View 10 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with my application when a user gets a system update (for example from 2.1 to 2.2). i am wondering how I can reproduce this experience on a phone (Nexus One). does this involve rooting the phone and then applying a system update? I need the update to look as though it came from the system. In other words, I can't take a full ROM image, because then I think I would lose my application being installed between upgrades.

Can I change my operating system from windows ce6 To Android?? And how??
I was just thinking that one day in the near future we will have Google operating systems on all of our devices i.e. phone, laptop, and tablet/pad. I am not sure what if any difference between Chrome and Android and how this will affect the likes of Microsoft and Apple. I believe that you can now download the complete Chrome operating system and install it on our laptops etc. See this link Google Android OS Now Available For Download. What are your thoughts on google operating systems.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI've mapped my android phone as a network drive using Samba and changed the smb.conf file to show the System Root directory as well. However, system root is default set as R/O so to mange files USING my computer I need to change the permission to R/W using a file manager (such as root explorer). This is annoying, as I have to keep doing this in order to write to certail directories.
I would like the / directory (root) to be mounted as R/W as default so that I can quickly edit files on my PC without having to constantly change it to R/O. I want something that will automatically mount my phone's root dir into rw upon boot, without custom apps/having to manually mount as rw everytime it reboots.
Context: Today im investigating how works android classes:
android.provider.Settings.Secure and android.provider.Settings.System
both works over settings.db into
data/data/com.google.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db.
There is something that surprised me:
When I had never changed one of settings, for example LOCK_PATTERN_ENABLED, the method:
getString(ContentResolver resolver, String name) returned null.
By default lock pattern is disabled when i activated it, method returned 1 and then when disabled returned 0.
My question: is true that when you havent changed the value of a setting, the system goes to look for its default value out of settings.db? and is true that this value at settings.db until you change it is null?
I've read some post about it, but no one working against api. For who may be interested: [URL] .......
I decompiled Settings.apk, SettingsProvider.apk and Phone.apk. There you can find some bools.xml where are stablished default values for some settings I've not found yet every setting I need.
I've come over from a Window's based phone and love the Incredible, but am having a problem with pictures that I can't find an answer to in the manual.
I simply want to save all the pictures I take with the phone to the SD card so I can transfer the entire file later to dedicated photography software to be cataloged and tweaked.
I can't find how to set up the system so that every photo goes directly to the SD card by default.
With the New Update Do this For me?
adb pull /system C:BH2 ( C:BH2 = Your File Folder ) then upload the file's and Post them here?
Since I'm still waiting on the Update myself, I've had a brief chat with my Source at Samsung & he confirmed there isn't nothing life chaning in the kernel regarding problems. All fixes was addressed mainly to the OS it's self.
The Faster I can get the System Dump of the Update, the Faster I roll out updates to the system.img for everyone..
My OEM's preloaded rom is almost-nearly stock, apart from 2 things:
1. White background on "system settings" interface and not the default holo. Cant that be changed to default?
2. Ribbon effect instead of flash-light in holo effect, which tbh is quite annoying, because the ribbon effect is also quite large and in slower animation speed so that,s 1 second of frustation everytime i scroll to the end. (Yea, 1 second isnt much but, add those up and it gets annoying really fast)
How can these be changed back to default without installing a custom rom?
I'm having trouble trying to use a list in my activity. Once I try to run it, however, my app just "quits unexpectedly". It's got to be something wrong with the XML, since the activity is just the default setContentView(R.layout.main); Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have started to work with the WebView component of Android Platform, but the API to load data to the component is confusing me, because it includes a parameter with a encoding. In both methods: public void loadData (String data, String mimeType, String encoding); public void loadDataWithBaseURL (String baseUrl, String data, String mimeType, String encoding, String historyUrl); you have to specify an encoding. In both cases, the API documentation says that is is the encodign of the data (data parameter). Well, as know, if you provide data as a String object, the String is internally stored in UTF-16 (unicode). To get a String object from a external source, you need to specify the external source encoding to convert it to UTF-16 and get the String internal representation (String(byte[] data, String encoding)). So, at this moment, when you have an String instance, everything from the original source has been converted to UTF-16. So, why do you need to specify an encoding if you are providing the data as a String object?
I don't know the internal implementation of WebKit, but let's suppose that, WebKit has a method, to render a source, providing as content an InputStream and a default encoding. Well, as I know, when you process a HTML page, you use the default encoding to read the HTML characters, and if you find a <meta> tag specifing a different encoding, from that moment, you have to use the new encoding to decode the characters of the HTML page. But what happens if you supply a HTML page that contains this <meta> tag: <meta HTTP-EQUIV="content-type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"/> using one of the methods specified at the top of this post, how are you going to read ISO-8859-1 encoding from a String that it is in UTF-16 encoding? if the WebKit filtering this <meta> tags, and doesn't taking in account the encoding specified in this tag? Well, all of this is very confusing for me, because I don't understand why the API includes this encoding parameter. I also don't know if the <meta> encoding tags are filtered when the source is provided as a String? Can anyone solve my doubts?
I am facing a problem about encoding.
For example,
I have a message in xml format encoding is "UTF-8".
CODE:.........
Now, this message are supporting multiple language.
Traditional Chinese (big5), Simple Chinese (gb), English (utf-8)
And it will only change the encoding in specific fields.
For example (Traditional Chinese),
CODE:..........
Only "蘋果" and "橙" are using big5, "<product_name>" and "</product_name>" stills in use utf-8.
<price>1.3</price> and <price>1.2</price> are using utf-8.
How do I know which word is using different encoding?
I'm working on an application using the SMS apis for android. The receiving end is an embedded unit that only supports 7-bit encoded SMS and the string I'm sending consists only of symbols from this particular alphabet which makes you think that Android is going to send it encoded as 7 bit. But that is not the case. Therefore I'm searching for a way to specify what encoding to use. See below for what my code looks like today. The method gsm7BitPackedToString turns a byte-array to a 7-bit string, i.e. the string only consists of 7-bit compatible characters and is copied from the internal android api. Code...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've added one new feature to Opencore & Framework to let them support encoding qcelp. But I found that Eclipse cannot figure out this new feature, e.g.
recorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.RAW_QCELP);recorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.QCELP);
Eclipse now does not think RAW_QCELP & QCELP as legal symbols. So, what should I do to update the SDK to pass though this issue? Overwrite its system.img, boot.img or some *.jar packages?
I found a problem with GZIP input stream when wrapping InputStream from HttpURLConnection. When the server response with Transfer- Encoding=chunked, Content-Encoding=gzip and Connection=Keep-Alive. The second post always return -1. After digging into the source code, I found the place that could be a bug: InflaterInputStream.java (line 190 to 192) if (inf.needsInput()) { fill(); } Because InflaterInputStream doesn't need more input, it doesn't try to read the end of chunked encoding (0x)(30 0a 0d) that cause the second post to return with -1 every time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a specific problem that is preventing me using the android SDK from work. We are using a MS Proxy here that all internet traffic has to go through. The problem seems to be when the emulator is trying to access a site that uses 'Transfer-Encoding: chunked' If I attempt to download www.nds.com (no chunked encoding) into the browser, it works fine. However if I try to go to www.google.com (uses chunked encoding), the browser fails with the message: can't determine content length, and client wants to keep connection opened My feeling (and I'm no expert in this area) is that the underlying code managing the communication through the proxy is not dealing with the null terminator on the chunk encoded response when the connection to the proxy is being kept open? Does anyone have any experience in this area? Is the source to the emulator available so I can try and understand what is going on here?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy input is a InputStream which contains an XML document. Encoding used in XML is unknown and it is defined in the first line of XML document.
From this InputStream, I want to have all document in a String.
To do this, I use a BufferedInputStream to mark the beginning of the file and start reading first line. I read this first line to get encoding and then I use an InputStreamReader to generate a String with the correct encoding.
It seems that it is not the best way to achieve this goal because it produces an OutOfMemory error.
Any idea, how to do it ? code...

View 13 Replies View RelatedIs there any app, flag or something similar that can be used to bypass the proximity sensor in the HTC Legend? I mean something that makes the screen stay on all the time during a call, neglecting the proximity sensor, as if it is in the speaker mode (but without the speaker on, I don't like people listening my conversations. My problem is the proximity sensor not working. I purchased an unlocked Legend a month ago in the Manchester (UK) airport free shop. I live in Brazil and travel to USA frequently. The phone is under warranty, but for me is too far to send it to Europe for fixing (no maintenance for Legend in Brazil and even in USA, if I knew it I would never buy this thing.)When in a call, the screen and keys go off and there is no way to bring them back. The sensor seems to "think" that the phone is near my head all the time immediately after a call is made or received. Only way to bring the screen and keys back is soft reset even after the end of the call.I already tried all the typical solutions and I don't use any kind of cover over the device, and by comparison with one that works I am sure that there is a problem with the sensor. I just don't want to stay more than a month without the phone and spend nearly the same that I spent in the phone in transportation to send it for fixing, so if there is something just to bypass the sensor it will be much better for me.
