I would like to have an EditText with one modification: on the right (still inside the EditText) there is an arrow pointing downwards, that I can set OnClickListener to. So when user clicks on the arrow it displays a menu. What is the best way to do this?

Is it possible to create a custom dictionary for an edittext? In other words, can I create a custom list and have the edittext only suggest names from that list? I don't need it popping up useless word suggestions when the user is inputting specific names of people.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have placed an icon on the status bar. I would like to run a method of another class whenever the user selects that icon. I've seen similar functionality used in volume icons that sit on the status bar that allow a user to raise or lower the volume when the icon is clicked. However, these icons are on the right side of the status bar, and from what I've seen, I'm not allowed to put an icon there. I don't know if that kind of functionality is available to left side icons. So basically, I'm looking for how to run a function when a status bar icon is clicked. I don't want to open an activity, I just want to run a function.

I use my phone in my left hand so it would be much more handy to use the phone if I could change the direction of the arrow. Currently the arrow goes from bottom left side of screen to the middle right side and this causes me to have to use both hands to use the phone even to do the simplest of tasks.
I want to be able to have the unlock arrow go from the bottom right side of the screen to the middle left side. This option would be a more normal flowing one handed function for me.
Is there an option for this? I have tried to find it and can not see it anywhere. I sure hope this can be changed because this is becoming very anoying. I like the swoop idea and think it could be handy and better than my old iPhone option but I need the direction change.
I've got a few questions about edittext..
I'm trying to create a login screen on Android. I'm taking in a username and a password and then sending the results to another method. I've just got a few questions about it...
1) If I have two edittext's and the user enters values in both and then hits a "login" button, I want the button to take the values that were entered in the 2 edittext boxes, convert and save them to a string and then pass them to a function. I'm unsure how I'd construct this button. The problem I'm having is making it a string I'm currently doing this.. String user = edittext.getText();
But that doesn't seem to work. Also I'm unsure what way Android saves Edittext inputs.. Will it just automatically save it to the string once the user is no longer working out of the box? e.g will...

I want to show the softkeyboard, but it does not work. Here is my code...
When i touch the screen, the softkeyboard does not appear, but the alertDialog "edit text" appears, which appears on normal edittexts when you long touch them.

I created a regular *.jar file but when I tried to create/style my views dynamically most of the properties do not work. Even referencing simple styles from the android.jar file such as android.attr.listSeparatorTextViewStyle did not work.
I created an android project without any Activity, having its own resource files and then referenced this project from another Android project to use in its build path. Everything seems to work fine but the emulator keeps crashing (with no meaningful error message in the LogCat) when I try to run the project.
