Android :: Does Droid Determine Whether To Move Layout Up When Showing Softkeyboard?
Sep 6, 2010
How does Android determine whether to move the layout up when showing the softkeyboard?
Note: I am aware that the activity property android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize|adjustResize|adjustUnspecified"
exists, as described here http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/activity-element.html#wsoft
, but in my case it doesn't seem to have any effect. This is my problem:
I have two activities, pretty much the same layout, but the first one is using a ListView that holds a list of buttons. The second activity holds a scrollview with buttons.
The rest is the same, same number of buttons, same height of elements, etc.
Now, when I press the search button to open the search input bar, in my first activity, the entire layouts gets moved up.
While on the second activity, the layout is not being moved up but the softkeyboard just displays on top of it. This is actually how I want it to behave. How can I achieve the same with my activity that's using the ListView?
In my manifest, initially I didn't specify any android:windowSoftInputMode attribute, but even if I do, it doesn't make any difference; I tried all three values (adjustPan, adjustResize, adjustUndefined, without any difference).
This is my layout:
1) http://pastebin.com/5zzVxjbK
2) http://pastebin.com/KFtPuHvP
Interestingly though: when I set my ListView visibility in my layout 1 (left) to View.INVISIBLE, then the layout doesn not get moved up!

Is there any way to determine the layout of a physical keyboard (ex: QWERTY vs QWERTZ)(if there is one)? I would like to map commands to keyboard keys if there is a hardware keyboard available, but the layout is very important. I have had users from Germany complaining that layout is not optimized for their phones (since the Y and Z keys are swapped). Is there any way to automatically detect this, or am I stuck making it a setting?

I'm writing an android app, and in it I want to have a sort of title bar, with the name of the game, the score, and things like that. Then below that I want to have an grid of image views, which will kind of be like tiles on which I can display different characters in my game.
I have the following xml layout, but when I run it I get a black screen: code...
Can anyone see anything obvious I've done wrong?

I tried so many things to relocate buttons of a list. Relocate the current button is working but the older buttons not. To clarify the situation:
There are two Activities (Activity A and B). At Activity A I customize a button and pass it on Activity B via an intent. On Activity B I move the button somewhere on the screen. This will be done with other buttons. On Activity B I also want to show the old Buttons.code..
As above mentioned, I want to move the Buttons and set them somewhere on the screen (e.g. down right). But everytime I call Acitvity B again, all Buttons are located at top left. I thought it would be achieved with .

2.) How to add an image in a Dialog box?
EDIT: I added an image in background of Button. I want to move this button into right corner of Pop up Dialog. How to do that? And also i want to know how to move the entire Pop up Dialog itself into Top of the Layout screen?

I have a LinearLayout, when user selects my AutoCompleteTextView(ACTW) I want to move the whole layout upwards, so that the ACTW is at the top and there is space between the ACTW and software keyboard for suggestions. 1) How to do this? 2) How to make this animated (but this is not necessary)?

Hopefully this is just something easy since I'm still wet behind the ears with programming for android. My issue is that i have a couple EditText boxes at the bottom of my layout. When in the emulator they work as expected, you touch the edittext and the screen scrolls up so you can see the content. However when i try it on my droid inc the edittext is covered by the keyboard.

Relative noob working with Eclipse and Android.I just switched from Windows XP to Mac (Snow Leopard) and I'm having a little trouble getting Eclipse up and running the way I like it.I installed the Android Mac SDK, but my layout editor isn't showing me a preview of the activity layout, it's just showing me the XML tree, even when I'm on the design tab.Is there something I need to do to enable the layout editor in eclipse?

How do you stop the Android softkeyboard from displaying completed text in a TextView. It is very important for my application that the spelling is not shown. In 1.6 SDK I made the InputType = VisiblePassword and that seemed to stop it, however this does not appear to work in the 2.1 SDK.

I have a couple of questions about layout.
First, is moving things I don't use from where they are. It is possible to move the Browser icon off the home page?
On the first tap to the right I have the music application, and I never use that. I would like to use that space for App icons. Can I move that?
Finally, two taps to the left is the calender. Can I move that?

Does anyone know if there is a way to identify (in code, not LogCat) when the GC has run? Perhaps an intent is fired? I could analyze the LogCat output, but it would be ideal if I could determine when the GC has run from my code.

I have two android related needs:
1. I am trying to create a soft keyboard for android. I need someone to help me create the template for it: the service, the touch event capturing and sending of characters and sensing of the text buffer. Based on google's published document this seems to be standard stuff, for someone familiar with the platform. I will fill in the logic for the keyboard myself. So this is not a huge job, but a few hours of consulting dollars.
2. We are two programmers, trying to learn android. We are looking for a tutor of sort, whom we can pay hourly and talk to or skype with 2-3 hours a week. again, not a huge job, but a little money on the side.If you feel up to it, please contact me.

Is it possible to write an Softkeyboard without XML or is this the time I'll need it?The idea is: I have an Arraylist with buttons which have a specific position in the layout, height, width, text etc. Those buttons should create my keyboard by converting them into keys.If this won't work, my second idea is, to write a XML-File out of Java.I wonder if one of these ideas are possible.

I'm experimenting with Android's audio recording and playback. Is there a way to enumerate the available audio parameters on my device?
Right now, when I pass a combination of parameters that the hardware (or emulator) doesn't like, I just get an error. So I am having to "guess":code...
Surely there's a better way!
This chart indicates that the only supported audio input sampling rate is 8 kHz? Is that correct?

Is there a way I can find what resource a particular ImageButton is set to, at any given time?
For eg: I have an ImageButton that I set to R.drawable.btn_on onCreate. Later, at some point, the ImageButton gets set to R.drawable.btn_off. I want to be able to check what resource the ImageButton is set to in my code.

I have a layout that looks something like this:
[TextView 1] [TextView 2]
[ TextView 2 spill-over ]
Essentially, I need the contents of TextView 2 to wrap to the next line, but start where TextView 1 starts. I was thinking that if I knew how much text would fit into TextView 2 before it runs out of space on line one, I could take the rest of the text and put it in another TextView below the first two. So I need to measure how much text will fit into a TextView (which can be tricky because as far as I can tell, Android will try to break the text in a TextView at a good location so that it won't break a word in the middle if it can be avoided) or I need a new idea on how to lay this out.
