Android :: Click On Status Bar Notification Switch To Task In Current State?

Aug 16, 2009

My applications carries on processing when the user presses the home key, and generates status bar notifications if something happens the user requested to be notified about.

If a user holds the home key and then selects the application, it is restored in its correct state with the activity on top that showed when the user left.

However, since the intent that is associated with the status bar notification is FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK and I put in the class name of the activity that launched the application (I assume this is what I must do?), the launcher activity is started when the notification is "clicked". I can then switch the application back to the current activity by starting that "active" activity again, but then I seem to have two instances of the activity in memory, since I have to press back twice to leave it. And I suspect my activity stack is then messed up as well.

I have set the launcher activity to be singleTask, but that only helped a bit. From my reading I thought this would just give the task focus if the launcher activity is not on top, but instead it gives the launcher activity the focus.

Is there a way for a notification click to work more like the task switcher provided by long pressing the home button?

Android :: Blocking Current Activity / Screen Till Current Task Is Complete

May 13, 2010

The default behavior of an activity when BACK softkey is pressed is, GO BACK TO PREVIOUS ACTIVITY. If some the same activity is waiting for some response from server or some data updation is going on and then press BACK, I want to wait on the same screen till the current task is completely processed and then move out to the previous activity.

Android :: Get Current Sensor State?

Feb 7, 2010

Yes, I can get sensor update events with SensorEventListener. But this approach has 2 drwwbacks:

1) For some sensors I have to wait for the state to update. For example, temperature may update after a minute!

2) In some cases I can get incorrect readings. For example, the phone lies on a flat surface and does not move. I receive first orientation update event after listener registration. When only a part of the orientation vector changes, other parts may be 0. And it is no way to determine, is it a true 0 degree azimuth or just an incomplete vector. If I move the phone a little, the correct non-zero azimuth appears.

To solve this problems it's possible to create a separate thread that constantly monitors sensors. After some time it will certainly contain true values. But I think that it is an overhead for such simple task.

Is it any other way to get current sensor data?

Android :: Phone Won't Save Current State Of An Activity / Way To Do

Nov 17, 2010

I am trying to save some values in the onSaveInstanceState(Bundle) method of my activty by following the example here: How do I save an Android application's state?

But it doesnt seem to load it from the Oncreate(). the bundle object is always null but whenever i call another activity, it does indeed go into the onSaveInstanceState method to save my values.

Now i read that question i just posted and someone noted how they could not get it to work in an emulator? unfortunately that is all im working on. On an emulator and cant test the app on the device as i have no device available to me right now And the web services i am interacting with are in a local VM on my work machine that cannot be accesses remotely at the moment.

My question is, is it true that saved bundles dont work on emulators? I also noticed how when i do dismiss or bring up a new activity , the activity calles onPause and then onStop. when i bring back the same activty, it goes straight to onCreate?

now according to the docs here http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/fundamentals.html#actlife That is correct in terms of what the lifecycle diagram shows but if you read below that diagram on the onStop() section it says the next step it goes into is either onRestart() or onDestroy()? no mention of onCreate? Type on the docs?

Anyways here is my onSaveInstanceState() and onCreate() both in the same activity: code...

General :: Factory Reset Is Resetting Current ROM To Original State

May 23, 2012

When I do factory reset (which means the same as 'wipe', right?) it does resetting current installed ROM to its original state, right?

So, let's say I am doing factory reset the first time (so currently my phone has store ROM installed) so factory reset will revert all the changes in the installed ROM (such as settings, installed apps, all the data) to its original state - which the phone had since it got ROM installed.

But If I got root (which means I replaced secured kernel with unsecured one) and I installed another customized ROM and for some reason I want to do factory reset again - what's gonna happen?

Will factory reset revert original store ROM back or it will revert manually installed ROM (customized ROM) to its after installation?

And as far as I understood factory reset does nothing with kernel? It only affects ROM? So in the second case , when I use non-store ROM and I am doing factory reset - nothing will happen with my unsecured kernel?

Android :: How To Detect If Current Stack Of Activities (task) Moves To Background?

Jul 23, 2010

The official documentation describes tasks as follows: All the activities in a task move together as a unit. The entire task (the entire activity stack) can be brought to the foreground or sent to the background. Suppose, for instance, that the current task has four activities in its stack three under the current activity. The user presses the HOME key, goes to the application launcher, and selects a new application (actually, a new task). The current task goes into the background and the root activity for the new task is displayed. Then, after a short period, the user goes back to the home screen and again selects the previous application (the previous task). That task, with all four activities in the stack, comes forward. Is there a way to programmatically detect when the task of the current Activity moves into and out of the background? I would like to know when the user has switched switched to another application, vs. when the user navigated to another Activity in the current app.

Android :: Close Activity Hierarchy In Droid / Show New Not Present In Current Task?

Sep 26, 2010

How do I close a whole hierarchy of activities and show a new activity not present in the current task?

Context

Consider a FTP browser that resumes the previous session on launch. Each folder is displayed in its own activity. When I click on a folder, a new activity is started for the folder. If I press the back button, the app returns to the previous activity, which corresponds to the the parent folder.

I can logoff from the menu at any time. Logging off should bring me to the login activity (not present the current task when the app has resumed the session), and close all the other activities. How can I do this?

From what I've read, if the activity were in the current task I could use FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP in the intent, but this is not my case.

Android :: ActivityManager - Warning -Activity Not Started Its Current Task Has Been Brought To The Front

It doesn't give me an error it says exactly this when I run the android emulator

"[2010-08-25 09:12:42 - doppler_test] ActivityManager: Warning: Activity not started, its current task has been brought to the front"

What I think this means is that the intent of the bluetooth function and the button intent is only operation on a hierarchy system. What I mean by this is that if I were to move the button opperator above the Bluetooth stuff the button will work, but currently when the app is run Bluetooth works but when I press the search button nothing happens.

What else may be helpful is my XML code for the button so here it is......

Samsung Moment :: Google Calendar Widget Doesn't Default To Current Day / When You Click On It

Dec 11, 2009

I've now had and used my Samsung Moment for a full month now, and I have to say this is the best phone I have ever used.

I carry multiple smartphones on me, usually a Blackberry of some sort, Palm Treos / Centros, iPhone, and now my Samsung Moment. While all the smartphones are really good, the Samsung Moment has been really great.

Despite all the complaints you read here, I have only had a couple of minor annoyances:

1. The Google Calendar widget doesn't default to the current day when you click on it. I have accidentally entered appointments for "today" when I realize a bit later that it was on another day that I had scrolled to previously. I hope there will be a setting to always display the current day in the future.

2. I use Astrid to sync my to do list with Remember The Milk. Anytime I add a new task if I'm using the physical keyboard, and slide it shut and go to the portrait mode for the virtual keyboard, somehow my text is wiped clean and I have to start from scratch again.

The battery life is excellent. Based on my moderate use, I easily get 2-3 days out of my phone, which is as good as my Palm Centro or my Blackberries.So glad I have this phone, can't wait for future updates though to play with.

Android :: Android - Changing Checked Status On Click

Aug 23, 2010

I have a listview that needs to be multiple choice (i.e each list item has a checkbox which can be checked / unchecked). The list view is in a tabhost and is the content for teh first tab. My set up is like so: My tab is set up with:

TabSpec tab = tabHost.newTabSpec("Services");
tabHost.addTab(tabHost.newTabSpec("tab_test1").setIndicator("Services").setContent(new Intent(this, ServiceList.class)));

When the tab is clicked new activity ServiceList is started. ServiceList is defined as such:
public class ServiceList extends ListActivity{ private EscarApplication application;
ListView listView; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.service_list);
ServiceList.this.application = (EscarApplication) this.getApplication();
final ListView listView = getListView();
} protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { String.valueOf(id); Long.toString(id); ( (CheckedTextView) v).setChecked(true);
super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id);
} @Override public void onStart() { super.onStart();
//Generate and display the List of visits for this day by calling the AsyncTask
GenerateServiceList services = new GenerateServiceList();
int id = ServiceList.this.application.getVisitId();
services.execute(id); listView = getListView(); listView.setChoiceMode(ListView.CHOICE_MODE_MULTIPLE);
} //The AsyncTask to generate a list private class GenerateServiceList extends AsyncTask<Integer, String, Cursor> { // can use UI thread here protected void onPreExecute() {
} // automatically done on worker thread (separate from UI thread) protected Cursor doInBackground(Integer...params) { int client_id = params[0];
ServiceList.this.application.getServicesHelper().open();
Cursor cur = ServiceList.this.application.getServicesHelper().getPotentialVisitServices(client_id);
return cur;
} // can use UI thread here protected void onPostExecute(Cursor cur){ startManagingCursor(cur);
// the desired columns to be bound String[] columns = new String[] {ServicesAdapter.KEY_SERVICE};
// the XML defined views which the data will be bound to int[] to = new int[] {R.id.display_service};
SimpleCursorAdapter mAdapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(ServiceList.this, R.layout.service_list_element, cur, columns, to);
// set this adapter as your ListActivity's adapter ServiceList.this.setListAdapter(mAdapter);
ServiceList.this.application.getServicesHelper().close();
} } }
So, everything works ok until I click on my list item to change the checkbox state. The part of teh code set to handle click events is causing me problems:
protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { String.valueOf(id);
Long.toString(id); ((CheckedTextView) v).setChecked(true); super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id);
}
My understanding is that the View v passed to the onListItemClick method reperesents my list element, so I am trying to cast v as a CheckedTextView and set teh checked value to true, however this just causes my app to crash.

Android :: Click On Notification Does Not Work

Dec 24, 2009

I have a strange problem here and spent too many hours figuring out what the problem might be. I definitely need your help here now... I'm pretty sure this is very easy to fix... if you know how... I develop a little free app for German O2 customers so that they can send their 50 free Web-SMS directly from their Android phone and not only via web interface like O2 wants them to. These SMS are sent in the background using a service. This service generates notifications (e.g. Message sent successfully, Login successful/failed,...)

When I click on that notification the app should open and then display the notification message. This works pretty fine as long as the app is visible (foreground/active). When putting the app into the background it's getting launched as well, but it doesn't display the message... then, when I hold down the HOME-Key and select the app... the message gets displayed..........................
