Android :: Changing The Arrow Image In ExpandableListActivity
Aug 19, 2010
I have created an activity that extends ExpandableListActivity class.
I want to customize the look and feel of my expandable list activity. I have achieved the customization of list selectors.
What i want next is to change the default "expandable arrow" image that comes.

Does anyone know how to change the direction of the unlock arrow? I use my phone in my left hand so it would be much more handy to use the phone if I could change the direction of the arrow. Currently the arrow goes from bottom left side of screen to the middle right side and this causes me to have to use both hands to use the phone even to do the simplest of tasks.
I want to be able to have the unlock arrow go from the bottom right side of the screen to the middle left side. This option would be a more normal flowing one handed function for me.
Is there an option for this? I have tried to find it and can not see it anywhere. I sure hope this can be changed because this is becoming very anoying. I like the swoop idea and think it could be handy and better than my old iPhone option but I need the direction change.

Just started testing my games in 1.6 and the first thing I notice is that on the landscape ones, the dpad up/down/left/right orientation doesn't switch 90 degrees like it did on all emulators before.
The device trackball/dpad will still change with orientation (right becomes up on landscape, etc..), right?

Using com.example.android.notepad and ExpandableList2.java from com.example.android.apis.view, I have written a simple application that contains a content provider serving two tables in an sqlite database and a display activity that uses my ExpandableListActivity subclass. I am using my own layouts for the ExpandableList, and the group and child layouts. The contents of the database are being displayed properly in the display activity, and the groups collapse and expand fine. However, if I expand a group, and click on a child to select it, I get the following stack dump:
CODE:.......
My SimpleCursorTreeAdapter:
CODE:......................
I've yet to be able to set a breakpoint in my code that is reached before the IllegalStateException gets thrown. Looks to me that I'm doing what the examples do, but apparently there is something I'm missing.

i've got this simple layout in a file derived from Activity
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="10dip" > <ImageView android:id="@+id/photo" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </ScrollView>
i'd like to change the imageview contents dynamically. which method do i need to overload - again this class is derived from Activity.

I am running into a very weird thing. I have an ImageView, and when I call setImageURI with an image, it seems to change the size of the image view.
CODE:..............
The default image is 195 x 195, i am trying to set the image to be 200 x 200, after setting the image using setImageURI, i get the dimensions back and it says it's 48 x 48.
I have tried a bunch of different android:scaleType parameters, and I couldn't find anything that worked.
I also tried explicitly setting the size (layout_width="200px") and it seems to work.

Over the past few days I have been trying to implement custom widget functionality. In this case I have instantiated a RemoteView containing some TextViews and an ImageView in one application's BroadcastReceiver. The BroadcastReceiver receives the intent signaling it to send the RemoteView to the calling application. When the calling application receives this RemoteView it uses apply to inflate the view properly and display it on the screen.
The problem occurs when the activity changes, the inflated RemoteView occasionally has information disappear. One time the image even changed into another image from a drawable located in the BroadcastReceiver's application. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and/or have a solution?
I have looked at posts concerning ImageViews in widget use and orientation changes. Is this problem related? I am not entirely sure. I am currently running Android 1.5 SDK and am not able to upgrade for this side project of mine.

Creating a game in Android using multiple Buttons to display an image from the drawable folder. I want to change the button to a different image after the button has been clicked on.
Here is the button code:
CODE:.............
I can't find anything about how to change the actual image of the button. You can change the color of the button by using the following code in the java file: b36.setBackgroundColor(0xAA00AA00);

I am having an EditText. If i specify image for the EditText in the layout XML file (android:back ground) it looks different and looks different when i specify it at runtime EditText et = (EditText)find ViewById (R.drawable .et1) ; et.setBackgroundDrawable (Main.themes.getDrawable (EDRAWABLES.EditText BackgroundImage )); Both codes point to the same image. When i specify the image at runtime , the EditText leaves a margin at the top and bottom of the cursor in the edittext which does not happen when i do it in XML. I have attached the screenshots of both images. Top image is the one drawn from XML and bottom one is given at runtime. I am not getting the difference ? Actually i am facing similar problems with other Widgets too if i change the logic of specifying the drawable at runtime and not at compile time.. Is this the default SDK behaviour? You know when you call someone who doesn't have a photo linked to their contact it displays the green android guy. Well I really like what forum member sprint fun did with his avatar by making it into a OSU buckeye. I would much rather see that image rather then the green default android guy. Sprint fun has already said I could use the image, but I have no idea how or if its possible to set it as the default image for callers with no photo linked to their account.

I use http://stackoverflow.com/questions/541966/android-how-do-i-do-a-lazy-load-of-images-in-listview/3068012#3068012 to load images in a ListView and a GridView. It works but the images are loaded form bpttom to top. How to fix that?
Bonus Question: Can I use a loading animation in a image view while the real image is loaded? Right now it's just a default image.

My company's web based time card system requires the use of the arrow keys to move from cell to cell. (I can't just tap on the desired cell, because they're frequently hidden until I can arrow over to them.)
Using an EVO with the standard browser, is there a way to simulate the arrow keys on the desktop? With a 3rd party browser?

I'd like to show a large green arrow in front of all other views when the user clicks a button. The arrow should fade in, stay there for 1-2 seconds and fade out again. How would I go about programming this? I've looked at the animation examples but would like to confirm the way forward before I dive into programming something that won't work :-):
Draw the arrow-image as a bitmap, immediately make it invisible Fade it in ("alpha"-change animation)
Let it stay for 2 seconds Fade it out (again, "alpha"-change animation)
Is this correct, or would you suggest something else?

The preference activity gets inflated by invoking
addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences);
and here are the preferences.xml code...
everything looks okay, but EditTextPreference entries (2 and 3) have arrow-down icons next to them, just like ListPreference (1) does. Why is it so and how can I remove these icons as they look irrelevant?
