Android :: Add Chat Feature To App Which Runs On Both Iphone And Droid?

I would like to add a chat feature to my application, which runs on both iphone and android platform.
Do you have any idea on how to make this ?
I have seen that tutorial : http://mobileorchard.com/tutorial-networking-and-bonjour-on-iphone/, but I don't know if it will work using the android NDK
I have also think about writing the architecture client/server in C but I'm not sure if it's the good solution ..
Do you have any idea ?

In the iPhone or Android, if you have a JQuery Slider, it doesn't quite work (touchscreen will move the screen instead of drag the slider.)

Yes, unfortunately I have friends with iPhones. With iOS4, they can basically do a group text chat that has all the users receiving the messages from everyone in one location and all messages are saved. This is basically like a chat group using text messages. My question is whether android has any apps that can allow us to "join" these chats. I asked my friend to add me as a user to the chat but all that accomplishes is letting me get individual messages from each member of the chat. If I wanted to reply to the group, I would have to reply to each one individually.

I have a friend in Colorado(I am in SC) and we want to video chat. I have the bionic, he the iphone 4s. How do we do this? When I go to "talk" icon I am listed with GREEN camera by my email address. My friends name is listed and where I have a Green camera he has an "x". How can we hook up?

After looking through this site and others, it seems that there are a ton of great apps that support AIM and FB (eBuddy comes to mind), but none that support those two and Skype. So, does anyone know of an app that does this?

Does anyone know if there is a way to identify (in code, not LogCat) when the GC has run? Perhaps an intent is fired? I could analyze the LogCat output, but it would be ideal if I could determine when the GC has run from my code.

I'm developing a chat application that interacts with a chat server on a pc. I've created a login page that has a predefined username as password within it, however i wish to implement a system that checks the login name and password to a database. The coding for the login page is:

This little web page runs fine on my desktop but when selecting the area with a G-1 Android device (select box that says statewide..) the data refreshed with the requested data in the table but the text in the select box does not change,,, the other select boxes (month and year) work fine.. Fwiw the data is still rough and so is the gadget...
I've rebooted and restarted the g-1 to no avail..

The broader question, i guess, here is how to debug a web page on any android browser? we don't have a firebug equivalent..
Further I confirmed the same bug in the Moto Cliq browser (also old still a 1.5) very strange every once in a while the G-1 operates correctly, but I can't figure out how to get it to do it, just that every once in a while the select shows in the window when selected and the data refreshes..
I have verified that this seems to be a verified bug in the early browsers... so now I'm trying to figure a work around, I added setFocus on the select box but it is ignored on the Android G-1

I actually used this test tool from W3schools try-it site and it demonstrates the non-behavior in just a few lines..

I have three select boxes on the app so I need to display the selected info...as the selection is served.. not just initialization. FWIW the behavior seems to be on select boxes that have the selection dynamically loaded,, when I finish all three boxes will need dynamic loading now only the area box is dynamic, year/month are coded and so work.

Seems like since 2.1 my Droid runs hot when doing extended surfing or using the car dock. It gets very hot in the car dock (with GPS and navigation running). Combine that with the heat effects of the sun and the Droid gets very hot. Any one else notice this? Seems like this would be bad for both the Droid and the Droid battery. Normal?

I'm on fabs rom..one of chevs kernels overclocked at 1.0ghz same setup i had on my last droid
i get phones run diff from one another but it seems to matter wat kernel i throw at this its running hotter and doing basic things like just some light browsing sometimes get the processor up to 42-44 c
any tips on something i can possibly try

If you take out your battery, then plug in your Droid to the charger it turns on. I've always thought phones should do this, but I've never had one that did until now.It acts normal, as in still connects to data and voice, etc. I can't really see how this is too beneficial, but thinking back on the days of a blackberry, when those things' battery died the phone's data and voice would not turn on with or without the battery until about 20 minutes of charging.

I use the Motorola Backflip, and have been looking around for a suitable video chat app. What I'd like to do is be able to do is hold a video chat session with someone who only has access to the HTC Touch Pro 2, and a webcam enabled laptop.
I've tried Qik, but that doesn't seem to work properly on my phone. What happens is I can start recording, but if anything interrupts it at all, I won't be able to start recording again until I restart my phone.

When I run the app in Eclipse, Android emulator starts but says "Bluetooth is not available". Need urgent help with this.
Also need help with running/installing an app on real phone. I connected my HTC Desire (Android 2.2), enabled USB debugging and run the app from Eclipse. Emulator starts as usual instead of the app running on my phone.

In android phone app, I use touch screen to dial a number. And then I place the phone next to my ear for the phone call. And android will show 'Double Tab to unlock' on screen to disable anything activated/touched.
Can you please tell me how can I do that in my own application?

When a group message is sent between my co-workers, who are all iphone users, and myself (Note 3), one person in the exchange does not receive the text. This is not the common iMessage issue that was plaguing me when I made the switch from Apple to Android. This is specifically affecting one iphone user. When I send her a text individually it is not a problem. The other iPhone users don't have a problem receiving or sending to me.

I have an app that has a few checkboxes in the settings and then compiles a remote sql based on the checkboxes selected. i ran it in the emulator and it's fine. but then i exported it and published it as an app, and the same checked boxes aren't being passed correctly. i wonder if it's a caching issue or something. tried deleting the apks a few times and republish but to no avail. i "fake-edited" the source java and then export again, still no difference.
I'm kind of new to eclipse but is there a force build option? i only see build-automatically option under project but not sure how i can make sure that the apk exported is the same as run in the emulator
edit the emulator is version 1.5, and my phone is nexus one running 2.1- not sure if that makes a difference

Ok so here's the deal guys and gals, I am trying to have my phone assist me with my running. There are plenty of apps that will track my run via gps if I bring my phone on the run with me, but I don't wanna do that. I want to be able to map a course out, enter how long it took me, save the map and even share it with friends. Ideally the app would have the gps running features I mentioned above just on case I ever do start bringing my phone with me. E.g. What happens if the Activity is killed and a query is executing in the ContentProvider? Say that you have a slow network query f.ex.

With 1.5 I was able to go to the full facebook site and do the facebook chat thing at the bottom right (though it didn't often work very well). now with 2.1 i am having trouble with this. the little chat window/bar only seems to show up when i zoom all the way out, and then it kind of disappears when i try and touch it or zoom in.

When I am developing for Android and repeatedly running and/or debugging an Android app in the emulator then about every two hours or so I get an Out-of-memory exception, occasionally also an out-of - resources- or out-of-GWT-handles exception. At that point one can only stop and restart eclipse. Apparently the ADK must be doing something wrong, because I have been developing with Eclipse now for 5+ years and I normally never see this. ADT is a really the exception here. Is there any setting or patch that helps top avoid this? I have already given it more heap space (750M) to stretch the time between these hickups a bit, but that approach isn't really sustainable.
This is using Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) and the Android SDK r06 running a FroYo AVD.

For my first application, the only testing I've really done to this point is on my Droid X. I want to think through the various hardware differences and come up with a testing plan that is representative of the Android landscape. My initial thought is to create a list of emulators that have unique qualities such as screen size and SDK levels. I've noticed very quickly how the UI of my application will need some adjustment when viewed on devices that don't carry a 4.3" screen. How have you approached this hurdle in your own development?
