Android :: Changing Typeface Of Android Search UI?
Sep 5, 2010
Currently I am using some unicode characters which needs a unicode font to be used for displaying search text in search ui provided by Android. I am using OnSearchRequested and start Search API. I want to set typeface to search control. Is that possible? Any other alternative like to perform search actions using own UI?

Currently using Dolphin HD on my desire. When using the soft search button is there anyway of changing it to search via Google.co.UK and not Google.com. Its really annoying when your search results are all for American sites. The stock desire browser uses co.UK but I much prefer Dolphin HD.

I Just installed the Dolphin browser instead of Steel as I was using before. So uninstalled Steel, but have a little problem now. When I press the search button on my home screen and search for anything, it opens the default browser and searches, and not Dolphin. How do I change this? Thought it would ask for which app it needed to execute the order with, as it did at other places it would go online, but not here. Has been in the manage applications and delete the default browser to be default, and inside settings in the dolphin browser and the check it to be default, but it does not work.

I want to make a content provider for font file. But I can not find any way to return a Typeface from Cursor. According to SDK reference, Matrix Cursor sounds like a solution, but it doesn't support any object except String,Long,Double,Short,Flow.

I want to apply a non-native font to widgets in my app. This is working fine for TextViews and Buttons, which have a set Typeface method. The code below works just great for my button:
Java: Typeface face = Typeface.gratefullest(getAssets(), "fonts/ my_font.ttf"); play Button = (Button) findViewById(R.id.play_button); play Button.set Typeface(face);
But I just can't seem to figure out how to apply the font to a Spinner.

The class Typeface has a couple of static factory methods which take different inputs. However, Input streams are not among themn (there is a way to load a file though). Is there a way around this apart from copying the font to a temporary file?

I've created a custom Typeface by adding a TTY file to the assets folder, and I use the set Typeface method to apply this font to each of the text views, and everything works great. The only problem I have, is that I write a lot of code lines in order to apply this font to all text views. Is there a way to make this font the default font in my project, or to apply it to all text views at once?

I've got 2 problems with the Typeface.create(...) method :
- the javadoc for this methods say : "Create a typeface object given a family name, and option style information. If null is passed for the name, then the default font will be chosen". However if I use for example : Typeface.create(null, Typeface.ITALIC), it does not compile, with the following error : "The method create(String, int) is ambiguous for the type Typeface". This is because there is 2 different methods : create(String, int) and create(Typeface, int). I guess there is a problem with the API here :(
- italic does not work with sans serif. For example if I use Typeface.create(Typeface.SANS_SERIF, Typeface.ITALIC), the text will not be in italic. Bold works fine. Serif works fine with both bold and italic.

The default marquee scroll (i.e., three scrolls of text when list item is selected) in my application's List View works when the typeface is set to Typeface.NORMAL but not when set to Typeface.ITALIC. Is the marquee scroll implemented for TextViews with the ITALIC typeface?

I try to display italic text in a text view. I use the method TypeFace.defaultFromstyle(TypeFace.ITALIC) but it doesn't work, the style of the text is not set to italic. If i call the get Style() method on the return of defaultFromstyle() it returns 0.

I would like to create a search in my app which acts like the map search in the Google Maps app. I have creates an an auto complete text view which updates dynamically based on the results of the Geocoder.GetLocationByName() Method. However the results retrieved from this function are really bad and not at all consistent with the text I pass to it. Is there a better method of doing this to achieve accurate results?

Anyone know of a good App that will let you change the style/color of the typeface on the X8? Wife has an X8, but is having problems reading the white text against the wallpaper pic. Tried various pics for wallpaper, but she is looking for a black type face to make things easier. Can't seem to change the color or style through settings, or is she missing something?

I want to use a custom font for my android application which I am creating. I can individually change the typeface of each object from Code, but I have hundreds of them. So, Is there a way to do this from the XML? [Setting a custom typeface] Is there a way to do it from code in one place, to say that the whole application and all the components should use the custom typeface instead of the default one?

When implementing search in my application, I'm including some search context info depending on the activity where search is invoked. In one of those, I'd like to implement type-to-search as well, but the standard method of adding search context info doesn't work in that case... the onSearchRequested() method in the activity is never called. Is there any way to include search context info in a type-to-search invocation, or am I stuck with only the Search key and menu option?

I wanted to put this in the droid X section because the default way of searching contacts is horrible. I installed gesture search last night and now one of my few gripes with the phone is solved. I hated having to having to hold the options button to bring up a keyboard and then having to clear my last entry to start another search.

I'm wanting an app that lets me create profiles and toggle them on and off from my home screen. So far, I've found a couple of apps that seem to do this. Primarily what I want to do is to be able to get in my car, toggle a widget on my phone screen and turn on GPS, Blue tooth and Auto brightness. My phone is plugged in in my car so none of these settings matter to me that they drain the battery and I use the phone as a GPS unit in my car. When I get out of my car, I want to be able to toggle to one of two other profiles. One would turn GPS and Auto Brightness off and leave BT on and the other would turn all three off. (When I'm at my office I don't use my BT headset as the handset is sitting right at my desk.) Secondarily, I want to be able to have scenes on my phone change automatically. I've got one that I use for work and another that I use for home. It would be great if I could have it set up so that the work scene was on from 8-5, M-F and then it flipped to the home scene at all other times unless I manually changed it. It doesn't look like Setting Profiles supports this, but I'm wondering if Locale does. If neither app supports this, it's not a huge deal.

My users can change the Locale within the app (they may want to keep their phone settings in English but read the content of my app in French, Dutch or any other language ...)
Why is this working perfectly fine in 1.5/1.6 but NOT in 2.0 anymore?
CODE:..........
The problem is that the MENU "shrinks" more and more everytime the user is going through the lines of code above ...
This is the Menu that gets shrunk:
CODE:.........
What should I do in API Level 5 to make this work again ?
HERE IS THE FULL CODE IF YOU WANT TO TEST THIS :
CODE:..............
AND HERE IS THE MANIFEST :
CODE:..........
THIS IS WHAT I FOUND :
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="5" />
=> IT WORKS JUST FINE ...
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" />
=> Menu shrinks every time you change the locale!
As I want to keep my application accessible for users on 1.5.
