Astrid is great! Easy to use. Small widget that displays tasks. Simple. Many options. but... When i reboot the Hero, it seems that the Astrid widget takes almost FOREVER! and i really do mean hours to load.

When using position based apps on my new Desire (Android 2.1) I can't help but notice that finding the location always takes forever (>1 minute after switching GPS on).My old HTC HD (Windows Mobile 6.1) was much quicker in providing a location after switching on GPS. The trick was, that the HTC HD had a pre-installed application "QuickGPS" that regularly downloaded some data that apparently helped in locating the satellites and/or calculating the position. On my old device I thus had a valid position typically in less than 10 seconds after switching GPS on.I haven't found any similar utility for Android and I don't want to have GPS active all the time for battery reasons. Are there any similar tools or other "tricks" that can help the GPS subsystem to provide the location quicker?

I just can't seem to part with it though because I do like it.I remember when I first got the phone, it would ring about 5 times on the callers end before it rang on mine. I found some number that I called to fix that.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have 2.1 OTA, but I noticed camera lag with 1.5 as well. I'm guessing everyone else has this problem too. Is there any fix anyone has found? I've made sure not a lot of apps are running when i go use the camera app, but it still takes 4 seconds or so for the camera to take a picture after I press the trackball.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a new comer, previous owner of the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. I acquired an ADP1 through our research group at school since we were developing an application for Android (WifiMapper, helps you remember APs you've connected to by mapping them). Regardless, my iPhone 3GS from near battery death to full charge took maybe an hour and a half in USB, let alone a wall charger pushing a guaranteed hour and a half. However, I've found that my ADP1 takes at LEAST 6 hours to charge from around 5% charge. That seems like a long time to me... for instance, today it was at 12%, and I charged it for 3 and a half hours and it only went up to 52%.
View 9 Replies View RelatedVerizon just switched me this week to a refurb Ally from the Eris (after 4 defective handsets). It takes between 6-8 hours to charge the battery and then with light use it runs back down in 3 hours (by light use, maybe 2 short calls and 4-6 texts). I have checked and it is NOT the 50% signal bug, and I have turned off everything that could be draining the batter that fast. Is this a normal charge time for this device?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy phone reads: 5h 32m 55 s since unplugged. And its at 5% now. Isn't this abnormally low? I used it somewhat frequently but not all the time or heavily by anymeans. Also, GPS and wifi and bluetooth were all off using the android power control widget. My battery usage shows: 42% android system, 25% camera (i took like 10 pics, nothing crazy), 13% cell standby, 12% display, 6% phone idle, 2% robo defense. This is after charging overnight to 100% And I've had the phone since thursday, so its like the 4th charge cycle. Is my battery defective? I read the other threads about low battery life but this seems BEYOND low, this seems defective.

The initial list of message threads loads fine, but when I select one I get "loading" for a very long time. This has never happened to me before, and I have been running 2.1 since it was released. I'm in Baltimore and 4g is very much up and running. Not ranting, its just that 4g was one of sprints selling points, jus think it could be a bit better.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have galaxo 1.6.3.1. after playing around with the launcher (replaced AdvancedLauncher with Helix for donut) i now experience some troubles with the dialer - its extremely slow: when i press the dial button i takes about 5 seconds to load. if i click the Contacts tab it takes around 3-5 seconds.
I tried clearing the dial application's data (thus removing all my contacts and my call log), but its still slow.
Offcourse there's always the solution of reapplying update.zip but i want to avoid it
My email takes ten minutes to load and another ten minutes to delete! The thing seems to freeze but then finally finishes. Please tell me this isn't normal... I was using a blackberry which had instant email.

When I try to watch a clip on YouTube it takes ages to load.9/10 times it does not play.WHY? Also I wanted to see a clip on BBC Sport page. Guess what it�s not supported. I can't even go onto my local radio station website and listen live.Whats the point in this phone.

Just got the phone and loving it so far but im having major issue's with You Tube, Most video's take about 5 mins to load in low quality and in high quality it can take upto 30 mins or more which of course by that time the phone locks and the video has to restart again.
Any suggestions as to why it takes so long? Also is there a setting for video's to automatically start in high quality? And for the phone not to lock?
I am writing my first application and am trying to get my widget to load a different image when it is added to the home screen based on the state of the notification volume.It is detecting the notification state fine and the proper Toast messages appear when I add the widget, but I'm not getting any icon.I just get an empty button.I'm using the same code to change the icon in my onReceive() method to do other things and that works fine.Is this the proper way to accomplish that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed DamageControl v2.08.1 on my cdma Hero the calendar and date are 24 hours off! Time is correct but it's the next day. When I did a back up of this install it even used the wrong date on the backup. I have a bunch of small issues that I think with patience I may be able to work around but this clock/date thing has me puzzled. Also has anyone figured out how to put a custom city in for the weather widget and not one of the ones listed but for example a small town (any town) some where in the USA? I could do this on my 1.5 but this weather widget acts like the clock and you can only use their listed cities.

I'd like to report a bug we just found while writing a widget.
Summary: There is a widget installed, that defines a configuration activity. If the user changes the orientation while they are in the configuration activity, and they finish that activity in a different orientation that they started, the widget does NOT appear in the home screen after the configuration is done.
How to reproduce: have a minimal widget, with a configuration activity that contains a button, which correctly updates the App Widget when it is clicked (as explained in http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/appwidgets/index.html#Confi...). Add a new instance of the widget, so the config screen shows up. Change the orientation once. Click on the button. Your widget does not appear in the home screen. (Ouch.)
If this has already been reported, or if there's a better way to submit a bug report.
Do those numbers seem normal to the rest of you? Right now if I am using my phone for browsing, video, etc. it will run the battery from full charge to dead in just under 4 hours. If I just leave the phone turned on but with no apps running (standby) it runs out of power in roughly 48 hours. Is this the battery life I should expect from this phone?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWARNING: Back up your Astrid 2 before doing the Astrid 3 upgrade!I just updated to Astrid 3.0 ("Update Available"). Silly me, I didn't read the notes other than to see that Astrid 3 was "all new". My tasks vaporized! The I tried to "restore" and it said I had to buy an add-on pack to do that. No indication of whether the restore in V3 is compatible with saved tasklists from V2. The experience left me cold. I uninstalled Astrid 3 and reverted to V2 via the link http://bit.ly/oldastrid. Then I restored from the saved list on my SD card from the scheduled backup that Astrid did last night. I still lost some tasks I entered today.

I seem to be having issues with the widget, it does not load and says loading. I have uninstalled the weather bug app wondering if because it was stuck loading or said failed to load if that was beating my battery.

I am adding an option to my app (Executive Assistant) to integrate with the Astrid TODO list app. Astrid defines the permissions necessary for doing this. My app uses those permissions. Everything works fine if Astrid is installed before my app. However, many users will use my app first, then decide to use Astrid later (e.g., in at least some cases, because its now supported by my app). However, in this case, I will get a SecurityException if I try to read from the Astrid ContentProvider since that permission didn't exist when my app was installed.
One easy solution would be to simply uninstall, then re-install my app after Astrid has been installed. However, this would require the user to reconfigure my app, which would understandably be quite annoying for the user. (1) is there any way for my app to "re-request" the permission after Astrid has been installed? And, (2) if not, is there any easy way to save & restore my applications data (database & shared preferences) between an uninstall/reinstall so that the user does not have to reconfigure?
So I updated Astrid from version 2 to 3 and realize it was a big mistake. They took away a bunch of options and now require a RTM account. Is there any way to rollback an app? I searched around and can't find the old version anywhere. On a side note I have noticed a very disheartening trend for Android software developers. They release an app and market it as free. They wait until enough people download it and build a strong user base. Then "update" the software which removes features unless you pay for the full version. This is just poor PR in my opinion.
