Aug 7, 2010I'm writing a JNI library for a game. I have java code that I want to replace with functions from the library. Is it true that most of the devices out there are compatible with my code if I compile it for the default arm processor, or will I find that there are many devices out there that my library won't run on? What I'm asking is, should I maintain java code that does the same thing as my jni library for compatibility purposes, or is it safe to have jni libraries alone? How large is the group of devices that cannot use the libraries I write? Where are there stats regarding what population is using processors other than the arm processors?

Now my customer would like to know if it can be made backward compatible with API level 4 (1.6). Does anyone know if there are any tools that can do a simple analysis of my code and list for me any API calls I have that and their API levels (preferably sorted, though I can do this if I can export the info)?
This seems like a very useful tool if someone has it? (I'm not expecting a full static code analysis, just API levels of all API calls in a project)...

Feb 13, 2012I am currently working on an open source collection of Android APIs that will be collected into a toolkit. Essentially, this toolkit is intended to ease coding pains for developers by simplifying things such as network operations, file operations, etc..
I already have a bunch of things planned, such as PHP POST and GET operations, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP operations, File management operations (creating files, downloading files, parsing files, etc...). What other kinds of operations do you all think could be simplified or even just want an alternative to?

Well, I am using microwindows for last one year and not satisfied with it as it does not have BSP (Binary Space Partitionin) in its windowing system , No shared memory support for bitmaps. I think Microwindows is just optimized for memory-size not for speed.

Sep 16, 2010I've been developing Android application for quite awhile now. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know the UI toolkit and 2D graphics API aren't hardware accelerated (the official documentation states that Canvas is not accelerated). I've found that most non- trivial animation or blending operations are painfully slow even on mid-level devices like a Droid, even after taking much time to optimize my code.
I'd like to know what the rationale is for not providing hardware support for these frameworks? Wouldn't it be possible to at least make it optional for vendors to implement support? Does anyone have any additional information about this issue?

Feb 19, 2013My son rooted ny Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-i317). After 3D Launcher crashed it, I tried the Galaxy Toolkit offered by mskip. It seemed to work well. I set the phone back to completely stock. (in the hopes of rooting again). But now I get these messages
a) google.process.gapps has stopped
b) Contacts has stopped
c) Gallery has stopped
When I try to dial a number the phone freezes after the first number then suts down. Contacts open in a plain black screen.

Nov 20, 2010I recently decided to try out making my app tentatively "GoogleTV ready" by ensuring a user can do everything without ever entering Touch mode. For most stuff it is pretty straight forward, but I'm scratching my head at MapView/ItemizedOverlay: The docs appear to indicate that onTap(index) should do the trick, but it seems not to work the way I expect it to. "onTap ... This could be from a touchscreen tap on an onscreen Item, or from a trackball click on a centered, selected Item..."
Working around it using onTrackballEvent() and perhaps an onFocusChangeListener seems possible, but the documentation appears to indicate that this should not be needed for simple cases, right? I get the circle in the center and can move around with the D-pad/trackball, but when trying to select, hitTest() is not called and onTap(index) appears to be called with stale info. Anyone got a working code snippet? (Mark's NooYawk sadly doesn't work and googling came up with blanks apart from questions without answers).
