I love the ROMs, and in the next upcoming weeks when I receive a second phone I will be able to start helping with some development.
Till then, I was wondering if anyone had the version of swype with all the languages, or a package to add certain languages? i have searched for a while, but cant seem to find the download anywhere.

I read http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/resources-i18n.html. But it shows how to localize your app for the currently selected locale of the phone. However, I want to add a "language" option into my own app, and allow the user to switch the UI language independent of the phone's locale setting.
My currently solution is to manage a string table myself, and dynamically edit the text string of every UI element. However, this is rather tedious. Is there a better way?

Does anyone know of some alternative JVM language, however obscure it might be, which can compile to plain old java bytecode, without the need of a language runtime.I need this in order to try to develop android applications without startup or size penalty. Scala, Clojure and Groovy all require its own runtime library distributed with the application, so they are out of the scope of this question. The only one language which claims to satisfy this goal is Charles Nutter's Mirah, but I couldn't make it to work on windows. To clarify a bit, I know any language has to have runtime library. Obviously, what I am looking for is a language that has no additional runtime required besides JRE, or at least very limited one.

I think the standard battery is 1100mAh (1.1 amps at 3.7V for one hour), which is generally good enough for me, but there have been a few times on travel when an extended battery would have been useful. USB provides 5 (FIVE) volts to the unit, which is regulated down to charge the internal 3.7V single lithium cell. It should be trivial to build a battery pack to recharge any product that is so powered. But you cannot use external lithium because that would also be 3.7V.
I'm thinking of NiMH (nickel metal hydride), each cell of which provides 1.2VDC. Four cells in series would be 4.8V, and there are now 3000mAh (three amp!) AA cells out there, so NiMH AA cells should more than triple battery life for the Eris. Of course, you could use five such cells to get 6.0VDC, then regulate down to 5, but that would add complexity. I didn't find any posts on building such a thing, and wonder if anyone's done it.

Would appreciate if anybody can give me some pointers on how to mixed different language in an android app? For example, mixing displaying English along w/ Spanish, or Chinese by using Unicode for the Spanish or Chinese characters.
I have searched the post in this group but doesn't seem to find any discussion about this..

I've got an iphone app and I'm looking to port some of the data-layer objective-c code to a scripting language which can also run on an android phone. Any suggestions on what to use? I'd also like to be able to push new scripts to the app for bug fixes. Not sure if this is against the iphone SDK agreement or not.

Supposedly the new version of GDE allows icon packs, but I haven't seen any that are specifically for it and I tried one or two others and they didn't show up in the Icon section of the appearance menu. I have downloaded BetterCut but don't really care to learn how to make my own shortcuts for every app that I want to change the looks of. Do I just wait till someone makes specific packs for GDE or?

Is it possible to pack resources in a way that they get distributed with apk? I know it's impossible to use subfolders in res's directories (drawable, raw, etc)... so I was wondering if I can create folder (data) and somehow tell compiler to include all resources from that folder - and later access them with InputStream (without using R.)

I bought an HTC Magic today and, as I always did with other phones too, set the language to english. The problem is I happen to write a lot of messages (email and SMS) in italian too.Is there a way to set the completion language separately from the GUI language? Even better if during the editing of a message would be possible to switch the language, as possible with Nokia phones. Please note that in the subject I mentioned erroneusly T9 which has nothing to do with completion, as I now learned.

I made some Icons just for fun so I thought I'd share them. Plenty of different Androids in different colors and then you'll find plenty of random things. Also theres one called invisible, I like to keep my main screen as clean and simple as possible. So I used the invisible .png image to create an icon for gmail and texting, the 2 things I use the most. On my main screen I only have a search bar and the two invisible icons, everything else is on other pages. But anyways the invisible one is in there if anyone wants to use it. Use better cut or something like that to use these.
I'm using Nextheme.

I'm also using the invisible widgets morph.

I added some PAC-Man style icons, several different characters, and 2 androids and other randoms. I found these and made icons with them, I did not create them.

I need to save these configurations into a file, and in my app I could change these configurations. In other words, I need a file to take all my config data, and in my app, I could read/write this file as I want.
I've searched document and mailing list archive, and have not found the exact solution. 1. SharedPreferences could not solve : It could only do with simple key/value pairs, my configuration data is more complex . 2. file in /assets , /res/raw could not solve: It seems that the file in these position would be read only
I've found a way, it almost solved my problem, but still not. Our code could deal with the file in /data/data/package-name/files on the target file system, this is good to me, but how could I put my file in this directory after my app has been installed? My app need to read these configurations when it starts.
My question is how could I pack my data file into my apk package, and then my app could read/write this file when it is run.
