Android :: Photo Hash Changes After Upload
Aug 30, 2009I've written an app that syncs social network photos with your phone's contact photos. It works great. However, I have an option that lets the user skip any contacts that already have a photo added. This works great until the phone (I assume) syncs up the photo from the social network with Google Contacts.
I use a hash of the pic to track if the picture is one from my sync app or one that the user has added themselves. So, if Google Contacts changes the format of the pic, then the hash will change and my method is no good!

May 5, 2010I'm got a custom webview setup which is working pretty well, but I'd like to be able to either:
1, change the url hash without the webview reloading the page (it would lose the state of my js app)
2, call some js that sits within my web page from within android. I can't change any JS within the site, unfortunately, so can't custom write any js to put on the site especially for the job, the only stuff I have control over is the Android app.
Can anyone think of a way of doing either of these?

Feb 17, 2010I usually view email with attachments from my pc because I usually lack the time to download the attachment. Today, I had some spare time so I tried to download an attachment. It downloaded fine but when I went to view it, I received a pop-up box to save it to the sd card. After pressing ok, I was told the save was successful but now I can't find it. Aside from pics and videos, how do I access other folders with saved data?

I have added my hotmail account under the mail app standard on the sonyericsson x10, and the mail is comming through, but when I delete it on the web or laptop it does not delete it on phone neither does it update that I have read the email. May 18, 2010I need to calculate a rotation vector out of the data i get from Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION. The sensor data is defined like this: the values have to be recalculated to become a correct 3d position: values[0]: Azimuth, angle between the magnetic north direction and the Y axis, around the Z axis (0 to 359). 0=North, 90=East, 180=South, 270=West values[1]: Pitch, rotation around X axis (-180 to 180), with positive values when the z-axis moves toward the y-axis. values[2]: Roll, rotation around Y axis (-90 to 90), with positive values when the x-axis moves away from the z-axis need all three values like the Z axis value (from 0 to 360 degree). I tried a lot but cant figure out how to do this :/ So i bet there is a simple solution how to recall the values of sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION to make them a 3d rotation vector, but i just dont know how to do it. Sep 18, 2010In my app I am displaying a table where the individual cells are editable text fields (i.e. EditText objects). I am currently struggling calculating appropriate widths for these.
If I set the width to be as many "Ems" as the displayed text has characters, my fields are much to wide by about a factor of 2 and the table looks ugly and wastes lots of precious screen space. Setting the width in "Ems" is essentially like assuming the worst case, i.e. the width of a string under the assumption that it contains only the broadest characters in a font, usually 'M' (hence the name of the method), 'm', 'W', or '_'). But on average strings contain narrower characters and so most of these fields are half empty and much too wide for their actual content. I am thus desperately seeking a way to calculate a better fitting width, not that worst case width.
The "normal" way to do this in Java (in AWT or Swing at least) is to asks a widget's current Font (actually a Font's FontMetrics), to calculate and return the width that will be necessary to display a given string in pixels. But how does one obtain a TextView's Font? I haven't found any method to obtain a (Text)View's font and/or calculate a more appropriate width given the actual content of a cell's text string. How does one do that in Android?
