1 my Droid runs hot when doing extended surfing or using the car dock. It gets very hot in the car dock (with GPS and navigation running). Combine that with the heat effects of the sun and the Droid gets very hot. Any one else notice this? Seems like this would be bad for both the Droid and the Droid battery. Normal?

I have a layout that looks something like this:

Essentially, I need the contents of TextView 2 to wrap to the next line, but start where TextView 1 starts. I was thinking that if I knew how much text would fit into TextView 2 before it runs out of space on line one, I could take the rest of the text and put it in another TextView below the first two. So I need to measure how much text will fit into a TextView (which can be tricky because as far as I can tell, Android will try to break the text in a TextView at a good location so that it won't break a word in the middle if it can be avoided) or I need a new idea on how to lay this out.

I've always thought phones should do this, but I've never had one that did until now.It acts normal, as in still connects to data and voice, etc. I can't really see how this is too beneficial, but thinking back on the days of a blackberry, when those things' battery died the phone's data and voice would not turn on with or without the battery until about 20 minutes of charging.

I know how to get the API level, android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT, but there are also several revisions of each level release, e.g. for 2.1 there's rev 1 and 2. How do I determine the revision of a build?
The reason i'd like to know this is that I have a workaround for a bug in Android 2.1 (and 2.2), and this workaround will break the moment the corresponding bug is fixed. So right now i'm in the odd position of hoping that the bug won't be fixed (at least not until I can find an answer to above question).

How does Android determine whether to move the layout up when showing the softkeyboard?

, but in my case it doesn't seem to have any effect. This is my problem:
I have two activities, pretty much the same layout, but the first one is using a ListView that holds a list of buttons. The second activity holds a scrollview with buttons.
The rest is the same, same number of buttons, same height of elements, etc.
Now, when I press the search button to open the search input bar, in my first activity, the entire layouts gets moved up.
While on the second activity, the layout is not being moved up but the softkeyboard just displays on top of it. This is actually how I want it to behave. How can I achieve the same with my activity that's using the ListView?
In my manifest, initially I didn't specify any android:windowSoftInputMode attribute, but even if I do, it doesn't make any difference; I tried all three values (adjustPan, adjustResize, adjustUndefined, without any difference).

Interestingly though: when I set my ListView visibility in my layout 1 (left) to View.INVISIBLE, then the layout doesn not get moved up!

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe typical method to obtain signal strength has been to extend the PhoneStateListener class and override the onSignalStrengthsChanged method. Anytime the signal strength changes the system will call this method passing in the new ASU.
Since this method is now deprecated as of Android 2.0, how are we suppose to go about obtaining the signal strength? I tried using the method above on Droid (CDMA) and the ASU passed in is always -1.

I have few queries on Android SQLiteDatabase
1.) As normally the database stored in internal memory, can we specify the path of external storage and use it in similar way ?
2.) How to determine the size of available space of database ? I used getMaximumSize() from SQLIteDatabase class but that gives me 1099511626752
Is this in bytes ? If assumed then this seems to be too large and not practical. I am using HTC G1 to test this.
3.) How can I determine the size of an entry in table ? Or do I have to pull the whole table and manually see its size. Is it same that would be in phone storage ?
4.) Can I check if any free space available before making entry in database ? I want to prevent SQLiteFullException.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an app that has a few checkboxes in the settings and then compiles a remote sql based on the checkboxes selected. i ran it in the emulator and it's fine. but then i exported it and published it as an app, and the same checked boxes aren't being passed correctly. i wonder if it's a caching issue or something. tried deleting the apks a few times and republish but to no avail. i "fake-edited" the source java and then export again, still no difference.
I'm kind of new to eclipse but is there a force build option? i only see build-automatically option under project but not sure how i can make sure that the apk exported is the same as run in the emulator
edit the emulator is version 1.5, and my phone is nexus one running 2.1- not sure if that makes a difference
Ok so here's the deal guys and gals, I am trying to have my phone assist me with my running. There are plenty of apps that will track my run via gps if I bring my phone on the run with me, but I don't wanna do that. I want to be able to map a course out, enter how long it took me, save the map and even share it with friends. Ideally the app would have the gps running features I mentioned above just on case I ever do start bringing my phone with me. If I call to a ContentProvider from a Activity, which thread is ContentProvider running in?
E.g. What happens if the Activity is killed and a query is executing in the ContentProvider? Say that you have a slow network query f.ex.
When I am developing for Android and repeatedly running and/or debugging an Android app in the emulator then about every two hours or so I get an Out-of-memory exception, occasionally also an out-of - resources- or out-of-GWT-handles exception. At that point one can only stop and restart eclipse. Apparently the ADK must be doing something wrong, because I have been developing with Eclipse now for 5+ years and I normally never see this. ADT is a really the exception here. Is there any setting or patch that helps top avoid this? I have already given it more heap space (750M) to stretch the time between these hickups a bit, but that approach isn't really sustainable.
This is using Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) and the Android SDK r06 running a FroYo AVD.
For my first application, the only testing I've really done to this point is on my Droid X. I want to think through the various hardware differences and come up with a testing plan that is representative of the Android landscape. My initial thought is to create a list of emulators that have unique qualities such as screen size and SDK levels. I've noticed very quickly how the UI of my application will need some adjustment when viewed on devices that don't carry a 4.3" screen. How have you approached this hurdle in your own development? View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter deleting a phone device from the emulator, I can no longer hit the green triangle button in eclipse and have it launch my application in the emulator. I had been developing for 2.0.1, but then decided to try my app out in 2.1. I created a phone device for 2.1 and tried running it. I encountered some problems. Eclipse pops up a dialog box: Problem Occurred, Launching "my app" had encountered a problem. An internal error occurred during: 'Launching my app". When I look at details, it says: An internal error occurred during: "Launching Pingo". java.lang.NullPointerException.
