View 4 RepliesThere are several apps that I have tried out and for various reasons the app didn't suit my needs so I uninstalled the app. Some of these apps were very close to what I was looking for so it is possible that a future upgrade to the app would make the app useful for my needs. In these cases, it would be nice to be able to have a list of these apps and get notified when an update is available. Is there a way to get notified of or monitor updates to an app that is not installed? I realize that I could just leave all these apps installed even though I wouldn't use them and then I would get update notifications through the marketplace, but that is just a waste of space and clutters the app drawer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning I power cycled my Eris for for first time in a week or so. After that, the notificaton area said I have four updates waiting.I think I selected the "My Tracks" app for update, but when I did, it told me to make sure I had at least 40% battery charge, the phone would be unusable during the update, etc., and it proceeded to install the OTA update to build 1.17.605.1.That's fine, but now the phone doesn't show any apps with available updates. Will these apps automatically notify me again that updates are available? Do all apps routinely check?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI went into the notification bar to see I had two updates for apps that I have. However only a second or two after the notification window was up it suddenly disappeared and kicked me back to my home screen. When I returned to the notification window the app update notifications were no longer there. Is there a way that I can make my Droid go check for updates again?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Android. What happens when there are updates available to apps that I've installed from the market, and the pre-installed apps? Do I have to update it manually, and how? Or do they get updated automatically? I read that a new version of Google Maps is out, but I don't know how to update. My version does not display driving directions.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I install an app via apk file (because let's say the app is not yet available in Play but the apk was leaked), will I be able to get updates through Play once it has arrived there? Or will I have to reinstall the app from the Play Store and loose all app-related data (for example game states...)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Website, which is built upon a CMS, written in PHP. And now i'm trying to develop an App. I want the app to check for Updates on the website every time it starts, for example, if a new article is added to the website, a news about this publishment should be displayed on the app.My knowledge in this area is very poor. Can somebody tell me, what i should do on the website and what should be done on the app?
View 1 Replies View Relatedis there a setting somewhere on the phone that controls how often the phone will check on the market for updates to apps you already have installed? If not, what is the default, as in how often does the phone check?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know there isn't a firmware update but for the past 2 days when I go in and check for Firmware updates it says "checking for Firmware update" then it just dissapears, it no longer comes back with "No update available". Anyone else having this problem? I powercycled and pulled the battery and it still does this. It also fails updating my profile and fails updating the PRL. All other data features work just fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOne thing I noticed with the market is it seems to periodically check for updates, but it doesn't seem to check that often. It seems like the Market application waits for a group of apps to get updated at once before it notifies you, or it seems to only check for updates on a certain day where app updates are rolled out onto the Android market (similar to PSN/XBL updates)
how to force the Market application to check for updates to my apps? I was thinking maybe going to the Market app in the system settings and clearing cache/data, but I was wondering if there's some other way to do it.
What is the easiest way to programmatically check if the Market app is installed?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am calling my application from clicking on button in web-page. I made that activity as BROWSABLE. It is working fine when I open that web-page in android emulator and click on button; i.e. it is opening the application. View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a signed apk. I uploaded it to marketplace as usual. I also installed a copy of it on a device directly, perhaps as an email attachment. If I upload an updated version of the app to the marketplace, will the device be notified that a new version of the app exists on marketplace? Or does that update-alert system depend on the app being originally installed through marketplace?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased an unlocked HTC Desire. As you may or may not know, here in Australia the only carrier of the Desire is Telstra. However I use 3 mobile so that's the reason I purchased an unlocked device.
My problem is that my phone has about a dozen or more apps which are installed by Telstra and uninstallable. Most of them are 100% useless because I'm not even on their network and I'd like them out of my applications list.
I've had a read around and I saw something about being able to remove them by deleting the file and then uninstalling them using a command prompt program.
Would anyone please be able to give me detailed instructions on how to do this because I'm not sure how to find the system/apps folder and I'm also not sure on how to get the command prompt thing to work.
I was wondering if the market checks if the application can be installed on the device. For example, if I have an Android 1.6 and if I try to install an application with :"<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="7" />" on its manifest. What will happend ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've noticed this before but haven't given it much thought, but I've noticed that it seems that certain apps are running in the background for no reason. I usually notice this by checking task killer. However, just now while using another app, I got a force-close error for ShopSavvy, which hasn't been used in several days.
Why would something like this run randomly in the background? Is it part of an update check? Any ideas?
I have recently updated about 10 apps manually that I already had on my G1, since I saw them relisted in the market (again) but higher up on the "by date" tab. This system is horrid. If a user has an app and a new release comes online it should not only notify the user it should offer to auto update and the first screen that pops up should be a release notes screen so we know why it was updated and what to look for.Another more minor annoyance is that devs seems to lose track of download counts and comments in new vers. This is much more minor, but useful to both the community and the device. If anyone from Android peeks in here, hopefully this makes a list of suggested improvements.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some pre-installed applications on my G1 (IM, HiDialer, some Chinese appplications etc.) But i cannot uninstall them. It just says: uninstall not succesful. I read some other topics about this and there werent many answers. Only thing some people reply is just: get rooted. What if I am rooted? Then how do I uninstall them?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on an app that will be shipped on some phones. I have been thinking about how to update them once a new version is ready. How that would work for a pre-installed app? As an initial thought I think I could pop up a message letting the user know there is a new version ready, but if I could avoid unnecessary request to the server it would be better. If a google engineer comes across this please give me a hint as you do this for Google Maps.

I wasn't able to figure out how to extract their correspondent version information.
