View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been reading a lot to being able to remote control my Linux running computers at home. I have a 60gig music collection and want to be able to play it smoothly on any of the computers or my Android. Of course I want to remote control the computers since most of them are headless (=without monitors) and until now I've remote desktop-ed them from the laptop. Oh and all the computers are Ubuntu installed. It turns out there are many different media players, even allowing DAAP or UDNP setup so that the media library is shared over my LAN, even to the Internet (subsonic). The best application I've found are Spottily and Groove shark, they're a beauty to use since the music is always available - but unfortunately they don't allow for any kind of remote control. So I thought; what if I could use some of the great media players for Android but just change the audio device they're playing on. Since Lucid Lynx actually brought an updated version of Pulse audio (the default audio device) which allows you to play music onto another computer on the network!

how google voice application is taking control of the default phone native dialer? Is it using the public android API? I saw how google voice display a bubble at top and mask the dialed out number in the native dialer. We need to do something like this in our application but I can't find nothing about how to do it. I think its still work in progress but I find it very useful, especially when replying to texts when at the computer.
I use a PC at work all day but quite often want to use GTalk to chat to people. Unfortunately my company blocks it so I can't use a browser to chat but obviously I can through my phone.
I used to have an HTC Desire that was rooted so that allowed me to use droidvnc to connect to my phone from my PC via vncviewer using USB(There's no wifi here).It then meant I could type on my keyboard which makes things a whole lot easier when you're in the middle of something.
Basically now I've gone to an HTC One X I'm just wondering whether there's any app or anything that would let me do the same thing but without rooting the device as I don't want to invalidate any warranties just yet.
I'm really after a bit of software to let me remote control my phone via USB for the purpose of using GTalk.
Is there an app that allows someone from a pc to connect to an android device and control it like team viewer does on pc's?

Ok after a few deals where things seemed a little amiss with stuff happening on their own on my Moto Droid I have found a good example and wonder what other people think about this question.Not to long ago I read somewhere about confirmation that Google can go into your phone and wipe apps and make changes on the fly with push technology and no notice. How true is this and can Devs do the same thing? About a month ago a program that I used regularly after trying to start it I get a msg that the program can not be found.I went to the Market download and it was shown that it was installed but that there was an Update for it. Updated and everything was fine. (Did the Dev's for that app do a push to inactivate the app because the update was critical and had to be installed?)Now just last week I updated the Application Where and after the update when trying to run it from a home screen or from the App menu it would say program not found. I had to actually go to Market--Downloads hit Where and then when the app screen popped up with the Open and Uninstall button at the bottom use the open button to get it to run.I proceeded to uninstall the program and reinstall and still same problem.I wrote Where and told them of my problem on Friday.Yesterday Tuesday I got a response.They changed their name from Where to WHERE and it was causing problems and that I should delete any homepage icons and use the menu Icon.I then went to the menu icon hit it and the program ran. The thing is there was no updates. I did a uninstall/install on the program. tried to run the program from the menu Icon and no success Now after an email from WHERE I go to the icon on the menu screen and it works.

I'm coming from a palm treo to the htc hero, and on the treo I had a program named pdareach that enabled me to have a image of my phone on my monitor, that I could control from my desktop. the main advantage was being able to text via my keyboard and not having to press the keys on the cell. Is there a software out there for the hero that is comparable? I've contacted junefabrics and they don't make pdareach for android phones. So am I the only lazy one out there? I don't mind paying for the app if it works, and preferably a program that works without rooting my phone, I'm still a novice here.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have hearing aids and a bluetooth device called an ICOM that connects my phone to my hearing aids. I wear it around my neck and the wire around my neck connects to the hearing aids It is great for my end of the conversation, I actually hear the phone inside my ears! The problem I am having is the ICOM output is too loud or the microphone is too sensitive. People talking to me say they hear a lot of background noise. If I have the TV on it overwhelms the conversation. The same with wind noise in the car! Is there any way to turn down the incoming bluetooth audio? I looked for an app that would do this but did not find anything! The ICOM is made by Phonak and they tell me there is no way to turn down the audio sensitivity or the audio from the little box to my telephone!

Mine always has a lot of stuff running that I don't use (e.g. Corporate Calendar and Voice Dialing) and I would like to keep these apps from starting at all. Even when I kill them with the task killer they automatically open back up at some point. I'm just concerned about battery usage.

I'm sure its been discussed and all but I think that the voice recognition software is capable of being much more advanced.There should be a way to just give your phone a voice command without having to manually open an app. It probably would have to be running in the background the whole time, analyzing everything it hears, so it may use a lot of battery and cpu.therefore it may be easier to have a starter phrase to tell it to listen more carefully. for example: say the said app is running in the background,listening to every noise, but it wouldn't begin to really analyize until you say something like; "hey, phone!" or "yo, droid!" (or whatever tag phrase). I don't know what would have to go into an app like that for it to work but hey, if an app like that was designed, then I think the android would be a really smart smartphone. In the end thanks for all the awesome apps you guys are already developing. be sure to tell me when someone develops something like that though.

In the Android SDK reference, under android.telephony.TelephonyManager, there doesn't seem to be anything to control the network type.
What APIs does this setting actually call?
I use "Palm VNC" to control my computers via my Palm TX; this is most useful for one particular pc as I can use the Palm's touch screen to activate commands rather than the mouse on the pc. A quick point with a finger and the command fires rather than picking up the mouse, moving to the required spot on the screen then clicking. Even more useful when I am at the other end of the room and need to fire the command. I see that there are many VNC apps for Android/Desire. What is the forum's experience of the various VNC apps?
